			    Install Hints

The Novell LAN WorkPlace for DOS we are supplying with this Beta is
intended for use only if you do not have a functioning WINSOCK
networking layer. The installation for this network package
is not complete. If you do install it, pay close attention to
section 1 in the following Troubleshooting information.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
			   TROUBLESHOOTING

If Quixote won't start or doesn't properly execute a remote application:

1.   If you're using Novell's LAN WorkPlace for DOS(tm):
     a. Check which version it is. If it is not v4.12 or later, it
	will most likely not work with Quixote. You can check the
	version of LWP for DOS you are running by typing TCPIP /v at
	the DOS prompt. TCPIP.EXE is usually located in the \NET\BIN
	directory.
     b. Make sure you have your PATH set to include \NET\BIN (or
	equivalent) directory. There are files in this directory that
	Quixote requires.
     c. Make sure you have these files in your \NET\BIN (or
	equivalent) directory:
	WINSOCK.DLL, WLIBSOCK.DLL, NOVASYNC.EXE, and VTCPIP.386
     d. Remove any duplicate files in other directories (especially
	the WINDOWS and WINDOWS\SYSTEM directories)
     e. Verify that your NET.CFG file is correct. If unsure,
	contact your system administrator for information regarding this file.
     f. Check the SYSTEM.INI file in your main Windows directory for
	the following line in the [386Enh] section:
		network=*vnetbios,vnetware.386,vipx.386,vtcpip.386
	   or
		device=vtcpip.386
	If you don't have a line that looks like this, add this line
	or modify your existing line so that it looks just like this.

2.   If you're using another TCP/IP stack:
     a. Make sure your TCP/IP stack's implementation of WINSOCK is
	version 1.1.
     b. Verify that the correct WINSOCK.DLL is in the path.
     c. Remove any duplicate WINSOCK.DLLs from other directories
	(especially the WINDOWS and WINDOWS\SYSTEM directories).
     d. Verify you have the other necessary files for your TCP/IP
	stack's implementation of WINSOCK (i.e. FTP's PCTCP(tm)
	requires WFTPLIB.DLL and VPCTCP.386)
     e. Check the SYSTEM.INI file in your main Windows directory and
	ensure that the proper drivers for your TCP/IP stack's
	implementation of WINSOCK are listed (i.e. FTP's PCTCP(tm)
	requires "device=vpctcp.386").

				ERRATA

Quixote X-Server for Windows Beta Documentation
  Section 2 (System Requirements)
