Subject:	Top Solomon IV Installation Questions

This bulletin contains answers to the most commonly asked questions about
installing Solomon IV.

Q:	Setup receives a path/file error while copying files.
A:	Your CD-ROM drive is not properly configured. Refer to the vendor
specifications for your drive to determine if the drivers are up to
date and installed properly. Also, see if a message on the fileserver
indicates a packet receive or send problem. We experienced this
problem and had to replace our workstation NIC. Our experience shows
more problems when a CD-ROM is used as a fileserver volume rather than
as a local workstation drive. Again, refer to the vendor
specifications for your drive to determine the proper drivers.

Q:	When trying to run Setup, I get a message that it cannot find
	NetWare.DLL.
A:	This usually means that Windows has not been defined for Novell
NetWare. Go to Windows Setup, select Option, Change System Settings,
and specify the correct entry in Network.

Q:	When trying to run Setup, I receive a General Protection Fault during
	the process.
A:	1. The workstation is not configured properly for optimized
conventional memory (i.e., EMM386 is not in CONFIG.SYS).
	2. VLMs are being used at the workstation. VLMs have not yet been
fully tested and verified for use with Solomon IV.

Q:	*2115 Error at sign-on.
A:	You do not have enough DOS conventional memory at your workstation.
You need at least 580K before loading Windows because NetWare SQL's
DOS Requester is loaded into workstation conventional memory prior to
loading Windows. Solomon IV uses the maximum data length supported by
	the Requester for optimal performance.

Q:	*2103 Error at sign-on.
A:	1. Windows has not been reloaded after running Setup to load the SQL
	    requester, or
	2. The NetWare SQL NLM has not been started using NSSTART at the
	    fileserver prompt, or
	3. The "Setup SQL Named Table" button was not enabled after
	    installation was complete, or
	4. The Setup User option of install has not been installed at this
workstation. Executing the workstation portion of the install
creates WINSTART.BAT and NOVDB.INI files and places them in the
\WINDOWS subdirectory. WINSTART.BAT is executed when you type WIN
to go into Windows, and loads the NetWare SQL Requester at the
	    workstation.

Q:	I already have NetWare SQL. Anything that I need to know?
A:	Patch both your Btrieve and NetWare SQL NLM's if they are not versions
6.10c and 3.0e respectively. On the Solomon IV CD, in the \SQLPATCH
directory, the SQL30.DOC file explains how to apply these patches.

Q:	I have a previous version of Solomon IV or an SEK already installed.
Anything that I need to know?
A:	1. Completely remove any prior versions of Solomon IV before
installing the new version. Prior beta and SEK versions have data
and program files no longer in use that may not be compatible with
new versions. DO NOT use Setup's "Remove System" option as this
does not completely remove some prior version program and data
	    files.
	2. Run a database upgrade process to use your database with the
newest version of Solomon IV. Refer to the S4TOS4.TXT file
located in the \CONVERT directory of the Solomon IV CD. In June,
1994 we will have a completely revised version of this conversion
	    available.

Q:	If I purchased NetWare SQL from Solomon, what do I do with the
	diskettes in the "Novell" packaging?
A:	These should be kept in your archives since they contain the original
NetWare SQL NLM and license. There should be a Solomon diskette
labeled NetWare SQL included with your order. If you choose to install
NetWare SQL with the Solomon IV Setup program, NetWare SQL is
installed from the CD. You will be prompted to install the NetWare
diskette during installation. The Solomon provided NetWare SQL
diskette is a newer (patched) version, which is REQUIRED for Solomon
	IV.

Q:	I installed the NetWare SQL provided with Solomon IV. When I type
SOLOMON at the fileserver prompt, I get messages like "Loader cannot
	find public symbol....".
A:	1. Make sure all NLMs (Including CLIB, MATHLIBC, and STREAMS) are
unloaded and re-loaded prior to typing SOLOMON. If they are
unloaded and you still get these messages, you probably do not
have the newest versions of the supporting Novell NLMs. You can
obtain these from the \NOVELL directory on the Solomon IV CD.
Directories NW311 and NW312 contain the newest NLM's for these
versions, (Note: We have not fully tested NetWare 4.0. As of the
date of this document, there are no newer supporting NLMs for
	    Netware 4.0.), or
	2. The file BTRIEVE.TRN (located in SYS:SYSTEM) is flagged READ-ONLY.

Q:	I have a Solomon III database that I want to convert to Solomon IV.
A:	Refer to the S3TOS4.TXT file located in the \UPGRADE directory of the
Solomon IV CD. In June, 1994 we will have a completely revised
	version of this conversion available.

Q:	When signing into Solomon IV, I receive a *235 error.
A:	You must patch both your Btrieve and NetWare SQL NLM's if they are not
versions 6.10c and 3.0e respectively. On the Solomon IV CD, in the
\SQLPATCH directory, the SQL30.DOC file explains how to apply these
patches. The patched BTRIEVE.NLM file is located on the Solomon IV
	CD in the \SQL directory.

Q:	*Error 12 at sign-on.
A:	If you did not click on the Set Up Name Table Button in Setup, you
must run the NetWare NDBSETUP NLM. If you already ran NDBSETUP,
(error 12 is a Btrieve "file not found error") then Solomon IV cannot
locate your database. To run NDBSETUP refer to pages 2-8 through 2-15
of the NetWare SQL Installation and Operation Manual. If you do not
have this manual, from the fileserver prompt, enter LOAD NDBSETUP

	1. From the Database Names window, press the Insert key. An edit
window appears in the bottom left corner of the screen. If you
want to abandon your edits at any time during this procedure,
press Esc. If you have typed at least one character, the Setup
utility displays a Save changes window. To abandon your edits,
	    select No in this window.

	2. At the Enter Database Name window type the name SOLOMONSYSTEM and
press Enter, (this name is case insensitive, which means the names
of SOLOMONSYSTEM and SolomonSystem are considered to be the same).

	3. After you press Enter, the Enter Dictionary Location window
appears at the bottom of the screen.

	4. At the Enter Dictionary Location window, type the pathname for the
dictionary location and press Enter. This path name for a Solomon
IV default installation would be SYS:SOL4\DB\SYSTEM

	5. The data file location for SOLOMONSYSTEM is the same as the
dictionary location. This window displays the pathname you
entered for the dictionary file location. Accept this default.

	6. Specify NO to add more data file locations for the SOLOMONSYSTEM
	    database.

	7. You must also set up another database called SEKTRIAL. From the
Database Names window, press the Insert key. An edit window
appears in the bottom left corner of the screen.

	8. At the Enter Database Name window type SEKTRIAL and press Enter,
	    (this name is case insensitive).

	9. After you press Enter, the Enter Dictionary Location window
appears at the bottom of the screen.

	10. At the Enter Dictionary Location window, type the pathname for the
dictionary location and press Enter. This path name for a
Solomon IV default installation would be SYS:SOL4\DB\SYSTEM.

	11. The data file location window displays the pathname you entered
for the dictionary file location. Accept this default.

	12. There are two data file locations for SEKTRIAL and any other
Solomon IV database. The first is the system file directory
(which you just entered) and the second is the directory
containing the files specific for this database. After you press
Enter, the Setup utility asks if you want to enter another data
file location. Answer YES to add more data file locations for the
	    SEKTRIAL database.

	13. At the Enter Data File Location window, type the pathname for the
remaining data files and press Enter.

The format for this pathname is one of the following:

		\ \server\SYS:SOL4\DB\TRIAL
Used for SEKTRIAL data files that reside on a server
other than the one on which the dictionary file
			resides.

		SYS:SOL4\DB\TRIAL
Used for SEKTRIAL data files that reside on a
different volume than the dictionary file.

		\SOL4\DB\TRIAL
Used for data files that reside on the same volume as
			the dictionary file.

Do not use a drive letter or server name in the path name. If you
do not specify a volume, the Setup utility assumes the volume SYS.

	14. When you finish defining the data file locations, select No at the
Enter Another Data File Location? prompt.
