Print Artist 2.0 (TM)
Last Minute Info

-----------------

This document contains information about frequently asked questions
concerning Print Artist 2.0 for DOS.

1. Error message "Too Many Fonts or Graphics". There is a limit to how
many graphics Print Artist 2.0 can make available (about 3,500). You
must go to the Setup screen and disable some. The most typical case of
this is if you have thousands of New Print Shop graphics, most of which
you probably don't use. If you need a few graphics from these
directories, copy the needed ones to a separate directory and then use
Setup... (available by pressing the F5 key in the Select Document Type
window when you first start up Print Artist) to point to the new
directory.

2. If Print Artist takes a long time to load, this is because it is
registering all of the available graphics before opening. The more
graphics you have available, the longer it will take. If this is
bothersome, you can go to Setup and disable graphics that you will not
be needing.

3. Print Artist requires about 512K of free conventional memory to run.
The program will inform you if there is not enough memory to run.

4. Some bitmapped graphics (such as BMP, GIF, TIFF or PCX images) that
contain 256 colors will print by using a more limited number of colors.

5. If you get a message telling you that you are "Out of near memory",
you may need to simplify your document and/or use fewer PostScript Type
1 fonts.

6. Print Artist does not automatically support nonstandard (not 8.5 x 11)
tractor feed paper sources (for example, continuous business card or
phone index card stock). If you are able to fit more than one business
card on a standard size document, you might have luck manually aligning
them to fit the cardstock you are using. Often, special stock length is
evenly divisible by 11 inches, so you could fool the program into
thinking it is dealing with regular tractor-feed paper and get the job
done.

7. The Print Artist program has a limit of 1200 vertices per polygon.
TrueType or PostScript Type 1 font characters are allowed only one
polygon, so the entire character must have no more than 1200 points.
Furthermore, curve splines in the font data are broken up into separate
points along the curve. There are very few fonts that can't work with
Print Artist (for example, a complicated font with a wood-cut effect, or
with frilly vines creeping in and out of the letters), but in future
versions of Print Artist this limit may be raised.

8. Here's a neat little trick: When inserting a new graphic with the
"All" category selected, all your graphics are listed alphabetically.
Ever wonder which category contains a certain graphic? To find out,
press the spacebar twice, and the graphic will be shown in its proper
category.
