                                  ROADTECH
                               April 28, 1994
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

This README.TXT includes important information about your ROADTECH
   program.

1. One of the key features of ROADTECH is portability. Therefore, the
entire program fits on one disk, and there is no installation program.
The original diskettes are permanently write-protected, so you can use
them without worrying about catching viruses or damaging the software.

2. If you have used our CheckIt PRO: Analyst program, you will be familiar
with the collecting, loading, and use of CKD files. Both Analyst and
ROADTECH allow you to collect data on multiple PCs, and then view that
data at any time. This works through the CKDATA data collection program.
CKDATA will collect system data and save it in a "CKD" file. You can
load these CKD files at any time, supporting as many machines from which
    you have collected data.

3. The ROADTECH diskettes are copy-protected. By running ROADTECH from the
original diskettes (we encourage this), you will never notice this.
However, if you copy the contents of the original diskettes to a hard
drive or another floppy, ROADTECH will ask you to "initialize" the copies
    with the original diskette.

To make a set of low density floppies, use the CKMAKE utility batch file
included on your original ROADTECH diskettes (your machine must have two
floppy drives to do this) and follow the steps below:

           1. Place a ROADTECH original diskette in one drive, and a blank,
               formatted diskette in the other.

           2. Change to the drive that contains the ROADTECH diskette.

           3. If the blank diskette is a 720k disk, type "CKMAKE 720".
If the blank diskette is a 360k disk, type "CKMAKE 360".

           4. Replace the blank disk with another when asked, repeating
               this step until task completed.

           5. Run ROADTECH from your new copy. You will be asked to
initialize the copy with the original diskette. Specify which
drive has the original ROADTECH diskette. You will only be
               asked for this once.

When you use the 720k or 360k disks, there will be the following limi-
    tations in the ROADTECH program:

           I. The Quick Test option under the test menu will not
function. You will receive a message stating that the
test applets could not be found. This is because some of the
applets are on disks other than disk 1.

II. The Version option under the Help menu will only provide
version data for CKRUN.EXE and CKDATA.EXE. This is also
due to some of the other applets residing on disks other than
disk 1. To check the versions of the applets from DOS,
insert the floppy with the applet you wish to test, change
               to that drive, and type:

                            appletname -ver [Enter]

4. If you plan to run ROADTECH from a DOS box in MS Windows, do not create
an icon for RT.EXE, rather create and icon for RTDOS.PIF. The standard
DOS box settings will cause some functions of ROADTECH to fail due to
memory usage. Therefore, we have created RTDOS.PIF, which avoids these
issues. Running RTDOS.PIF will open a full DOS screen in which you can
    run ROADTECH safely.

5 ROADTECH makes use of swap files when running the data collection and
test applets. Therefore, using ROADTECH on a machine with only one
floppy drive, no hard drives, and minimal or no XMS or EMS inhibits
the ability to create a swap file. If none of these conditions can be
met by the machine on which you are using ROADTECH, the data collection
and testing routines will not be completed within the menu interface.
To bypass this, run the data collection or test applets from the DOS
    command line. For example:

         CKDATA [filename.ckd]
         CKSYS command options.

For help using these applets from the command line, type the following:

          appletname /?
