I'm looking for a VESA local bus graphics card that can handle 1024x768
non-interlaced in 64K colours or more, and is still exceptional enough
when running DOS apps or games. I was looking at the Diamond Viper, but
I'm under the impression that it runs DOS software rather slowly.

Raymond

I have a Diamond Viper and I can say this:

1 It runs Windows VERY fast

2 In DOS, I've had no problems. My ganes include Strike Commander, TFX
and Rebel Assault (all graphics intensive).

If you're still not sure, I have heard that one or two of the Cirrus
Logic-based cards are optimised for DOS ganes.

Nick,

Thanks for your comments about the Viper. I have a Cirrus Logic 5426,
but since I have not seen any other cards running on a similar system
to mine then I cannot vouch for it's speed, though I can say it is fast
enough under Windows, but flickers (argh!) under 1024x768 @ 64K
colours. I assume that the Viper does not.. !?
Someone else has pointed out that Diamond's Stealth 32 is quite
impressive under both DOS and Windows. Do you know anything about this
?!

thanks again,

I'm looking for a simulation software that can act as electronic lab
and perform simulated experiments. I have been using SPICE, but I think
it is too old and it is not graphical oriented. Does anyone get any
idea which software in the market is the best and latest? It is more
preferable if the software is Windows-based.

We are considering a package called 'Sage Sterling Accounts for
Windows'. This is a Windows accounts package. What we really want is
for it to generate quotations, which could then be accepted and
transformed into sales orders. Does anybody know if it does this or
not, please? Or perhaps there is a third party package that would
generate the quote?

The Sage package has the customer and product databases, and so should
logically be able to produce quotes as well as orders.

Thanks,

I'm looking for some form of removable mass storage, and my two most
reasonable options appear to be Iomega Vernoulli disks or SyQuest
cartridges. Can anyone tell me the advantages/disadvantages of each, or
of personal experiences with either that would make me want to or not
want to buy one of them?

I can only really refer you to my comparitive review (PC Plus issue 82
July 93 p300). I've used both and both work well. Bernoullis are
theoretically more robust wrt head crashes. Syquist appear to be
cheaper and offer a battery-powered portable 105mb drive (see brief
encounter in issue 92 May 94, p249).

Prices in this market place seem to relate to what the market will bear
- so change frequently, which may affect value judgements. The Syquist
drives dropped in price just before my issue 82 review and the
Bernoullis plummetted some time afterwards.....

I prefer generic SCSI cards such as the Adaptec 1540 to specialised
cards supplied with drives.

transscripts of articles available on line? And if they are, how do I
