Welcome to PC AutoStore!

Several features were added to PC AutoStore after the documentation went to
press. These features or error messages make things easier for you, the user,
to work with the software. The following sections describe the changes and
additions in more detail.

New Features
------------

Help!

A Help button is available in all error messages and dialog boxes. Click on
the Help button anytime you're curious about a feature or error message (or
just need Help).

Color or Black & White?

The first time you run PC AutoStore, it asks you if you have a black and white
or color monitor. Select the appropriate response. You are taken through a
series of display tests (Do you see a color? and so on).

Once you have selected a display type, you will not see the prompt again. If
you need to change the display mode, type MTEXEC -c at the command line.

COM Port Already In Use

When you specify a COM port for PC AutoStore, it detects if that port is in
use by another device. When you attempt to read or write to the port,
PC AutoStore displays a warning, such as "Port in use by MOUSE program."
Select Configure to change the COM port used by PC AutoStore. Select Force
if you want PC AutoStore to use the port anyway.

New Messages

You will see the message "Waiting for Scanner to respond..." when you start a
read or write and the Scanner is either not connected properly or turned on.
You can occasionally see this message when the software is getting synch-
ronized with the Scanner. Simply connect the Scanner or turn it on to
continue.

If the Scanner display does not say "Enter Function" PC AutoStore displays
"Scanner is Busy...."

If you abort the limits write, the Scanner may lock up. Turn the Scanner off
and back on to restore the original limits.

Error Messages
--------------

PC AutoStore contains several new error messages in addition to those found
in Appendix B.

  Command Line Error Messages

    Communications error with Scanner.
An error occurred within the low-level PC communications routines while
attempting communications to the Scanner. Retry the operation; if the
error persists, call Microtest Technical Support.

    Connect Scanner to COMn
The PC is not detecting a Scanner connected on the specified communica-
tions port. Check that you have specified the correct COM port, the
Scanner is power on, and the communications parameters are set correctly.

    Error in initializing communications.
An error occurred within the PC's low-level communications routines when
attempting to access the communications port. Retry the operation; if
the error persists, call Microtest Technical Support.

This Scanner has Flash revision version x.xx.
The Scanner must be updated to at least revision version x.xx to use
      this program. Reflash Scanner.

The program memory in the Scanner, called Flash memory, is out of
revision. You must upgrade the Scanner to use PC AutoStore. Follow the
procedure outlined in the Operator's Manual shipped with this product.

Waiting for Scanner on COMn to respond.
The Scanner is not responding to commands from the PC. Check that the
Scanner is turned on. You may need to change the Auto Shutoff duration
on your Scanner to a longer time.

  MTAS Messages

    Cannot understand Scanner data messages.
Error may be caused by using International data with 7-bit character
      width.

If you are using an International character set, rather than English,
please change the Scanner and MT Executive COM port configuration to 8
data bits. The International character sets require 8-bit data.

    Reading. Connect Scanner to COMn
Connect the Scanner to the COM port. Make sure the COM port you have
selected from the Port menu matches the port to which you connected the
Scanner. Also, ensure that MT Executive's COM port configuration
matches the Scanner's printer port setup, that the Scanner is on, and
that you have the proper FLASH version for using PC AutoStore.

    Test nn. Looking for Scanner
nn-1 test results have been read from the Scanner. The program is
trying to read the nnth result. There does not appear to be a Scanner
plugged into the PC at this time.

You may disconnect and re-connect Scanners while reading test results.
This message simply indicates that the program currently does not sense a
Scanner connected. If the Scanner has powered off, you may need to
change the Auto Shutoff duration to a longer time.

    Test nn.  Reading data :::
nn-1 test results have been read from the Scanner. The program is
      reading the nnth result.

    Test nn. Waiting for data
nn-1 test results have been read from the Scanner. The Scanner has no
more Autotest results ready to read at the moment.

  MTLIM Messages

Reading. Waiting for Scanner on COMn to respond The Scanner is not
responding to commands from the PC. Check that the Scanner is turned on.
You may need to change the Auto Shutoff duration on your Scanner to a
    longer time.

    Scanner is busy.
Press CLEAR or ENTER on the Scanner until the display says 'Enter
      Function.'

The Scanner is not in the idle mode. The Scanner must be in the idle
mode to perform this operation. Press the CLEAR and/or ENTER button on
the Scanner keyboard until 'Enter Function' appears in the display. Then
      retry the operation.

This Scanner is a modelnumber. Data is from a modelnumber. Force write or
    Quit? (F/Q)
The Limit file and the Scanner have different model numbers. The Scanner
model you used to save these limits may not be compatible with the
Scanner connected now. Connect a different Scanner model, or choose
      a different limits file.

Forcing the write may corrupt the Scanner's limits and require a FLASH
      reload.

Writing. Waiting for Scanner nn on COMn to respond.
The Scanner is not responding to commands from the PC. Check that the
Scanner is turned on. You may need to change the Auto Shutoff duration
on your Scanner to a longer time.
