Installation & Upgrade notes for NavCIS Pro, version 1.21.
---------------------------------------------------------
If you are UPGRADING from SE or TE to PRO, YOU MUST read the following
section.

If you are not upgrading, or intend to install NavCIS Pro in a separate,
fresh, directory with new data, jump over the UPGRADE section to the
NEW INSTALL section.

UPGRADING from SE or TE to Pro
==============================
When upgrading from SE or TE to Pro, its important to know the following:

FIRST, Pro will overwrite your current SE or TE program files but not
any data files, and this is fine and proper. You do NOT want to keep
the SE or TE versions available, as they use slightly different data
structures.

SECOND, Pro will convert your current SE/TE data files to the proper Pro
format the first time you run Pro. This will cause a fair amount of
disk activity the first time you run Pro. Thereafter, Pro will not
need to re-structure your data files, and it will load much faster.

WINDOWS UPGRADE: To upgrade the Windows version, run WINSTALL as described
below in the NEW INSTALLATION section, and be sure to specify the SAME
directory that your current NavCIS SE resides in. The SE or TE program
files will be overwritten, which is fine. Your data (messges, catalogs,
e-mail, etc.) will be used by the new version of Pro automatically.

ERRANT "CRASH" RECOVERY: Occassionally, NavCIS Pro 1.21 for Windows will
detect a crash of the data when upgrading from SE or TE to Pro. NavCIS
will recreate the index files and do a complete integrity check on the
data files and then shut itself down. Simply restart NavCIS Pro and
all will be well.

FILE HANDLES MISSING:
Occasionally, rather rarely in fact, you may upgrade to v1.21 and not
be able to open either the Help file or the README file from within
NavCIS. This is caused by a Windows anomoly that causes all the free
file handles to "disappear"... It will also cause -300 and -600 series
errors when you attempt to go online or shut down NavCIS.

Here's what to do if you encounter this: Shut down NavCIS (ignore the
errors you receive, then shut down Windows. Next re-boot your computer.
Upon restarting, the errant file handle anomoly has been removed from
memory and should not recur.

DOS UPGRADE:
This disk only contains the Windows version. If you need the DOS
version, please call Dvorak at 303-661-0345. Or, if you have
registered, you can download the DOS version from LIB 15. It is
called DP121.EXE.

If you did NOT originally place DOS SE or TE into a directory
called x:\NAVCIS, you'll need to manually copy the file DP121.EXE into
your SE / TE directory and execute it. Answer YES to all Overwrite queries.
