The following is an overview of system notes and highlights of changes
made up to and including Edition 7. These changes are not reflected in the
printed reference manual; however, the online reference help is current
and you can refer to it for more detailed information.

* USING PROJECT WORKBENCH WITH OS/2
  These are the suggested settings for PWW users running under OS/2 2.1.

     All setttings should be set to default except:

	DOS_HIGH                 ON
	DOS_UMB                  ON
	WIN_RUN_MODE             3.1 ENHANCED
	EMS_MEMORY_LIMIT         2048
	XMS_MEMORY_LIMIT         2048
	DPMI_MEMORY_LIMIT        64MB

  OS/2 creates a 2-8 MB swap file on the drive where the OS/2 system res-
  ides. Check your system configuration for the specific size and make sure
  this space is available. It is a good idea to close unused applications
  to conserve memory.

* SYSTEM CONFIGURATION

    SHARE.EXE:
    If you are using Windows version 3.1 or later, SHARE.EXE is not re-
    quired and should not be loaded separately. The only instance in
    which SHARE.EXE must be loaded is if you are using a version of DOS
    earlier than 4.0.

    WINDOWS SWAP FILE:
    The use of a permanent as opposed to a temporary Windows swap file
    is generally recommended in order to improve system efficiency.
    However, if you are using an on-the-fly data compression utility like
    Stacker, a permanent swap file configured in uncompressed memory MUST be
    used.

* MOVING FROM DOS TO WINDOWS
  For upgrade users, the new guide, MOVING FROM DOS TO WINDOWS, covers all
  major Project Workbench for DOS operations and gives the equivalent
  Project Workbench for Windows commands and keystrokes.

* VIEW LIBRARIES
  Several Libraries have been included to fulfill the diverse
  needs of our clients. Each library contains views that key
  in to a particular facet of managing a project.

  For example, the Standard Library is an excellent place to
  start working with Project Workbench. These views are designed
  for the entry and maintenance of project data.

  The Team Library is intended to help each team member review
  his schedules and enter actuals.

  Project Managers and Executives have very different needs and
  there are libraries for them, as well. Project analysis is the
  focus of these libraries, whether for one project or many.

  For our users who "feel at home" with the Analyzer reports
  from Project Workbench 3.1, we've included a library with
  views similar to those reports.

These libraries are located in sub-directories named STD, TEAM,
PMGR, EXEC, and PW31.

* EFFICIENCY
  The system will respond more efficiently, if:

    - Views are closed (not just minimized) when no longer in use.
    - The number of time periods is limited for tabulated views.
    - Unnecessary Highlights are not defined.
      (Especially periodic highlights)

  If you work with larger projects, you may want to consider
  the following options to improve efficiency:

    - Increase the amount of memory (RAM) in the PC to 8 Mb.
    - Operate on a high-end 386 or 486 PC.

* VIDEO MODES SUPPORTED
  Super VGA (1024 x 768) is not fully supported at this time.
  EGA, XGA, and 8514/a are not supported.

* DEPENDENCIES
  You may define predecessor and successor tasks via the Dependency Link
  dialog box. Additionally a new feature, the Fastlink box, allows
  you to quickly and easily make and break dependency links in any view
  except the CPM view which already has its own provisions for creating
  links.

  To activate the Fastlink box, simply select any valid task or task
  ID with your cursor and press F9. An Action Palette button is also avail-
  able. For more information about this powerful new feature see the online
  help or press F1 when the box is on screen.

* GROUPS
  File Save As is available for groups. You may use File Save As to save
  every project in a group to a different directory without having to
  save each project individually.

* COVER PAGE SUMMARY FOR REPORTS
  Report printing now includes an optional cover page that summarizes
  project definition, highlight settings, and sort and filter options for
  the report.

* ADDED FLEXIBILITY FOR FORMATTING DATA ELEMENTS
  Three new options are available for formatting data elements:
  - Percent -- Usage is displayed as a percentage of the resource's total
                availability.
  - As Is -- The As Is option permits Cost and Qty values to be displayed
               in views that also contain usage expressed in Days and Hours.
  - Per Week -- Resource availability can now be expressed in terms of
                 days, hours, and quantity per week.

* PRINT RANGE
  The "Print:" dialog box now allows you to more accurately select the
  range of data you wish to print from a view. In all spreadsheet views the
  print range is now selected by rows instead of pages and in the CPM net-
  work view the print range can now be defined in terms of rows and columns.

* NEGATIVE VALUES FOR HISTOGRAMS
  Histograms now accept negative values. The histogram will display negative
  values as a bar below the horizontal axis.

* FIND DATA IN CPM NETWORK VIEWS
  The Edit Find command permits you to search for project data in CPM
  Network views.

* DDE
  Project Workbench now supports Dynamic Data Exchange with other
  applications. This new feature allows you to paste data into other appli-
  cations that support DDE and have that data dynamically updated each
  time it changes in Project Workbench. For more information please see the
  online help.

                Note: At this time DDE is NOT supported for the CPM
                      network view.

* PASTING RESOURCE ABBREVIATIONS
  You cannot paste a resource abbreviation from the Clipboard into a project
  that already contains that resource abbreviation. However, you may define
  a new abbreviation for a resource, then use this to paste project data
  into projects containing the resource's original abbreviation.

* RANGE SELECT IN CPM VIEW
  Project Workbench now allows you to select a range of tasks to operate on
  in the CPM Network View. As in other views, hold down the left mouse but-
  ton and move your cursor until the tasks you want to select are high-
  lighted.

                              *NOW AVAILABLE*

The Project Workbench Interface to Microsoft Project 3.0 is now available
FREE to all customers. This new utility allows you to convert your Microsoft
Project files to a format that you can use in Project Workbench. Please con-
tact the ABT Hotline at 212/219-2448 to receive your copy of the interface.
