  A. UPDATES FUNCTION PROVIDES INFORMATION ON POLICY CHANGES

You may view and print a history of policy changes since
KnowledgePoint's first UPDATE in 1989. You may want to know what
changes and improvements have been made to the policies resulting
from regulations, court decisions, and better ways of managing
     people.

You may view or print the Policies Now! UpdateService Changes
listing sorted by either policy number or chronologically by
     update.

TO VIEW OR PRINT A HISTORY OF POLICY UPDATES:
     * From the MAIN MENU, select EDITOR.
     * From the EDITOR MENU, select PRINT.
     * From the PRINT MENU, select UPDATES.

The listing will first be displayed chronologically by update.

II. HOW TO SETUP PN WITH MICROSOFT WINDOWS(tm)

Here are the steps to setup PN as a DOS application in Microsoft
     Windows:

     1. To make it easier, we have provided a PIF FILE and an ICON
FILE in the directory containing PN's program files. Copy the
PN.PIF and PN.ICO files from the \PN directory to your MS
Windows directory. Assuming you have installed PN to C:\PN and
MS Windows to C:\WINDOWS, from the DOS prompt enter:
                COPY C:\PN\PN.PIF C:\WINDOWS
                COPY C:\PN\PN.ICO C:\WINDOWS

     2. Within MS Windows, OPEN the GROUP in which you want to place
the PN ICON. Then, from the PROGRAM MANAGER, select FILE, then
         select NEW.

     3. In the NEW PROGRAM OBJECT dialog box, choose to create a
PROGRAM ITEM. Complete the input boxes as follows:

            Description: Policies Now!
            Command line: PN.PIF
Working directory: [pathname of PN program files]
                                (For example, C:\PN or F:\PUBLIC\PN)

     4. Select CHANGE ICON and specify PN.ICO for the filename. You
should see the PN icon in the current icon box. Select OK.
The PN icon should now appear in the group that was selected
         in Step 2 above.

NOTE: The PN.PIF file assumes you have installed the program to
C:\PN. If this is not the case, go to the MAIN GROUP, select the
PIF EDITOR, OPEN the file PN.PIF, and change the START-UP
DIRECTORY input box to the pathname of the PN program files.

If you have any other questions, please consult your MS Windows
     user manual.

III. IMPORTING POLICY TEXT INTO YOUR WORD PROCESSOR

Text attributes such as bold type, underlining, and graphics cannot be
added with PN's built-in EDITOR. Therefore, some users prefer to use
a word processing program outside of PN to edit and/or print the
policies. However, PN recommends that you make any text changes to
policies within the program before exporting them to a word processor
for final printing. By following this sequence, the text of policies
in the PN files will be identical to those you have distributed. This
will make it easier to revise your handbook with future versions of PN.

PN has an EXPORT function that allows you to transfer copies of
policies you have previously created to any hard disk subdirectory
(or to a floppy disk) for subsequent importing into your word
processor. (See "Exporting to Your Word Processor" in Chapter 4 of the
     user manual for instructions.)

All files are saved within PN as standard ASCII-character DOS
text files. (ASCII is an acronym for American Standard Code for
Information Interchange, a standard character format for exchanging
files between programs.) When policies are exported, however, the
text will be in modified ASCII format (generic word processing format).
Most word processing programs have the capability to import or retrieve
     ASCII files in this format.

Modified ASCII format means that carriage return/line feed codes (also
known as hard returns) are at the end of paragraphs only. (Standard
ASCII has these codes at the end of each line of text as well as at the
end of paragraphs.) As a result, the text will automatically word wrap
and be formatted to your word processor's margin settings when you
retrieve an exported file into your word processor.

The following section documents some of the functions within several
popular word processing programs to make it easier for you to import
and print the PN policy files. It is not a complete reference - -
it is designed to get you started. Please consult your word processor's
user manual for detailed instructions for your program version.

Printing the final copy of the complete handbook is easiest if you
retrieve all the policies into one document of your word processor.
This allows you to place more than one policy on a page and to use
your word processor's capabilities such as page numbering, headers,
and footers. To export all policies to one file, in the EXPORT
function select the option ALL POLICIES TO ONE FILE NAMED
"POLICIES.AXP" (or "POLICIES.PXP"). Then, follow the instructions for
your word processor to retrieve the ASCII text file.
