FORMATTING DISKS

The MACFORMT utility formats floppy disks in Macintosh 1.44 Mbyte format.

TO FORMAT A MACINTOSH DISK

Type MACFORMT A: or MACFORMT B: at the MS-DOS prompt and press return.

You must specify the drive to be used by letter, even if it is the only

If the disk is already formatted in the high-density format you can
re-initialize it, which is quicker, by typing MACFORMT A: /Q or

The program prompts:

into drive a: and press ENTER

Press return to begin the formatting process.

A status line displays information on the progress of the format. Once
it is complete this prompt allows you to enter a name for the disk.

Enter a name of up to 27 characters, containing any combination of
numbers, letters, spaces, and punctuation marks, and press return.

When formatting is complete this prompt appears:

Enter Y return to format another disk. You will be asked to insert the
new disk. Alternatively, enter N to return to the MS-DOS prompt.
