Installing Microsoft Windows NT drivers for
the HP 27247B EtherTwist PC LAN Adapter/16 TP Plus &
the HP 27252A EtherTwist PC LAN Adapter/16 TL Plus.

NOTE: The Novell Netware Windows NT Requestor does not use this driver.
The Novell Requestor driver is in directory \BETA.

The Microsoft Windows NT network setup uses a file OEMSETUP.INF to
determine the driver information for the HP EtherTwist LAN adapter you
have installed in your computer. The OEMSETUP.INF file and the driver
file, HPISA.SYS are located in the \WINNT directory of this Support Disk.
In the rest of this document, we'll use "LAN Adapter/16 Plus" to represent
the HP EtherTwist LAN Adapter/16 Plus products (HP 27247B and HP 27252A).

Use the following instructions to install the LAN Adapter/16 Plus and
its Windows NT driver:

1. Install the LAN Adapter/16 Plus into the computer.

If you are installing the LAN Adapter/16 Plus in an EISA computer,
run the computer's EISA configuration utility first before
installing the LAN Adapter/16 Plus. See "Note for EISA Computers"
at the end of this file for directions.

Follow the LAN Adapter/16 Plus Installation Guide and the computer
documentation for the correct procedure to install an I/O adapter
into the computer. Ensure that power has been disconnected from the
computer before opening the computer's case.

2. Configure and test the LAN Adapter/16 Plus.

Reconnect power to the computer and boot DOS. Run the HP configurator
on the HP Support Disk. For example, if the Support Disk is in floppy
drive A, execute the following commands at the DOS prompt:

	A:
	HPLANSET

NOTE: If HPLANSet is unable to find the LAN Adapter/16 Plus, the
most likely reason is an address conflict. See "Note:
	  Resolving Base Address Conflicts" below.

If you are installing the LAN Adapter/16 Plus in an EISA computer,
select "Manual Configuration" and set "Interrupt Level" and "I/O Address
Range" (and "I/O or Memory Mapped" and "Boot ROM") to the values selected
using the computer's EISA configuration utility.

If you are installing the LAN Adapter/16 Plus in an ISA computer,
select "Auto Configuration" to let HPLANSet choose available I/O
Address Range and Interrupt values. Write down the I/O Address
Range and interrupt value for step 5.

NOTE: Auto configuration does not work if more than one LAN
Adapter/16 Plus is installed. See the LAN Adapter/16 Plus
guide section "Configuring Multiple Adapters in the Same
	  Computer" for the correct procedure.

Select "Card Test" to verify the adapter. After it passes, select
    "Exit program".

Connect the LAN cable to the LAN Adapter/16 Plus.

3. Install the Microsoft Windows NT SETUP utility.

Locate the Microsoft Windows NT System Guide and the Microsoft
diskette labeled "Windows Setup Disk #1" if you are installing from
floppy disks or "Setup Disk for CD-ROM Installation" if you are
    installing from CD-ROM.

With the computer turned off, insert the Microsoft diskette in drive A,
and then turn on the computer.

Follow the instructions on each window to install Windows NT. One of
the steps in the installation is selecting the network adapter driver.

For Express Setup, Windows NT Setup automatically checks for a network
adapter and installs the first one it recognizes. Windows NT Setup
cannot detect HP network adapters so it will continue and ask if you
want to install Microsoft Remote Access Service. If you do not choose
to install Remote Access Service, Setup displays the Network Adapter
Setup dialog box and asks you to select an adapter from a list. When you
get to that point, continue your installation following the instructions
    in step 4.

For Custom Setup, Windows NT Setup asks if you want it to detect the
network adapter in your computer. Select the "Do Not Detect" button.
Setup will then display the Network Adapter Setup dialog box and asks
you to select an adapter from a list. When you get to that point,
continue your installation following the instructions in step 4.

If you want to add the network driver after Microsoft Windows NT has
been installed, select the "Network" icon in Control Panel. When
"Network Settings" window appears, select "Add Adapter" to start the
process of adding the LAN Adapter/16 Plus network card into your
    Microsoft Windows NT environment.

4. Select the network adapter driver.

Use this Support Disk and follow the instructions given below to configure
your LAN Adapter/16 Plus network card:

When the "Network Adapter Setup" dialog box shows up, use the arrow keys
    to highlight the line:

	<Other> Requires disk from manufacturer

Click on the "Continue" button to select this item.

When the "Insert Diskette" window appears, insert this Support Disk into
floppy drive and enter the path name at the prompt. For example, if
the diskette is in floppy drive A, then enter:

	A:\WINNT

When the "Select OEM Option" window appears with the lines:

HP 27245A PC LAN Adapter/8 TP
HP 27247A PC LAN Adapter/16 TP
HP 27247B PC LAN Adapter/16 TP Plus
HP 27250 PC LAN Adapter/8 TL
HP 27252A PC LAN Adapter/16 TL Plus

use the arrow key to highlight the line indicating your adapter and press
the ENTER key to select it.

Then, Setup will load all the required driver files. The network
adapter driver file resides in the \WINNT directory of this Support Disk.

5. Edit parameters to match LAN Adapter/16 Plus configuration.

When the "HP 272xx PC LAN Adapter Setup" appears edit the parameters
of the network driver. Ensure that all the parameters match those
previously set by the HPLANSET configurator program. After the editting
is done, select "OK" button to finish installing the LAN Adapter/16 Plus
driver into the Windows NT environment.

At this point, all the steps required for the installation of network
driver are done. If you are in the process of installing Microsoft Windows
NT, proceed with the Windows NT Setup program until the complete setup
    procedure is done.

The installation and/or changes of network configuration will not take
effect until the computer is rebooted.

Note for EISA Computers
=======================

Run the EISA configuration utility supplied with the computer to select
values for the two LAN Adapter/16 Plus resources: I/O Address Range,
and Interrupt. The EISA utility will ensure that resources allocated to
the LAN Adapter/16 Plus will not be given to other adapters.

The EISA configuration files for the LAN Adapter/16 Plus reside in the
root directory on the HP Support Disk. Depending on the EISA configuration
utility supplied with your computer you may be prompted to insert a
vendor diskette, or you may have to manually copy the configuration
files to the directory where your EISA configuration utility expects
them.

Below are directions for using the EISA utility to select resources for
the LAN Adapter/16 Plus:

A. Run the EISA configuration utility supplied with the computer.
Follow the procedure to add a new card to the computer.

B. Select the proper configuration from the selections displayed:

!HWP1832.CFG HP EtherTwist PC LAN Adapter/16 TP Plus (27247B)
!HWP18A0.CFG HP EtherTwist PC LAN Adapter/16 TL Plus (27252A)

Note: If the HP LAN Adapter/16 Plus selections are not displayed and
the EISA configuration utility did not prompt for the vendor
diskette (the HP Support Disk), exit the EISA configuration
utility. Copy the HP EISA configuration files to the
directory or diskette containing the EISA configuration
utility. For example, if the HP Support Disk is in drive A,
	  execute the following command:

	     COPY A:*.CFG

Then restart the EISA configuration process from step A.

C. Use the EISA utility to view the adapter configuration details. If
the "I/O Base Address " is not "300h - Factory Default", then
another board is using I/O addresses in the range 300 - 31Fh and
must be removed before installing the LAN Adapter/16 Plus. See
"Note: Resolving Base Address Conflicts" below.

D. If desired, the indicated values for I/O Base Address and Interrupt
Channel (IRQ) may be changed to any other non-conflicting values.
Write down the final values for these parameters for use in step
    two.

E. If a Boot ROM is to be used on the card, or Memory Mapped Mode is to
be enabled, select non-conflicting values from the choices
presented, and write down those values for use in step two.

F. Save the configuration and turn off power to the computer when
    instructed by the EISA utility.

Note: Resolving Base Address Conflicts
======================================

If any of your computer's peripherals, including any other LAN adapters
already installed, are using I/O addresses in the same address range as
your LAN Adapter/16 Plus (300-31Fh factory default), HPLANSet will not
be able to find your LAN Adapter/16 Plus. You must first remove or
change the I/O address used by the conflicting peripheral, use HPLANSet
to reconfigure the LAN Adapter/16 Plus to a non-conflicting I/O address,
and then restore the conflicting peripheral. Alternatively you may move
the LAN Adapter/16 Plus to another system that has no conflict, use
HPLANSet there to configure it, and then transfer the card back to the
original destination computer.
