I. Preset Scenarios

There are five scenarios preset, including four from the Summer 1993
issue of our newsletter, Scenario.

Asteroid Hunters: The file vesta.dat contains the position of Vesta at two-day
intervals from March to August 1993. To view the path of this asteroid
first set the user file name to "vesta.dat" in the scenario window. Next set
the date, location, and time such that Vesta will be visible. It is best to set
the magnitude limit to 7.5. You may find Vesta from the binocular view using
"Find Object by Name"--try "Vesta 8/15" (the second part is the date). You
will see an arc of faint objects, representing the path of the asteroid.

II. Proper Settings For Your Monitor

Altering the settings on your monitor can greatly enhance the realistic
star effect of PC-Sky. For best results, set the program for "Desert/Mountain"
and enter the Naked Eye view. Now adjust the contrast on your monitor upwards
so that the stars get brighter, and then adjust the brightness control so that
the very faintest stars are just barely visible. Repeat this process until
you get the greatest range in star brightness your monitor will deliver. It
often helps to turn the room lights down.

If you feel that you are not seeing the faintest stars, the star
brightness can be increased by adding the following command line option when
you start the program. (A good test is to see if you can see the asteroid
Vesta described above, but remember it is supposed to be hard to see).

	sky n

where "n" is a number between 1 and 63. The larger this number is, the brighter
the faintest stars will appear on your monitor. Values of "n" greater that 10
are generally not very useful because the stars start to all look the same.

III. More on the Mouse in SVGA

In some cases in SVGA when the "Alternate Mouse" is chosen from the options
program the mouse cursor may move jerkily (or not at all). This can often
be fixed by turning off the scintillation (or "twinkling"). To turn off
the scintillation add the following command option when you start the program:

	sky /NOTWINKLE
