             IMPORTANT GEAR INFORMATION FOR YOU...

Thank you for your order!

We have enclosed two extra GEAR batch utilities on this
diskette which you receive free of charge.
These can be used in combination with the GEAR software you
ordered or as stand alone products. The following section
explains how to use these extra utilities.

tree2cdr <volume_name> <tree_spec> [/e]

The parameter 'volume_name' specifies the name for the future
CD-ROM disc. The parameter 'dir_spec' specifies the name of
the DOS directory that will be written to CD-R disc. Each file
and directory in this directory will formatted according to
the ISO-9660 specification and copied to a CD-ROM image. After
the formatting this CD-ROM image is written to CD-R disc.
During the formatting process the generator parameters as
specified in the GEAR.INI will be used. There is no need for
extra hard disk space since GEAR uses a so-called virtual
image approach. This means that the extra disk space needed is
only 1-3% of the total space occupied by the files which are
copied to CD-R.
The 'e' option, if present, specifies that the performance of
the computer system must be estimated for writing the given
directory tree to CD-R disc. In case the performance is
sufficient you can write the image to CD-R disc. Otherwise you
can use a disk optimization program to minimize the
fragmentation on your hard disk and estimate again.

hd2cdr <SCSI-ID> <size> [/e]

This command can be used to copy a SCSI hard disk to CD-R. The
parameter SCSI-ID specifies the SCSI id of the hard disk to be
copied. The parameter size specifies the number of Megabytes
to be copied. This must be smaller than 650 MB which is the
maximum size of a CD-R disc.

All information messages and error messages of the software
are displayed on the screen. During the writing of the disc a
minimum of status information is given for performance
reasons. You can redirect these messages to a file with the
standard DOS facilities.

Both utilities use a GEAR.INI and GEAR.MSG file as delivered
with the DOS software. Please see the DOS manual about the
usage of these files.
