========================================================================

  GENERAL UPDATE INFORMATION

  * When you run Install, configuration files for the
previous version are stored in the \PCTOOLS\OLDPCT
directory. To restore any of these files, copy them
     back to the \PCTOOLS\DATA directory.

  * The only PC Tools Pro applications included in More PC
Tools are SI Pro and CPR, which is now called
     CrashGuard Pro.

If other PC Tools Pro applications are
on your hard disk, they are retained by More PC Tools
Install. You can still launch them from PC Tools
Desktop/Shell. The best way to delete PC Tools Pro
programs to free disk space, is to run UNINST9 to
     uninstall them.

  * For the most up-to-date information about new menu
items, command buttons, and dialog boxes, and about
features that might work differently than documented in
the manuals, press F1 in each More PC Tools application
     for online help.

  * Command-line options are listed in each More PC Tools
application chapter in the manual. To display a list
of command-line options on the screen, type /? after
the program name at the DOS prompt.

NOTES ON SPECIFIC MORE PC TOOLS PROGRAMS

CrashGuard Pro (CPR (Central Point Recuperator))
  -------------------------------
  * If you get a stack fault error during a CrashGuard Pro
restore, increase the stack size to 16, 512.

To increase stack size, change the existing STACKS line
or add this line to your CONFIG.SYS file:
         STACKS=16, 512

  * The current version of CrashGuard Pro does not restore
video state correctly on monitors running in 8514 mode,
or ATI Ultra monitors in Super VGA mode.

  * Network recovery has not been tested in this beta
version. Do not rely on CrashGuard Pro to recover
network sessions, even for the supported networks,
     Novell Lite and MainLAN.

  * For more detail about CrashGuard Pro and specific
limitations for its use with Microsoft Windows and
networks, see the CPR.TXT file in your \PCTOOLS\SYSTEM
     directory.

  * CPR Setup cannot install CrashGuard Pro if you are
     using MS-DOS 6 Multi-Config in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
To add CrashGuard Pro to a Multi-Config file manually,
     see your MS-DOS documentation.

  * If you are running the PC Tools for Windows desktop,
Install does not create a More PC Tools group with
     CrashGuard in it.

To add CrashGuard to the desktop, choose New File
from the desktop File menu. Then choose WNGUARD.EXE
from the More PC Tools directory.

  * If you have Delete Sentry enabled when you install
CrashGuard Pro, it might claim there is not enough
space on your uncompressed drive to save its image
file, even though DOS reports adequate free space. This
is because Delete Sentry saves information about
deleted file's location, but changes the path to the
file in the File Allocation Table, preventing DOS from
     finding it.

To make space available, make sure you retrieve any
deleted files you might want, then purge the deleted
     files in Undelete:

       1. From DOS, type Undel and press Enter.
       2. Choose Purge Deleted Files from the File menu.
       3. Select Delete Sentry.

  * Do not load CPRLOW.EXE as a DEVICE HIGH statement
in your CONFIG.SYS file. This causes your system to
     reboot continuously.

  * If you use a memory manager such as 386Max or MemMaker,
do not use its default or automatic settings, which might
try to load CPRLOW.EXE in high memory. Use the custom
settings that let you ensure that CPRLOW.EXE is loaded
     in low memory.

  * CrashGuard Pro is not compatible with OnTrack Disk
Manager, the Spectrum/24 graphics card manufactured by
SuperMac Technology, or Tiga video cards.

  * CrashGuard Pro identifies your computer video type by
reading the chipset, not by identifying the video board
manufacturer. For example, you may have a Genoa video
card that uses a Cirrus 2 chipset. If so, Cirrus 2
appears in the Advanced Configuration dialog box.

  * New video drivers are being developed continuously for
CrashGuard Pro and will be made available for
downloading from our BBS, with an accompanying README
     file.

  * If you make changes to your AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS,
or SYSTEM.INI files, you should reinstall CPR. See your
     manual for instructions on reinstallation.

 DriveCheck
 ----------

  * The command-line option that controls DriveCheck
fragmentation warning messages is different from the
     option listed in the manual.

The fragmentation warning is related to the decrease in
disk access speed that would occur if all files on the
     disk were accessed equally.

     The new option settings are

        /FRAG=LO or /FRAG=HI

    - Set the warning level to LO if you use applications
that read and write files often and you have a small
        disk cache.

     - Set it to HI if you have a large disk cache and do
        not read large files frequently.

If you do not specify a fragmentation level, the
default is to warn you when it is at the medium, or
     moderate, level.

  * DriveCheck calculates file fragmentation by dividing
the number of file fragments in all files on the disk by
the number of assigned clusters. It includes hidden and
system files in the calculation, although these files
are not moved by disk defragmenting applications.

Other applications might use a different method of
calculating fragmentation, and might not include
     hidden and system files.

If hidden and system files are badly fragmented,
     fragmentation levels may stay high.

  * DriveCheck now has a new command-line option that
     provides information.

/DUMP For tech support use. If DriveCheck reports problems
that no other program can find, use this option to
create a file containing your FATs and other file
             structure
information, including all directories. The file is
             called DUMPDISK.CPS.

Syntax: CD /DUMP:<drive to be dumped>=<floppy drive
                                       to write file>
             Example: CD /DUMP:C=B

Information for all except the largest disk drives can
fit on a high-density disk. Attach DUMPDISK.CPS to
a bug report that you e-mail to the Central Point
             External Test BBS.

 DriveSpeed
  ---------------
  * The maximum size of a drive that DriveSpeed can handle is
    504 MB, not 528, using the 1024 x 1024 byte method of
    calculating megabytes.

  * If your computer uses Direct Memory Access (DMA) to transfer
data to and from the drive, DriveSpeed might not work.

  * An older Conner CP3184 drive with firmware revision
2.18 locks if you use the default transfer size of 64
     sectors.

The same problem might occur with an older Maxtor
     drive.

To correct this problem, use the /M32 or /S32 command-
     line when you load DriveSpeed.

  * A DTC SCSI disk controller with an MFM daughter board
incorrectly emulates the IDE command set so that
DriveSpeed thinks it is an IDE drive, but it isn't.

Do not use DriveSpeed with this configuration.

  * DriveSpeed cannot run with caching IDE controller cards.
Your system will lock and you might lose data.

  Install
  -------

  * Install for More PC Tools keeps the PC Tools Pro
version of INSTALL.EXE by renaming it to INSTALL9.EXE.
The PC Tools Pro version of UNINSTAL.BAT is renamed
     UNINST9.BAT.

PC Tools Pro PCCONFIG.EXE is renamed to PCCONFG9.EXE.

  *  The MS-DOS 6 Multi-Config system lets you select a
system configuration at boot time. We do not
recommend this feature for novice or intermediate
users. If you use Multi-Config, include the More PC
Tools drivers and TSRs you consider essential to all PC
operations in the "common section" of your
     configuration file.

  * If you are running DR-DOS or a version of MS-DOS
earlier than 5.0, Install searches your drives for the
first AUTOEXEC.BAT file in the root directory. If
Install cannot find the file, it prompts you for the
     location of your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

  * If you are using Direct Access, the More PC Tools
installation program converts only version 5.1 files
for use with PC Tools Desktop.

  * When you configure Startup Programs during
installation, batch files executed with a CALL command
in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file are not run. For example, if
your AUTOEXEC.BAT file contains a line like CALL
NET.BAT, which loads your network drivers, More PC
Tools memory-resident programs might not load in the
correct order because Startup Programs cannot find the
network drivers. If this is the case, temporarily edit
your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to load the contents of the
batch files directly, run PC Config and select the
Startup Programs you want. Save the configuration, and
reboot your machine. After you have rebooted, you can
edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to use the CALL command.

  * After you have used REGDOS to register your product by
modem, you can delete the registration application files to
    save disk space.

From your More PC Tools directory, delete REGDOS.EXE,
    REGDOS.HLP, REGPRINT.CTL, PIPELINE.INI, and PIPEDLG.DAT.

 PC Config
 ---------------

  * If you have PC Tools programs installed on your disk,
PC Config contains two buttons in the Configure Startup
Programs screen, one for setting up PC Tools Pro
applications (Tools Startup Programs), the other for
configuring More PC Tools applications (More Startup
     Programs).

  * Make sure that you choose More Startup Programs
to set up CrashGuard (CPR). If you use PC Tools
Startup Programs to set up CrashGuard, your
BOOTSAFE and VSAFE directory is changed in AUTOEXEC.BAT
to the More PC Tools directory.

If you do set up CrashGuard from the Tools Startup
Programs screen, edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to
make sure that the virus detection directory is
     correct.

 Register
 --------

   * The automatic registration program does not recognize
modems that run at 1200 baud or below. If your modem
can run at 2400 baud or higher, you can use REGDOS
     to register More PC Tools.

System Information Pro
----------------------------------

  * Some older 286-class and 386-class computers might
exhibit problems with the motherboard tests. Some of
these computers use non-standard chipsets and non-
standard BIOS. Most newer machines conform to a
     standard architecture.

  * If you use a display adapter that has VESA extensions
in the on-board BIOS along with a memory-manager, boot
your computer with your emergency disk when performing
the Super VGA and Color bar tests. The memory manager
tries to use the same memory addresses as the VESA, and
although SI Pro might find the VESA extensions, it
     might perform the tests incorrectly.

  * Super VGA tests may fail on some Trident 8900C 1MB
video boards. This is because the video chipset reports
that a HI-Color DAC (digital to analog converter) is
present when, in fact, the DAC is not capable of
     supporting Hi-Color.

  * Some older BIOS might not show more than two serial
ports (COM 1 and COM 2), even though a third or fourth
might exist. SI Pro reports only ports that are seen by
     the BIOS.

  * The PCM sound test might sound unclear if you run SI
Pro from a floppy disk. This is caused by DMA channel
     conflicts.

 Uninstall
 -------------

  * To uninstall PC Tools Pro applications, type either
         UNINST9
     or
         INSTALL9
     at the DOS prompt.

Use INSTALL and UNINSTAL to uninstall More PC Tools
     applications only.

If you run INSTALL or UNINSTAL to remove all More PC
Tools applications, a message appears after
uninstallation, telling you that you should next run
UNINST9 if you want to remove PC Tools Pro
     applications.

  * If PCCONFG9.EXE exists, it is renamed to PCCONFIG.EXE
after the More PC Tools PCCONFIG.EXE has been deleted.
