1.0  ELECTRONIC DELIVERY
========================
     Your electronic delivery package contains the following:

     o  A READUP.TXT file (this document).

     o A USD631.EXE executable file that creates these files:
        -- USD631.DSK, the first diskette image file
        -- LOADDSKF.EXE, the diskette image utility
        -- LICENSE.TXT, the licensing agreement for LOADDSKF

        The LOADDSKF diskette image utility is used to create the
        PC DOS 6.1 to 6.3 Upgrade diskettes (1 to 5).

     o Four diskette images named USD632.DSK through USD635.DSK.

     Refer to Section 4.0 to create your 3-1/2" high density
     diskettes from the five images.

2.0  BEFORE YOU BEGIN
=====================
  - You must have PC DOS Version 6.1 installed on your hard drive
     prior to installing this 6.1 to 6.3 Upgrade (hereafter referred
     to as Upgrade). If you attempt to install over any
     other DOS version, you will get an error message informing
     you that this Upgrade cannot be used. If PC DOS 6.1 is not
     found on your system, the files will not be copied over.

  - The individual files on the diskettes have been disabled.
     Only the Upgrade setup installation process will enable these
     files prior to installing them onto your system; therefore,
     do not use DOS files directly from these Upgrade diskettes.

  - If you are a LAN administrator:
     -- In order to do an administrator installation (SETUP /A),
        an existing PC DOS 6.1 administrator installation
        directory must exist and you must install into this
        directory.
     -- You cannot use SETUP /A to install to a new directory.

  - After you upgrade to Version 6.3:
     -- This product can also be used to re-install Version 6.3
         or reselect optional tools, such as IBM AntiVirus/DOS.
     -- You should refer to the README.TXT file found on the
         last diskette for additional product information.

3.0  LICENSE AGREEMENT
======================
     By using this program, you agree to the following terms
     and conditions:

  - You must be a current licensee of PC DOS Version 6.1.

  - You are allowed to install the same number of PC DOS 6.1
     to 6.3 Upgrades as equals the number of copies of PC DOS
     Version 6.1 you are currently authorized to use.

  - All other terms and conditions of the PC DOS Version 6.1
     license apply; however, this does not extend any warranty
     or service obligations outlined in such agreement.

NOTE: For Service information, refer to your PC DOS Version 6.1
        User's Guide (inside front cover).

4.0 HOW TO CREATE THE DISKETTE IMAGES
======================================
     To create the diskette images:

     1. Have five blank, 3-1/2 inch high-density formatted
         diskettes available and create a diskette label for
         each diskette such as:

               PC DOS 6.1 to 6.3 Upgrade diskette #

         where:
                 # = The number of the diskette you are creating,
                     (in this case number 1 through number 5).

     2. Go to the directory where you placed the PC DOS 6.1 to
         6.3 Upgrade files.

     3. At the DOS command prompt, type:

             USD631

         A license agreement is displayed.

     4. Answer Yes (Y) to accept the terms and conditions of
         the licensing agreement or answer No (N) to cancel.

         By accepting the terms of this agreement, the first
         diskette image (USD631.DSK) is created.

     5. Insert a blank formatted diskette into your 3-1/2 inch
         drive (A or B).

     6.  Type:   LOADDSKF USD63#.DSK drive

         where:
               # = The number of the diskette you are creating,
                     (in this case number 1 through number 5).

             drive = Your drive A or B.

     7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each diskette image.

5.0 HOW TO MAKE ADDITIONAL UPGRADE DISKETTES COPIES
====================================================
     Use the DOS DISKCOPY command or you can follow the
     instructions provided in section 4.0 above to make additional
     copies of the Upgrade diskettes per your license agreement
     (refer to section 4.0 above).

NOTE:
     Optionally, you can delete the diskette images, the USD631.EXE
     file, and the appropriate LOADDSKF files after you have
     successfully upgraded to PC DOS Version 6.3 to save disk space.

6.0 HOW TO INSTALL THE 6.1 TO 6.3 UPGRADE
==========================================
     To install the Upgrade:

     1. Insert diskette 1 of the Upgrade diskettes into drive A or B

     2. At the DOS command prompt, type:
                a:setup
        or
                b:setup

     3. Follow the same installation procedure for the Upgrade
        as you did for PC DOS 6.1.

     4. Any optional tools you selected for PC DOS 6.1 must
        be reinstalled for PC DOS 6.1 to upgrade to the
        PC DOS 6.3 version.

     5. Follow the instructions displayed on your screen to
        complete the installation.

7.0  GENERAL (AFFECTED UTILITIES)
=================================

7.1  The EXPAND Command
     ------------------
     EXPAND cannot be used to expand executable (.EXE or .COM)
     files from the PC DOS 6.1 to 6.3 Upgrade diskettes. If you
     need to recopy a compressed file using the EXPAND command,
     you must reinstall the PC DOS Upgrade to recover the
     executable file.

7.2  Central Point Backup
     ---------------------
     If you have a Future Domain SCSI Host Adapter Card, you will need
     to contact Future Domain at the address provided below to obtain
     controllers to work with PC DOS Central Point Backup.
         Future Domain Corporation
         Customer Service Department
         2801 McGaw Avenue
         Irvine, CA  92714
         Phone:  714/253-0440
         FAX:    714/253-0913

8.0 CORRECTIONS TO THE 6.3 DOCUMENTATION
=========================================

8.1 Addstor Compression Programs SuperStor and SuperStor PRO
     ---------------------------------------------------------
     If you currently compressed your disks using prior versions of
     Addstor's SuperStor or SuperStor PRO, we suggest you backup
     this data, uninstall, and then install PC DOS's Version 6.3
     data compression (SuperStor/DS) instead.

8.2  The MOUSE command
     -----------------
     The following switches are not valid as documented in the
     PC DOS 6.3 Command Reference:
     -- /E, /F, /Q, and /K
     -- /Mn (where n is replaced by a number) is
        only valid as /M

     In addition, disregard the note about placing the mouse into
     upper memory.

8.3 Phone Number for IBM AntiVirus/DOS Technical Support
     ----------------------------------------------------
     If you select Help from the IBM AntiVirus/DOS Options menu
     and then select Contacts, the area code for the technical
     support number was incorrectly specified as 817. The technical
     support number for the U.S. should be (800) 237-5511.

9.0  WHAT'S NEW TO PC DOS 6.3
=============================
     PC DOS Version 6.3 provides the following enhanced features:

     o A new interactive boot allows you to confirm each
         statement in your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files.
         You press F8 immediately at system initialization.

     o A new key combination of CTRL+F8 at system
         initialization allows you to bypass the loading of
         the DBLSPACE.BIN file and be prompted to confirm each
         statement in your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files.

     o A new switch (/Y) has been added to the COMMAND
         command to allow you to step through a batch file.

         enhanced to prompt you before overwriting
         files that have identical file names.

     o The CHKDSK, DIR, FORMAT, and MEM commands have been
         enhanced to display the country thousands separator.

         prompt by being able to turn the separator on or off.
