Welcome to Novell & Banyan Directory Services

Directory Services provides you (the administrator) the ability
to add, modify, and delete names from the cc:Mail directory
automatically. This will remove most of the tedious tasks
involved in updating two separate directories when someone is
added or removed from the network.

In order to add or remove names from the cc:Mail directory, a
configuration file must be created to match your needs. This
configuration file can reside in the cc:Mail post office
directory or in the DS data directory with the '-d' option. The
default name of this configuration file is 'nds.cfg' and
'bds.cfg' for Novell and Banyan respectively.

Setting up the configuration file is the most important part of
Directory Services. Once a configuration file has been set up,
its contents should not be altered frequently. Changing your
configuration file can modify your cc:Mail database extensively.

We have provided the '-v' option on the command line so that you
may run a nondestructive DS session. All the additions,
modifications, and deletions will be logged in the DS log file
'log.dir'. This way you can view all of the changes before they
actually take place. The '-v' option can be useful when you are
not sure about the outcome of a real DS session.

NOTE: IF FOR ANY REASON YOU MUST DELETE THE CC:MAIL POST OFFICE
DATABASE FILES, PLEASE REMEMBER TO DELETE THE "SHADOW.DIR" FILE
IN THE DIRECTORY SERVICES DATA DIRECTORY.

In the cc:Mail Directory Services User's Manual errors occurred.
On page 20 in the section, "Backing Up Your Files," the
utility program "CCBACKUP" has been replaced by "CCSAVE."
Also on page 23 in the "GLOBALS: Section," under the subsection
"For Novell:" the line: "FULL (comment only)"
should read "NULL (Comment only)."

Thanks for using cc:Mail Directory Services.
