OPTIFonts 80 for 80
===================

This package contains 80 typefaces in the IBM and compatible font
formats of PostScript.

Castcraft Software has taken great care in making these fonts as easy as
possible to install and use.

Font Notes
===========

Due to the size of their character sets, thes font OPTIYale Script is
divided into a basic and supplement font. The basic font includes the
standard character mix; the supplement font contains alternate characters.
Both fonts must be installed into Windows to take advantage of the
expanded character sets.

Installing an OPTIFont
=======================

Note: These instructions assume prior installation and familiarity with
Windows and ATM. Some familiarity with DOS (copy command, paths, etc...)
is also assumed. ATM will also need to be "on".

Windows OPTIFont Installation Instructions Using ATM 2.0 or Later
====================================================================

1) Backup the win.ini file in the windows sub-directory.

2) Start Windows and open the Main group window in the Program Manager.

3) Double-click the ATM Control Panel icon :

a) Click on the Add button.

b) In the Directories List box, double-click on the drive that contains
the fonts you wish to install. You must now navigate to the directory
that contains the desired fonts.

c) The OPTIFont appears in the Available Fonts list box. Select the font
and click Add.

4) Click on the Exit button. ATM has copied the .pfb and .pfm for this
OPTIFont to the default target directories for PostScript outline fonts
and font metric files respectively. It also updates the win.ini file.

5) If you are using ATM version 2.0 or later, you will see a dialog
box appear asking you whether to restart Windows or return to the
current Windows session. You must click the Restart Windows button to
use the newly added OPTIFont. The OPTIFont installation is now complete.

Windows OPTIFont Installation Instructions Using ATM Versions Earlier
========================================================================
 Than 2.0
==========

If you are using a version earlier than 2.0 of ATM, you will need to
modify the win.ini file. Versions of ATM prior to version 2.0 added only
the path to the .pfm without adding the path to the .pfb.

For every printer you installed during Windows installation, or installed
later with the Printers Control Panel, an entry for this printer is made
in the win.ini file. For example, our win.ini file has the following lines:

[PostScript,LPT1]
feed1=1
feed15=1
softfonts=1
softfont1=c:\psfonts\pfm\opfobl__.pfm,c:\psfonts\opfobl__.pfb

ATM adds a softfont entry for each ACTIVE POSTSCRIPT printer entry in the
win.ini file. This line signifies the path to the .pfm file for this font
(NOTE: This path is the Target directory discussed in step 4 above).

To complete the OPTIFont installation, you will need to append a "," (comma),
followed by the path to the .pfb to the line that ATM added to each
active PostScript printer entry in the win.ini file. The easiest way to do
this is to use Windows Notepad to open the win.ini file and use the search
command to search for every instance of the .pfm file name for the font you
wish to install.

For example, after installing OPTILignier Caps on our machine using the
ATM Control Panel, we opened the win.ini file with Notepad. The above lines
in our win.ini file changed to the following:

[PostScript,LPT1]
feed1=1
feed15=1
softfonts=2
softfont1=c:\psfonts\pfm\opfobl__.pfm,c:\psfonts\opfobl__.pfb
softfont2=c:\psfonts\pfm\oplcs___.pfm

ATM added the line "softfont2=c:\psfonts\pfm\oplcs___.pfm" to the win.ini
file. We need to add to this line the path to the .pfb. In our case, we
keep our .pfb in c:\psfonts. After typing the modification, this is what
our win.ini file looks like:

[PostScript,LPT1]
feed1=1
feed15=1
softfonts=2
softfont1=c:\psfonts\pfm\opfobl__.pfm,c:\psfonts\opfobl__.pfb
softfont2=c:\psfonts\pfm\oplcs___.pfm,c:\psfonts\oplcs___.pfb

Save the win.ini file, exit Notepad, and restart windows. The OPTIFont
is now ready to use.

SPECCHAR.WRI
=============

The SPECCHAR.WRI is provided as a quick and easy reference tool. Since
the character sets may vary from font to font, it is important to know
the location of each character contained in the font. The document is
organized into two columns. The first column shows the ANSI position for
a particular character. The second column shows the actual character
that will be displayed when the ANSI number is entered.

How To Use the SPECCHAR.WRI
============================

1) Copy the SPECCHAR.WRI to the Windows directory of your hard disk.

2) Start Windows and open the Accessories group window in the Program
Manager.

3) Open the Write application by double clicking on the Write icon.

4) Choose the menu item called File. Pull down to the Open selection.

5) Another window will appear with the Filename selection highlighted.
In the Filename box *.wri will be highlighted. Click OK.

6) Under the section of the window titled Files, all the documents with
the extension .wri will be shown. Double click on the SPECCHAR.WRI.

7) The SPECCHAR.WRI template will open in the window. This template is
set in Helvetica. Place the pointer at the beginning of the character 0
(the first character in the left column) and highlight the entire document
until you reach the last character of the right column (255). Go to the
Character menu and choose the Fonts selection. Select the font you wish
displayed on the SPECCHAR.WRI. At the top of the SPECCHAR.WRI there is a
heading that may be edited to display the font name for the character set
you are viewing. You may wish to print this document for future reference.

8) When you exit Write it is recommended that you do not save the changes
to the SPECCHAR.WRI. This will ensure that the template format will remain
intact.
