Building Reports: Printing Comment Items
If your data file contains results from
comment-type questions, you can print reports
showing the narrative answers the respondents
gave to those items. The data-entry procedure
allows you to enter these items right along
with the multiple-choice and numeric items,
and the reporting procedure enables you to
print them out verbabim.

SurveyMaker reports on one comment item at a
time, i.e. you run a separate scan for each
comment item you are interested in. The
report shows the question number, the key-word
descriptor, the identifier of the respondent
and the text of that person's response.

If you have linked the data file to the source
questionnaire, (see the separate help topic
for this procedure), the report will also
include the text of the question.
You can filter the responses included on the
comment report, just as on the full data-scan
report. Each comment response can be up to
250 characters, which amounts to about four
printed lines on the report with typical
margin settings.

As with all SurveyMaker reports, you can
export the comment report to a disk file for
use by other programs. This is an option you
select during the running of the report, in
which you direct the report to a disk file
instead of to the printer. SurveyMaker
supplies a ".TXT" file name extension for such
reports.
