===========================================================

INSTALLING:

1. Insert the installation diskette into a selected
   floppy diskette drive.
2. Under Windows Program Manager, select FILE:RUN
3. At the prompt for file name, enter {drive}:SETUP,
where {drive} is the selected floppy diskette drive.

If the installation aborts for any reason, delete the
partially installed files from the hard disk, exit
Windows and restart Windows before attempting to
reinstall.

ENTERING the SERIAL NUMBER:
When prompted for the last 11 characters of the serial
number, key in the following:

If your serial number is: VV-W20-1234567

   you would key in: W20-1234567

(the hyphen [-] is a character; it counts, key it in.)

UPGRADING A PRIOR VERSION:
At the "Install to" prompt, enter the drive/directory
where Value Vision is currently installed. The data
files will be converted to the new version.

NORTON AND OTHER DESKTOP MANAGERS INSTALL NOTES:
If you are using Norton Desktop for Windows (NDW), or
some other desktop manager, the Value Vision group and
icons may not be installed as expected. Consult your
desktop manager documentation to set up a group and
program icons if you encounter problems. The icons
set up by Value Vision are VV.EXE, VVFM.EXE, VVHELP.HLP
and README.TXT, all located in the installed directory.

BITMAP ERROR NOTES:
If you run with a display utilizing more than 256 colors,
you may get a bitmap error message when you add item
selections. This may be corrected by changing the video
display to the standard Windows VGA driver using the
Windows Setup icon in the Main group of Program Manager.
Bitmaps will be re-built when you bring up Value Vision.

The bitmap error will also occur if you run out of file
space on the hard disk or if you have less than 2000KB
memory available when you start Value Vision (see
Program Manager Help menu "about Program Manager").

DIAMOND DISPLAY DRIVER NOTES:
If you run with the Diamond Stealth VRAM card, you MUST
change the Windows display driver to VGA. If you do not,
you will get a general protection fault during
installation, and your machine will likely hang. After
installation, you may change back to the Diamond driver.
The Viper driver appears to be okay as long as no more than
256 colors are displayed.

WINSPEED DRIVER NOTES:
WinSpeed driver causes problems similar to the Diamond
driver. See above for necessary action.

CIRRUS LOGIC DRIVER NOTES:
Certain video drivers supporting the Cirrus Logic display
board cause the system to freeze when the picture of the
house appears during setup. Change to VGA, run setup, then
change back to the original driver.

BACKING UP THE VALUE VISION INSTALLATION DISKETTE:

Make a backup copy of the installation diskette. Use the
DOS DISKCOPY command or select DISK:COPY DISK in File
Manager. Both methods copy the image of the diskette which
includes all directories and files. If you copy from one
disk size to another (e.g. from 3.5 to 5.25), be certain to
create the BIN, ITEMS and ROOMS subdirectories before
copying files. The use of some method other than DISKCOPY
will take MUCH more time.

Keep this copy (or the original) OFFSITE, so that you can
restore the system in case you lose the computer or the
hard drive.

It is suggested that you keep this diskette in the same
location as the ARCHIVE data diskette produced by Value
Vision.

HINTS AND TIPS

1. You may experience slow progress during the installation
process. This is frequently caused by failure to
utilize a disk caching program such as Windows'
SMARTDRIVE. Refer to the Windows User's Guide for more
information on SMARTDRIVE. To determine how much cache
is running on you system, select the DOS prompt icon in
the MAIN group of Program Manager. At the prompt type
SMARTDRV and hit the enter key. The size while running
Windows should be at least 512K when installing, and
   256K when running Value Vision.

2. When placing items into your dwelling, you will likely
have an item for which there is no selection installed
in Value Vision. Select the NEW button in the Item
Selections window to create a custom item. This new
selection will not have a unique icon. However, you may
"borrow" one of Value Vision's icons to use; select
FILE:ITEM SELECTIONS from the Value Vision window to
modify the icon associated with the new selection.

3. A sheet may be printed with Value Vision package to
assist in taking inventory. Print as many copies of
this sheet as necessary, by selecting
PRINT:INVENTORY FORM from the Value Vision window.

4. When you are ready to print reports, try selecting a
font other than the Windows default font for your
installed printer. Many find that the ARIAL font
(included in many Windows 3.1 drivers) is preferable to
   the default.

5. You may encounter problems when you produce an ARCHIVE
diskette when exiting Value Vision. Some DOS and
Windows TSR (terminate and stay resident) programs
cause the system to lock up when the ARCHIVE function is
invoked. You can create an archive diskette manually
from the DOS prompt. For example, if Value Vision is
installed to C:\VPIM, at the DOS prompt enter CD\VPIM,
then enter ARCHIVE A: (or B:).

To restore your data using the ARCHIVE diskette, place
the diskette into the diskette drive, change to the
drive, then enter RESTORE -> the format for the restore
   command will be displayed.
