1 ABOUT NETPORT MANAGER

This release of the NetportExpress EL print server includes
Netport Manager, a Windows application that you use to configure
the EL. You can also use Netport Manager to configure all other
models of Netport print servers, including the NetportExpress XL,
the Netport II, and the original Netport print server. You can
run Netport Manager with Windows 3.1.

This version of Netport Manager includes enhancements that provide
more robust operation and improved response time.

2 LANDESK ALERT MANAGMENT SYSTEM (AMS) SUPPORT

Support for the LANDesk Alert Management System. You can be notified and
respond to print server events such as "printer offline" from the LANDesk
   system.

"SnapIn" of the NetportExpress print server, so that you can "see" the
NetportExpress EL from the LANDesk system.

For AMS configuration instructions please see the Release Notes which can
be found by double clicking on the Readme icon in the Netport
   Manager Program group.

3 INSTALLING AND UPDATING EXISTING NEPORTEXPRESS EL PRINT SERVERS

To install Netport Manager:

   a) Log in as Supervisor.
   b) Start Windows.
   c) From the Program Manager File menu, choose Run.
   d) Browse to the directory where you uncompressed the software and select
      SETUP.EXE.
   e) Choose OK (and OK) and follow the instructions on your screen.

Netport Manager requires current drivers:

    - IPXODI.COM, version 2.12 or higher
    - LSL.COM, version 2.05 or higher
    - VLM.EXE, version 1.10 or higher
    - IPX.COM , version 3.10 or higher
    - NETX.EXE, 3.26 or higher
    - In the SYSTEM.INI file, in the [386Enh] section, the Network=line must
include VIPX.386. The VIPX.386 file should be dated 11/19/93 or newer.
    - If using VLMs ensure that the NETX.VLM is loaded
    - For Windows 3.1 ensure that the Windows setup has been set for the
appropriate network operating system. Depending on the Network operating
system you are running you will need to select either Novel NetWare,
Microsoft Lan Manager or IBM OS/2 Lan Server. This is done by double
clicking on the Windows Setup icon in the Main Program Group and selecting
      Options.

Windows for WorkGroups 3.11 works in a restricted configuration:
    - Netport Manager uses Novell's NWIPXSPX.DLL which conflicts with
Windows for WorkGroups 32 bit IPX interface. To remove the
conflicting IPX interface, run "Network Setup" from Program Manager.
Click on the Drivers button. Highlight the "IPX/SPX Compatible
Transport" line, then click on the Remove button. Click the OK
button and restart Windows. Removing this driver will not effect
the performance of the network unless you are using an internal router.
If you are using an internal router, the Windows for WorkGroups functions
will not be available across the router.

You can install Netport Manager on your local hard drive or on the Network.
    - If you specify a directory on your local drive, Setup copies the
Netport Manager files to that directory and copies the NetWare DLLs to
your Windows System directory. If the System directory contains older
NetWare DLLs, Setup makes a backup copy.
    - If you specify a network directory, Setup copies the Netport Manager
files and the NetWare DLLs to that directory.

After installing the Netport Manager files, Setup creates a new Windows
program group with the Netport Manager program icon. Double click on this
icon to start Netport Manager.

Hints on using Netport Manager
  a) Choose Contents on the Help menu and look at the Basics topics in Help for
an overview of using Netport Manager to set up an EL or other Netport
     print server.
  b) Read the message at the bottom of the Netport Manager window for
     information about each control.
  c) To display more information, press F1, or click on the Help button on the
Toolbar and then click on a control.

After you install Netport Manager, you should update the Flash memory
and the Application Code for your existing ELs. (To check an EL
version, use the Status option in Netport Manager. Update any ELs
with an RBL version number at 2.21 or lower.)

To update the RBL Flash memory of an EL to version V02.61a:

  a) Start Netport Manager and select an EL in the Netports list box.
  b) From the Utilities menu, choose Update.
  c) In the Open window, select the file NFLASH.NET from the Netport
      directory (default WNPMGR)
  d) Choose OK.

Note: This update could change the operation of the switches on the back
panel of any EL with an RBL version number lower than 2.11. If
the RBL version is lower than 2.11, change the switches on the
back panel of the EL for the NetWare frame type used on your
network. After you update the Flash memory, unplug the power
connector from the EL and use the following tables to set the
switches. Then reconnect the power. (The frame type settings
affect access to NetWare file servers and workstations and have
no affect on TCP/IP or AppleTalk printing.)

Upgrading the Application Code for an EL

The Application Code is stored in the SYS:LOGIN directory of the
RBL file server. After you install the new version of Netport Manager,
it copies the new Application Code to the SYS:LOGIN directory of the RBL
file servers you specify as part of EL configuration.

To upgrade the Application Code for a configured EL

  a) Start Netport Manager and select the Netport you want to upgrade.
  b) Choose Configure.
  c) Choose Configure Netport Hardware. The Remote Boot Load Server
field shows the current RBL file server. You can update the
Application Code on this RBL server or select another.
  d) Choose OK. Netport Manager copies the latest version of the
Application Code to the RBL server. Other ELs that use the same
RBL file server will be upgraded when you reset them. If they
       have old Flash

4 SOFTWARE AND PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENTS

Netport Manager addresses an issues where an RBL Flash memory update
fails with a COS 7,0,2 error.

Get Nearest Files Server requests have been increased to once every
five seconds.

This update also addresses a rare issue where the Token Ring NetportExpress
print server puts additional traffic on the network. (version 2.52 and above)

Source routing has been enhanced in the token ring environment. (ver 2.52
and above)

The Novell print server application is more robust preventing resets. (ver
2.52 and above)

5 SOFTWARE LIMITATIONS
