               GINA for Windows Version 1.1
              ------------------------------

***********************************************************************
** Before installing GINA, please read this document carefully. **
** It contains important information needed for proper setup. **
***********************************************************************

***********************************************************************
** General Notes: **
***********************************************************************

1. If you have been using any beta version of GINA:
Delete all files from the \GINA subdirectory (or whatever directory
in which you have installed GINA) except the directories that
contain your personal information. These directories are named the
same as any GINA userids that have been used on that copy of GINA.

2. This initial version of GINA is not Winsock 1.1 compliant;
Winsock compatibility is planned for future releases.

   --- HOWEVER: ---
The GINA for Windows product CAN be run concurrently with a Winsock
TCP/IP stack and packet drivers. The procedure for
setting this up is explained in WINSOCK.TXT file in the GINA Install
Disk 1 or in the GINA subdirectory.

3. For notes on using GINA with Novell / ODI and/or Winsock, read
   the file ODIPKT.TXT.

4. You must have a GINA account defined on a GINA server in order to
use this software. The vendor who sold you this product should also
make available GINA server accounts. If you have trouble obtaining a
GINA server account, you can contact GINA/CORE+ services by email at:
   gina@calstate.edu or by phoning: (310) 985-9632 or (800) 272-8743

5. Your system administrator should supply you with any of the following
   that apply to your situation:
   a. Host name
   b. Name server ip address
   c. Default gateway address
   d. Telephone number for dial-up.
   e. A dial up script that is compatible with the dial up/SLIP server
in use for your host site.

6. On disk2 is a file called MASTER.DO_. It is a Word for Windows file
and it is the user manual for GINA for Windows. See the next paragraph
for information on expanding the compressed file master.do_ into a
   decompressed file called master.doc.

***********************************************************************
** Expanding compressed files that are not decompressed during setup **
***********************************************************************
Most of the files on your GINA diskettes have names that end in the
underscore character, _. These files are stored in a compressed format.
Most but not all of these are automatically decompressed and copied to your
hard disk while running the setup program. If you need to decompress a
file, use the expand.exe program on disk1. Simply enter

expand <name of compressed file> <name of decompressed file>

Example: a:expand a:master.do_ c:\gina\master.doc

** Additional modem support and setup **
***********************************************************************
To set up GINA for a specific modem type, the initialization string can be
entered in the "Initialization String" field on the Configure Network panel,
or the folowing method can be used:

1) From the Windows Program Manager, select File / Run, and in the dialog
   box that is displayed, enter:

   C:\GINA\PHONE

and click OK. (C:\GINA might be something different if you specified a
non-default directory for the GINA install.)

2) The PHONE program is now running. Press the F4 key to bring up the
modem setup menu. Tab over to the list of modems, and use the cursor
(arrow) keys to select the modem that matches your model.

If there is not an exact match to your modem type, select one that is
most similar, or select the "Hayes" type, which works with many Hayes
   compatible modems.

3) Press "Enter" to accept the modem type you have selected.

4) Exit the PHONE program as follows:
While holding the "Alt" key down, and press the "X" key.

5) You should be able to start GINA and connect through your modem.
(you must have set up GINA to use a dial up connection)

** For advanced users: Troubleshooting dial up problems. **
***********************************************************************
If you are having difficulty in connecting, the following method
may help in troubleshooting:

1. When you press the "Connect" button to begin the dialing process, wait
a couple of seconds, or until you see lights flash on the modem
(if applicable). Then hold down the "Alt" key and press press the "Tab"
key until the mini window titled "Gina Dialing..." is displayed.

2. Release the "Alt" key; the PHONE program should now be displayed in the
currently active window. The messages displayed in the PHONE program
window give the status of the dial up attempt, which modem profile is
being used, and the handshaking that goes on with the terminal server.
