                        Welcome to CA-TELON PWS 2.3!
                        ----------------------------

This README file contains important information about CA-TELON PWS
release 2.3. Please read this file to learn the latest information
about product installation, operation, and status.

Installing on DOS running SHARE
-------------------------------

A problem in swapping to diskette #2 during installation has been
reported installing under DOS while running the DOS SHARE program. To
avoid the problem, run DOS without SHARE during the installation
process for CA-TELON PWS.

Migration from earlier releases
-------------------------------

To migrate information from earlier releases of CA-TELON PWS, use the
Transport utility supplied with the earlier release to write
information to output files. Then use the Transport utility supplied
with release 2.3 to add the information to the release 2.3 TDF files.

Note to OS/2 users: The LIBPATH setting is OS/2 cannot be changed
dynamically; it must be modified in the OS/2 CONFIG.SYS, and the OS/2
system must then be shut down and restarted. This has the following
implication for migrating from release 2.1 of PWS to release 2.3. The
act of toggling between releases must be done by modifying LIBPATH
(along with other environment changes, such as the PATH setting) and
then restarting OS/2, since releases 2.1 and 2.3 share many .DLL file
names. Attempting to run with both 2.1 and 2.3 in the LIBPATH, in
either order, will not work.

Supported execution environments
--------------------------------

CA-TELON PWS 2.3 is designed to run in the following environments:

1. DOS 5.0 or higher
2. DOS 5.0 or higher under Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher
3. OS/2 2.0 or higher

Note that the product is NOT configured to operated in a DOS box under
OS/2. When running PWS under OS/2, invoke it from a full screen or
windowed OS/2 session.

Loading the Btrieve TSR under MS-DOS
------------------------------------

For MS-DOS, the TNDBPROD environment variable setting is picked up by
the Novell Btrieve TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident) program when the
LOADBT command file is executed. TNDBPROD points to a set of Btrieve
files containing a CA-TELON TDF. When you wish to toggle the setting
and access a different TDF, first change TNDBPROD and then re-run
LOADBT. This will unload the Btrieve TSR and then reload it again with
the new TNDBPROD setting. (Under OS/2, LOADBT is not used, and
changing the TNDBPROD setting is sufficient for switching among TDFs).

Environment settings and the Desktop
------------------------------------

Environment settings (such as SRCEXP and TNDBPROD) must be set before
invoking the CA-TELON Desktop (RUNTLN). Attempting to change these
settings by shelling to the operating system will not work, since the
shelled command processor will have its own environment space. Any
settings that are changed will disappear when you EXIT the command
processor back to the desktop.

Multiple IMPORTs
----------------

The simultaneous IMPORT of multiple CA-TELON programs that share DBD
and PSB information can result in incorrect information being stored on
the TDF, as these entities "collide" in the WIP (Work In Process file).
A solution is being prepared.
