Terry,

CIS does not publish partial/full lists of subscribers. Junk mailers would be
over the top if they did. You also can't get lists of users by location, zip
(postal) code, etc.

You can find individuals by name unless they have opted to be unlisted but
that is about it.

Andy,

The forum software resets the HMN on exit from the forum, I don't know
of a command to change this though there well may be one. If a blink
fails at some point during the download then it is unlikely that the
HMN for the current forum would be reset, any messages already
retrieved would be duplicated during the next blink.

On exit, CSNav will reset the HMN to whatever it was before the blink
started, but the forum software resets it to the last message retrieved
and then CSNav changes it back to what it was <g>.

I would like a WW option to reset the HMN to the last message
downloaded on entering the forum. This seems to me the method least
likely to lose messages.

Hi Jim,

Is there a script to "get all missing messages after a date">>

There is a script for retrieving messages for last nn number of days,
but it would probably be easier to reset the HMN to the first/last
message posted on a particular date by using the "set high message
number" script.

Also, I believe there is a script for retrieving a specific message,
i.e., 8700, but I don't have it.

<<And losing messages *I* certainly am.>>

If you are downloading "headers" you are unless you have a fantastic
memory. I don't download headers except for forums/section where I am
looking for specific information, such as video cards using S3 chips,
etc.

I've just started trying to use WW2. I notice that on retrieving a
bunch of messages from a forum there seems to be no consistent
treatment of orphans. Some of the time they appear with an ellipsis
before the number (obviously an orphan=good), sometimes they are just
in bold, and sometimes they are not only in bold but have the folder
icon (which I presume means a root message) too.

What is going on?

if they have 3 elipses at the start then they are orphans, the linking
information is there but you don't have the parent.

if they look like orphans to you dut don't have elipses then the parent
has scrolled off and the linking information isn't there.

Bold = it's the root of a new thread, locally at least.

Folder icon = message has replies.

ellipsis = reply, but parent message not available.

There are several reasons why the parent may not be available; the
sender deleted it, the sysop moved it to another section, HMN tracking
up the creek or, usually, it has scrolled off. (Using another program
to read messages can play merry hell with the HMN)

This last one (scrolling) doesn't seem to happen now, with the new
forum software CIS have deemed it unnecessary to send the parent number
of a message if that parent has scrolled off, so that is the cause of
some of the 'roots' that are obviously replies. PITA. Another cause is
some people replying to messages using 'compose' instead of 'reply'.

Any help?

Now, is there any way to tell WW to go off and get me the parent to one

that it has gone forever?

FWIW, I've run into a little bug. When you first start up WW2, there is
not officially a "service" selected. No problem. However, if you try to
"view service forums" before the selection of a service, you get a GPF.
After selection, though, no problem.

I think you can do it with the 'get all on subject' script, but you
might get more than you bargained for if it's a large thread. Or you
can go into the section message base file (the one without an
extension) with a word processor, find the 'orphan' message and in the
header will be the number of the 'parent'. Then use the 'get a
particular message' script. I've never used either of these myself, but
I think they are OK.

BTW, _don't_ save the file from the word processor! WW will sulk if you
do<g>
