Host Based Files for Serial Xpress (Host Release set 6.3)

******************************************************************************

This file describes the installation procedure for the Serial Xpress host
based files.

DISK CONTENTS

The distribution diskettes contain the following files:

	1) README	this file
	2) UPCPX.EXE	a decompression utility
	3) UNIX.CPX	an archive containing compressed files for Unix systems
	4) VMS.CPX	an archive containing compressed files for VMS systems

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1) Extract the files from the distribution diskette

Copy UPCPX.EXE from diskette 1 to the desired destination directory.

	cd \dir

where 'dir' is the desired destination directory.

	copy A:upcpx.exe .

where 'A' is the drive containing the distribution diskette.

To extract all Unix files, place diskette 1 into the floppy drive and enter:

        upcpx A:unix

where 'A' is the drive containing the distribution diskette.

To extract all VMS files, place diskette 2 into the floppy drive and enter:

        upcpx A:vms

The above methods will extract all of the files in the designated archive.
If you extract all files in the UNIX and VSM archives, you will require
approximately 5 Mb of disk space.

If you wish to copy only the necessary files, you may replace the above
steps with one of the following:

	upcpx A:unix -attr X

	    or

	upcpx A:vms -attr X

    where 'X' is one of:

	    0 Sample Unix configuration files.
	    1 Sample VMS configuration files.
2 Serial Xpress processes for VMS systems.
3 Serial Xpress process for DEC Risc Ultrix.
	    4 Serial Xpress process for HP 9000 series 300 & 400.
5 Serial Xpress process for IBM RISC/6000.
6 Serial Xpress process for Silicon Graphics.
7 Serial Xpress process for Sun SparcStation.
8 Serial Xpress process for HP 9000 series 700.
9 Serial Xpress process for SCO Open Desktop 3.0.
10 Serial Xpress process for DEC Alpha OSF/1.
11 Serial Xpress process for DEC Alpha Open VMS.
12 Serial Xpress process for Data General 88.
13 Serial Xpress process for EESIX.

2) Installing files on Unix Systems

The sample configuration files are named:

SERIAL.SES for all Unix systems except HP 9000 series 700
	SERIAL.HPS for HP 9000 series 700
	SXPRO.RC

These files must be copied to the appropriate directory on your host
computer. This may be done from any PC with a TCP/IP file transfer
utility. Alternately, the files may be copied via a serial file transfer
protocol such as KERMIT or XMODEM.

These files should be renamed as follows:

SERIAL.SES --> .serialSession for all Unix systems except
					    HP 9000 series 700
	SERIAL.HPS  --> .serialSession	    for HP 9000 series 700
	SXPRO.RC    --> .sxprocessrc

The appropriate Serial Xpress process must also be copied and renamed.
The following table describes the supplied files and their final names:

Host PC File Name Host File Name
    ---- ------------ --------------
    DEC Risc Ultrix SXPRO.RUL sxprocess
    HP 9000 series 300 & 400	SXPRO.HP sxprocess
    IBM RISC/6000 SXPRO.IBM sxprocess
    SCO Desktop 3.0 SXPRO.SCO scprocess
    Silicon Graphics SXPRO.SGI sxprocess
    Sun SparcStation SXPRO.SUN sxprocess
    Sun SparcStation (Solaris)	SXSHLIB.SUN sxprocess
    HP 9000 series 700 SXPRO.HP7 sxprocess
    DEC Alpha OSF/1 SXALPHA.OSF sxprocess
    Data General 88 SXPROCD.G88 sxprocess
    EESIX SXPROCEE.SIX sxprocess

For further configuration information please refer to the supplied
Xpress/Host User's Guide. eXceed/Xpress is also documented in the
    Xpress/Host User's Guide.

3) Installation for VMS Systems

The sample configuration files are named:

	SXPRORC.TEM
	SXPSESS.COM
	SXPROCES.COM
	HCLSTART.COM
	HCLSYLOG.COM

These files must be copied to the appropriate directory on your host
computer. This may be done from any PC with TCP/IP or DECnet file
transfer services, depending on your host configuration. Alternately,
the files may be copied via a serial file transfer protocol such as
    KERMIT or XMODEM.

These files should be renamed as placed in the following directories:

    -	The SXPRORC.TEM file can be used as a template by copying it to the
SYS$LOGIN directory and renaming it SXPROCESSRC.

    -	The SXPSESS.COM file can be used as the default session script by
placing it in SYS$LOGIN and renaming it SXPSESSION.COM.

    -	The SXPROCES.COM file should be placed in your home directory and named
	SXPROCESS.COM.

    -	The HCLSTART.COM file should be placed in your home directory and named
	HCL_STARTUP.COM.

    -	The HCLSYLOG.COM file should be placed in your home directory and named
	HCL_SYLOGIN.COM.

The appropriate Serial Xpress process must also be copied and renamed.
The following table describes the supplied files and their final names:

Host PC File Name Host File Name
    ---- ------------ --------------
    DEC VMS (DECnet)	SXPRO.EXE SXPROCESS.EXE
    DEC VMS MultiNet	SXPRO.MUL SXPROCESS.MULTINET
    DEC VMS (TCP/IP)	SXPRO.UCX SXPROCESS.UCX
