To use APC's Lotus Notes shutdown command file,
perform the following steps (Note - these steps
assume that PowerChute is installed in a directory
called C:\PWRCHUTE. If PowerChute is not installed
in this location, use the appropriate pathnames in
steps 2 and 3):

1. Determine the amount of time required to shut down
    your Lotus Notes server. This can be done by
    executing the DWNNOTES.CMD command file described
    below. Be sure to consider shutdown with a high
    workload on your server.

2. Copy the following files from the diskette into
    the PWRCHUTE directory:

         DWNNOTES.CMD
         SHUTNOTE.EXE

3. Using a text editor, make the following changes to
    the PWRCHUTE.INI file (in the PWRCHUTE directory):

    Change the lines

        Timerexpscript =
        Lowbatteryscript =

    to read

        Timerexpscript = c:\pwrchute\dwnnotes.cmd
        Lowbatteryscript = c:\pwrchute\dwnnotes.cmd

4. Also in the PWRCHUTE.INI file, set the LowBatteryShutdownDelay
    to the amount of time in seconds required to shut down
    your Lotus Notes server. For example, if it takes two
    minutes to shut down Lotus Notes, the line in the
    PWRCHUTE.INI file will read

        LowBatteryShutdownDelay = 120

    NOTE: If you use the PowerChute workstation screen, this
          value corresponds to the "Shutdown Script Execution
          Time" in the Power Fail Parameters box (accessed
          through the Configuration menu).

5. If necessary, edit the DWNNOTES.CMD file to include the
    appropriate pathname to SHUTNOTE.EXE. This is required
    only if SHUTNOTE.EXE is not located in C:\PWRCHUTE.

PowerChute will now shut down Lotus Notes when a prolonged power
failure occurs. Note that the UPS will run on battery for a
designated amount of time (MaxBatteryRunTime in the PWRCHUTE.INI
file; "Maximum Time on Battery" in the Power Fail Parameters
box) BEFORE the Lotus Notes shutdown begins. Be sure that your
UPS has enough run time available to support both the battery
run time and the Lotus Notes shutdown time.
