Installing and Running CA-Realia II Workbench under WIN-OS/2

This file describes how to install the Workbench to run in a WIN-OS/2 session
under OS/2. It also describes how to operate the Workbench under WIN-OS/2.

INSTALLING
Perform the following steps to install the Workbench under OS/2:

   1. Prepare your OS/2 system for the Workbench.

   2. Install the Workbench files from the product diskettes. Use the same
       diskettes.

   3. Create a folder for the Workbench and create program icons for
       the Workbench and Setup programs.

Note: In the instructions that follow, C:\REAL2 is used as the
drive and directory where the Workbench is installed and
C:\OS2 for the OS/2 directory. If you install the Workbench or
OS/2 in a different drive or directory, substitute the correct
drive and path.

Step 1 - Prepare Your OS/2 System

   1. Open the OS/2 System folder.

   2. Open the Command Prompts folder.

   3. Create a COPY of your WIN-OS/2 Full Screen object on your
desktop and rename it to WIN-OS/2 386 Enh.

  4. Open the Settings for the WIN-OS/2 386 Enh object
and click on the Session tab. Click on the WIN-OS/2
settings button and set WIN_RUN_MODE to 3.1 Enhanced
Compatibility. Click on Save and close the Settings.

  5. Double-click on the WIN-OS/2 386 Enh icon.

  6. Open the Control Panel located in the WIN-OS/2 Main
program group of the Program Manager.

  7. Open Fonts and ensure that Courier (VGA res) and MS San Serif fonts
(VGA res) are installed. If not, add them from the C:\OS2\MDOS\WINOS2\SYSTEM directory.

  9. Close the Control Panel.

Step 2 - Install the Workbench

  1. Insert the first installation disk into the floppy drive,
select File Run from the Program Manager menu and type A:INSTALL
      or B:INSTALL.

  2. When asked to select the components you want to install,
      include the WIN-OS/2 Drivers.

  3. Proceed with the installation until the Installer is
complete and the Setup program has started.

  4. Click on the Toolkit button in the Setup window and
change the MNU file to OS2.MNU.

  5. After you have finished with the Setup program, close it
      and read the READMORE.WRI file.

  6. Close the Program Manager to exit the WIN-OS/2 session.

  7. Edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file in the root directory to
include the C:\REAL2 and the C:\REAL2\LCM\BIN directories in
your PATH statement. Also insert the lines:

	SET LCMADMIN=C:\REAL2\LCM\ADMIN

	C:\REAL2\LCM\BIN\LCMREAL

	C:\REAL2\LCM\BIN\LCMINIT 1111

at the end of your AUTOEXEC.BAT. The LCMINIT line should use
your four digit workstation ID. 1111 is sufficient for
     demonstration purposes.

  8. Edit your OS/2 CONFIG.SYS file and insert the following
      line:

	DEVICE=C:\OS2\MDOS\ANSI.SYS

This lets you use the sample program GLCLAIMS.

STARTING THE WORKBENCH

To start the Workbench, double click on the CA-Realia II
Workbench icon. Before you run any batch jobs or run the debugger,
you must also start the WIN-OS/2 Server. The WIN-OS/2 Server runs
in the background without a visible window, and continues to run after you
shutdown the Workbench. You can shutdown the WIN-OS/2 Server by bringing up
the Task List and closing or deleting the WIN-OS/2 Server from it.
You do not need to shutdown the WIN-OS/2 Server before you start the Workbench again.

EDITING REAL2.INI

If you need to edit your REAL2.INI file, you can find it in the
C:\OS2\MDOS\WINOS2 directory. This is the Windows directory for OS/2.

CHANGING FOCUS

Due to limitations in the WIN-OS/2 environment, the
Workbench debugger cannot notify the user of I/O events.
This means the Auto Focus User Window feature does not
work in OS/2 and the Workbench does not post messages in the Status
Bar to indicate that it is waiting for user input.

If you are debugging a program and suspect that the Workbench is
waiting for user input, press the F12 key to bring the debug
window into focus.

To use the Task List to change focus to the Debug Session Window
or the DOS Batch Session Window in focus, look for
CVRDDS.PIF and CVRDBS.PIF, respectively.
