Exporting Files to Other Packages
All reports generated by SurveyMaker are
exportable for use by other software packages.
They can be saved as disk files using the
universal standard ASCII format. This allows
you to load them into your favorite word
processor, spreadsheet, or graphic/layout
package and include them in other documents.

Whenever you use the procedure for printing a
SurveyMaker output, whether it is a
questionnaire, answer sheet, survey report (in
any of various versions), or a report of an
advanced procedure, you have the option of
sending it to a disk file instead of to the
printer. SurveyMaker supplies a ".TXT" file
name extension and you supply the root file
name. The output contained in the disk file
will be an exact image of the normal printed
version.

Note that SurveyMaker cannot load a .TXT file
report that it has printed, because it does
not have the special formatting information
contained in its standard version. So be sure
to save all of your questionnaires and reports
in standard format in addition to printing
them as text files for export.

You can also export certain reports in a form
compatible with most spreadsheet programs.
The overview survey report and the cross-tab
report both have these options, available on
the F2-Files menu. By choosing the menu
option for saving either of these reports as a
spreadsheet-compatible file, you can export it
in tab-delimited ASCII format. Be sure to set
your spreadsheet program to recognize this
type of file.

Then you can load it with your spreadsheet
program, adjust the column widths to include
the full key-word descriptors, and proceed to
use the report as you would any other
spreadsheet report. With spreadsheet programs
that create charts and graphs, you can easily
transform the exported SurveyMaker file into
the kinds of graphs you are used to working
with.
