============================================================
1. CHANGES TO THE INSTALLATION PROGRAM
============================================================

The installation program no longer installs the ODI files in
the root directory of the drive from which your workstation
boots (usually drive C:).

============================================================
2. USING THIS PRODUCT WITH VLM DRIVERS
============================================================

The product is designed to take advantage of Novell's
VLM client technology. The VLM client software replaces
the NETX shell and its associated MS Windows files.
The installation program no longer installs the NETX
client software.

If you intend to connect your workstation to NetWare
servers, you should install the VLM client software
before you install the LAN WorkPlace software.

When you install the VLM client software first, the
LAN WorkPlace installation will use the NET.CFG file
that the VLM client installation program creates.

If you choose not to install the VLM client software, the
LAN WorkPlace installation program does the following:

- If your workstation has a version of LAN WorkPlace
  earlier than 4.2 installed on it, the installation
  creates a directory named NWCLIENT in the \NET
  directory (\NET\NWCLIENT), reuses the existing NET.CFG
  file, and places it and the ODI files in the NWCLIENT
  directory.

- If your workstation does NOT have an earlier version of
  LAN WorkPlace installed on it, the installation program
  creates a directory named \NET\NWCLIENT, copies the ODI
  files to the directory, and creates a new NET.CFG file
  in the directory.

- If the previous version of LAN WorkPlace is in the root
  directory of the boot drive (normally drive C:), the
  program removes the following files from the root
  directory:

       LSL.COM
       ODI lan driver
       IPXODI.COM
       NETX.COM
       NET.CFG
       YESNO.EXE
       LANWP.BAT.

4. USING XPC IN AN MS WINDOWS DOS BOX
============================================================

When XPC is used with some memory manager setups, it issues
repeated erroneous messages like the following:

	<garbage/happy faces>mapsave failed

If you experience this problem run the XPC command with the
-c option:

	XPC -c<Enter>

4. NEW FEATURES
============================================================

The LAN WorkPlace 4.2 product contains the following new
features:

1. The SLIP_PPP driver now appears in the MLID list. This
   prevents multiple ODI drivers from being installed.

   If you use your computer exclusively from remote
   locations, you can install and configure the SLIP_PPP
   driver without first specifying another LAN ODI driver.

   Install always copies the slip_ppp.com driver to
   \NET\BIN directory.

2. The installation program uses your existing net.cfg file.

   During installation, if you select ISA MLID that is
   already configured in your NET.CFG file, the installation
   program highlights the configured INT or PORT address
   instead of the factory defaults.

3. The installation program uses your existing hosts file.

4. The installation program no longer uses DIX as the
   default CONNECTOR type for the 3C503 card. The program
   comments out the CONNECTOR parameter line in the NET.CFG
   file.

5. The installation program asks you all configuration
   questions (such as MLID, IP address) before actually
   installing the software. This provides you with an
   opportunity to proceed with the installation or to
   cancel it after you have answered all of the questions,
   but before your hard disk has been modified.

6. The installation program works with MS-DOS with the
   language set to Belgium.
