Notes on Windows for Workgroups v3.11 and 3Com Adapters
=======================================================

In a few situations, after installation of WFWG, the client still
will not be able to communicate with any other device on the network.

In this case, follow the instructions below to modify the config.sys
file.

Already there should be an entry for ifshlp.sys, before this line,
enter...

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\PROTMAN.DOS /I:C:\WINDOWS
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\card's_driver.DOS

After the line for ifshlp.sys, enter...

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\NDISHLP.SYS

Reboot the machine.

Note: PCMCIA Adapters
=====================
Customers using the EtherLink III PCMCIA (3C589) cards, should be made
aware that the CIS Memory address is selected by the card's Config program
at the time of configuration. To find out which address the card is using,
insert the EtherDisk and run the Configuration and Diagnostics Program.

Select Adapter Information under the View menu item and lookup the address
the card is using for CIS Memory, for example DF00-DFFF. Write down this
address.

In the Network Setup program in WFWG 3.11, select Drivers, highlight the
3Com EtherLink III PCMCIA and select Setup.

Make sure the I/O address is correct and select the Advanced item from
the menu. There are three settings to change, Adapter Slot, Max Transmits
and Memory. Click the mouse button on the Memory option. At the bottom
of the screen, the value for memory can be selected by clicking on the UP
or the DOWN arrow boxes. Select the memory address being used by the card,
as noted earlier. Click on SET and exit by clicking on the OK button.

The information will then be saved and the user should reset the PC for the
changes to take effect.
