SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
_____________________

To install Ultimotion Workshop/2 Beta, you must
have already installed OS/2 2.1 and Multimedia
Presentation Manager/2 (MMPM/2). If you have just
installed MMPM/2, you must shut down and restart
your computer before installing Ultimotion
Workshop/2 Beta.

INSTALLATION
____________

Issue the following commands to install updates to
MMPM/2:

XCOPY e:\MULTIMED\ULTIMOT\MMFIXES d:\MMOS2 /s

where "e" represents your CD-ROM drive and "d" is the drive on which you
have installed MMPM/2.

Complete the following steps to install Ultimotion
Workshop/2 Beta:

1. Start your system.

2. Insert the Ultimotion Workshop/2 Beta CD-ROM
    into the CD-ROM drive.

3. Open the Multimedia folder.

4. Open the Multimedia Install object. The logo
    window appears.

5. Select OK or press Enter. The Ultimotion
    Workshop/2 Beta Installation window appears.

6. Change the SOURCE DRIVE and PATH fields to the
    appropriate drive and directory specifications
    for your installation.

7. In the TARGET DRIVE field, select the drive on
which you installed MMPM/2. All features will
be installed in the \MMOS2 directory.

8. Initially, none of the Ultimotion Workshop/2
Beta features are selected for installation.
In the FEATURES field, select the features you
want to install by clicking on their names
using mouse button 1. For example, select the
feature that supports your video capture
adapter. And if you have a videodisc machine
and want to play and record from videodisc,
    select VIDEODISC.

Be sure you install only the features that
support your video hardware. For example, if
you install a feature that supports a video
capture adapter you do not have, the feature
cannot be used, and it takes up space on your
    machine.

If you change your mind about a feature
selection, you can deselect it by clicking on
its name again. To see all of the features,
use the V key or the mouse to scroll through
the list. Notice that the FEATURES TO INSTALL
field shows the current number of features
    selected.

9. Select INSTALL and follow the instructions in
the subsequent windows to complete the
    installation.

During installation, you can have your
CONFIG.SYS file automatically updated. If you
choose not to have the file updated for you,
the installation program creates a file called
CONFIGCH.NEW and places it in the \MMOS2
directory of the target drive. Use this file
as a reference for modifying your existing
CONFIG.SYS file. You must update the
CONFIG.SYS file of your computer before you
    can use Ultimotion Workshop/2 Beta.

10. Check and see if any of the following files exist
in the d:\MMOS2 subdirectory. (Where "d" is the
drive that multimedia support is installed on.)
And if they do rename the files as follows.

    Old Name: Rename To:
    ----------- --------------
    VIDQVJ1.INI VIDQVJ1$.INI
    VIDSVJ1.INI VIDSVJ1$.INI
    VIDVBC1.INI VIDVBC1$.INI
    VIDVCI1.INI VIDVCI1$.INI
    704E.ADF @704E.ADF
    70CE.ADF @70CE.ADF

11. To activate the Ultimotion Workshop/2 Beta
support after installation, you must shut down
your computer and then restart it. Make sure
the installation program has completed, and
remove any diskettes from the diskette drive.

Do the following to shut down your computer:

    a. Move the mouse pointer to an empty area on
        the OS/2 desktop.
    b. Press mouse button 2.
    c. Click on the SHUTDOWN choice.

WARNING: ALWAYS USE THE SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE
BEFORE TURNING OFF YOUR COMPUTER OR RESTARTING
IT. YOU CAN LOSE INFORMATION IF YOU TURN OFF
    YOUR COMPUTER WITHOUT USING SHUTDOWN.

Restart your computer. The Multimedia folder on
your desktop now includes the Ultimotion
Workshop/2 Beta features you selected.

Refer to the online Ultimotion Workshop/2 Beta
User's Guide located in the Multimedia folder for
detailed information on using the Ultimotion

Creative Labs Video Blaster Users
_________________________________

There is a Beta restriction that requires Video Blaster users to select the
key color in use after each system restart. The procedure is as follows:

1. Open the Digital Video Recorder application found in the Multimedia
    folder.

2. Enable the Monitor Window support in the Options menu.

3. With the monitor window open, select Video Alignment PM
    from the Multimedia folder.
Select options, then key color change. Adjust the key color
so that it matches the background color found in the
monitor window opened with the Digital Video Recorder application.
    Save and exit.

4. It may be necessary to move the monitor window to allow the video
    image to be properly displayed.

Repeat this procedure as required after every system restart.

VIDEODISC SUPPORT
_________________

Ultimotion Workshop/2 provides videodisc support
for Pioneer laserdisc models LD-V4200, LD-V4300D,
LD-V4400, and LD-V8000.

DIGITAL VIDEO SUPPORT
_____________________

The picture quality and performance of the
playback of digital video (.AVI) files is highly
dependent on the machine configuration. Video
clips will play more smoothly on machines with
faster processors, and the quality of the video
picture is better with SVGA or XGA video adapters.
Machine configurations which fall below the
performance requirements of digital video may
exhibit any of the following losses in
presentation quality:

o Loss of smoothness in video playback
o Picture clarity limited to 16 colors on VGA
    displays
o In extreme cases, loss of the audio
    soundtrack.

The minimum memory requirement for playback of
movie files is 7MB. However, 8-12MB is
recommended for better performance.

If you are playing more than one movie clip at a
time, you may receive an error message "Error
Allocating Memory from Heap." If this happens,
add the /H parameter to the following statement in
your CONFIG.SYS file, as follows:

DEVICE=d:\MMOS2\SSMDD.SYS /H:nn

where "d" is the drive on which you installed
MMPM/2, and nn is a number from 32 to 256. The
default is 32. For best results, set nn = 32 x
(the number of movie clips being played). For
example, if you plan on regularly viewing 2 clips
at a time, set nn to 64 (32 x 2).

REAL-TIME RECORDING
___________________

To produce a video output size of 320x240, a
maximum output frame rate of 8 frames per second
is recommended. To produce a video output size of
160x120, a maximum output frame rate of 15 frames
per second is recommended.

A 25MHz 486 system or higher is recommended for
real-time recording. Slower systems can be used
but you must select lower frame rates or a smaller
window size. 12MB of memory is required.

In this Beta, Monitor video is not supported to
display the monitor window during real-time
recording; the monitor window will disappear and
re-appear automatically.

After selecting Record you may experience a
sizeable delay before recording actually begins.

EDITING MOVIE FILES
___________________

Copying from an input movie file that is pasted to
an output movie file will always paste at the
beginning of the output movie file. This does not
occur when pasting within the output file itself.

INDEO DIGITAL VIDEO SUPPORT
___________________________

MMPM/2 supports the playback of .AVI files that
utilize Intel's video compression technique, with
the following limitations:

o Pel-doubling and pel-halving are not supported
(The size of a given video clip cannot be
    changed).
o Video clips cannot be displayed in VGA or
24-bit color video modes. SVGA and XGA modes
    are supported.
o i750 accelerator hardware will not be
    utilized.

TOOLKIT
_______

o VIDVCIT.SYS and VIDVCIT.DLL do not load
    correctly.

o You may experience problems when switching
back and forth between playing the movie file
in the default window and playing the movie
    file in an application-defined window.

o You may experience problems editing the movie
file using the Movie Sample program.

KNOWN LIMITATIONS
_________________

o When recording, the default maximum total data
rate is 100KB per second; a higher rate
    results in higher quality.

o Odd Zoom settings, for example, 3:1, 5:1, and
so on, may fail or hang using SuperVIA cards.

o On some machines with XGA/2 display adapters,
digital video playback may not operate
correctly. The symptoms are a system hang or
audio with no video. Digital video requires
XGA/2 equipped systems to have the "1 MB VRAM
Aperture Base Address" enabled. View the
    configuration and reconfigure your machine
appropriately. If you have 16MB of memory or
more, remove enough to get down to 15MB of
    memory or less.

o If you are using a Video Blaster capture
adapter, 15MB of memory or less is required.

o When saving a movie file to a different drive
(other than the default) it may take a long
period of time. Be sure that all disk
activity has completed before closing the
Digital Video Recorder to avoid corrupting the
    movie file.

o Several temporary files beginning with
00000000 may exist in the \MMOS2 subdirectory.
    These files can be deleted.

o If recorded sound is "scratchy" vary the audio
input level on the audio page in the record
    setup notebook.

o The I/O base address documentation you have
for the WinMovie or QuickVIA capture card may
contain an error - the jumper positions for
I/O address pairs 348-349 and 390-391 may be
    reversed.
