Installation
============

Workstation
-----------
Workstation installation does not require the user password.

If you don't let the SETUP program modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT file
to add the cc:Mail program path to your PATH environment
variable, make sure you make this modification yourself after
installing cc:Mail. Ask your cc:Mail administrator if you're
not sure how to make this change.

If you see a warning during installation telling you that the
FILES setting in your CONFIG.SYS file is inadequate for cc:Mail,
modify CONFIG.SYS so that FILES=30 (or more). Ask your cc:Mail
administrator if you're not sure how to make this change.

Post Office
-----------
If you're upgrading from a Level 5 post office (cc:Mail for
MS-DOS, Version 3.15 or earlier), you MUST:

1) Run Version 3.15 of CHKSTAT and RECLAIM to verify the
integrity of your database before upgrading your post office
2) Back up your database before upgrading your post office

VIM
---
If you received a warning during installation that you have an
invalid set of VIM files, you can copy the following files from
the Windows Platform Pack Program and PO Install Disk 1 to your
cc:Mail program-files directory to correct the situation:

    CCEDIT.DLL
    CCSMI.DLL
    CCUTIL.DLL
    CDVIM.DLL
    CHARSET.DLL
    MAILENG.DLL
    MEMMAN.DLL
    SMI.DLL
    VIM.DLL

Compatibility
=============

Conflict with Sun-NFS
---------------------
If your workstation has two network cards and one of your
connections is to a Sun-NFS, you could experience minor problems
when running cc:Mail for Windows, Version 2.0.

To avoid these problems, disable the Sun-NFS either manually or
in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file before you start Windows.

Launching Ami Pro, Version 3.0, from cc:Mail
--------------------------------------------
If you want to launch Ami Pro 3.0 from cc:Mail using the Ami Pro
icon button, you need to edit the LOTUS.INI file first, as
described next.

1) Use any text editor to open LOTUS.INI (stored in your Windows
   subdirectory).
2) Locate the [Lotus Applications] section.
3) Locate the following string: AMIPRO=C:\AMIPRO.
4) Add "\AMIPRO.EXE" to the end of the string so it looks like
   this:

   AMIPRO=C:\AMIPRO\AMIPRO.EXE

5) Save LOTUS.INI.

Working with Containers
=======================

When you delete folders containing many (100 or more)
messages, you won't see a progress update while the messages are
deleted, but you will see a progress message while the folder
itself is deleted.

Customizing cc:Mail for Windows
===============================

Customizing the cc:Mail Interface
---------------------------------
You can customize the cc:Mail interface for your users at any
time, even if you've already installed cc:Mail on your users'
workstations.

1) Follow the instructions in the Getting Started Guide to
customize the cc:Mail interface and rules features.
2) Next, reinstall cc:Mail on your users' workstations. When
you see the Reinstallation Options dialog box, choose Update
Existing Directory to add your configuration to the existing
configuration. Choose Overwrite Existing Directory to
overwrite all configuration options that have been
individually set with the custom configuration you have set
   (or with the default configuration).

See the cc:Mail for Windows User's Guide for more information on
reinstalling the workstation software.

DDE Macros
==========

The WINMACRO.ZIP file includes a number of sample macros
(including the sample macro from the cc:Mail for Windows User's
Guide) that show how to enable DDE with various third-party
products. This file is posted on the cc:Mail Technical Support
Bulletin Board (415-691-0401 [8-N-1]).

MS-DOS Administrative Utilities, Version 4.02
=============================================

Version 4.02 of the administrative utilities contains all fixes
and enhancements implemented in Version 4.01.

Color Palettes
--------------
The correct name of the monochrome color palette is either
MONONEW.PAL or MONOOLD.PAL. Additionally, you can use
a third color VGA palette by specifying the name DEVELOP.PAL.

DIALIN Modem-Speed Override
---------------------------
In the DIALIN program, you cannot override a modem-speed (bps)
parameter that you specified in the configuration file with one
that you specify on the command line. If you intend to
use a different modem speed frequently with the DIALIN program,
don't specify it in the configuration file.

NPODOWN Functionality
---------------------
NPODOWN works only on NOVELL networks.

New RECLAIM Feature
-------------------
The /RENUM switch corrects the situation of slow response
when resynching a user's bulletin board counts to the user
number. Previously, a large gap was left in the 'L'ocal
user's USR numbers. The /RENUM option corrects this
by renumbering the USR files to eliminate this gap,
allowing more contiguous USR file numbers, which allows much
quicker access times and resynching. This process is not
without a price however, since it can often consume several
    hours.

Version 4.02 Fixes
------------------
    NPODOWN.EXE
    	- Shuts down the post office correctly for NetWare 3.11.
	- Shuts down the post office at the announced time.
	- Broadcasts the correct message for notification of post
          office shutdown.
	- Allows non-supervisor-level to run NPODOWN.

          current path.

    ADMIN.EXE
        - You can now change users from (R)emote to (L)ocal.

          characters above 127.
        - Correct screen deinitialization upon exit.
	- Correctly displays all items after creation of new
          post office.
	- Displays correct item when changing password.

    CHKSTAT.EXE
        - Discrepancies between operation of CHKSTAT & RECLAIM
          have been resolved.
        - Properly handles a numeric in the first character of
          the user name.

    RECLAIM.EXE
        - Discrepancies between operation of CHKSTAT & RECLAIM
          have been resolved.

        - Properly handles target paths longer than 22
          characters.
	- Corrective action is now available for large gaps in
user numbers. See the "New RECLAIM Feature" section
          for details.
	- Renames databases only after all command-line
          parameters have parsed correctly.

    CCBACKUP.EXE
    	- Truncates target files before writing to them.
