The current README file has three sections:
   I. Changes in Version 1.20 - Family and Medical Leave Act
II. Importing Policy Text into Your Word Processor
III. Addition to User Manual: Change Printer Port Function

 I. CHANGES IN VERSION 1.20 - FAMILY AND MEDICAL LEAVE ACT

Beginning on August 5, 1993, the federal Family and Medical Leave
Act (FMLA) covers all private sector employers that employ 50 or
more employees during 20 or more workweeks in the current or
preceding calendar year, and all public agencies.

     With Version 1.20, Policy 601 - MEDICAL LEAVE and Policy 602 -
FAMILY LEAVE were revised and updated to help you comply with
     the FMLA.

With this legislation, Policy 602 - FAMILY LEAVE becomes a
policy that is legally important. Although a "P" does not
appear on the Policy Selection Screen next to the policy title,
602 - FAMILY LEAVE should now be considered a "primary" policy, one
     commonly found in employee handbooks.

II. IMPORTING POLICY TEXT INTO YOUR WORD PROCESSOR

Text attributes such as bold type, underlining, and graphics cannot be
added with PWN's built-in EDITOR. Therefore, some users prefer to use
a word processing program outside of PWN to edit and/or print the
policies. However, PWN recommends that you make any text changes to
policies within the program before exporting them to a word processor
for final printing. By following this sequence, the text of policies
in the PWN files will be identical to those you have distributed. This
will make it easier to revise your handbook with future versions of PWN.

PWN has an EXPORT function that allows you to transfer copies of
policies you have previously created to any hard disk subdirectory
(or to a floppy disk), for subsequent importing into your word
processor. (See "Exporting to Your Word Processor" in Chapter 4 of the
     user manual for instructions.)

All files are saved within PWN as standard ASCII-character DOS
text files. (ASCII is an acronym for American Standard Code for
Information Interchange, a standard character format for exchanging
files between programs.) When policies are exported, however, the
text will be in modified ASCII format (generic word processing format).
Most word processing programs have the capability to import or retrieve
     ASCII files in this format.

Modified ASCII format means that carriage return/line feed codes (also
known as hard returns) are at the end of paragraphs only. (Standard
ASCII has these codes at the end of each line of text as well as at the
end of paragraphs.) As a result, the text will automatically word wrap
and be formatted to your word processor's margin settings when you
retrieve an exported file into your word processor.

The following section documents some of the functions within several
popular word processing programs to make it easier for you to import
and print the PWN policy files. It is not a complete reference - -
it is designed to get you started. Please consult your word processor's
user manual for detailed instructions for your program version.

Printing the final copy of the complete handbook is easiest if you
retrieve all the policies into one document of your word processor.
This allows you to place more than one policy on a page and to use
your word processor's capabilities such as page numbering, headers,
and footers. To export all policies to one file, in the EXPORT
function select the option ALL POLICIES TO ONE FILE NAMED
"POLICIES.AXP" (or "POLICIES.PXP"). Then, follow the instructions for
your word processor to retrieve the ASCII text file.
