WELCOME TO THE MICROSOFT CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL PROGRAMME ASSESSMENT DISK.

PLEASE FIND DETAILED BELOW INSTALLATION AND USAGE INSTRUCTIONS

1. Installing Your Assessment Disk
--------------------------------------------------------

To install the Assessment Disk

	a. Create a directory on your hard disk. We will refer to this as CPASSMT.

	b. Copy the following files to the CPASSMT directory you have created:

		LNCHTST.EXE WIN.RSP
		LNCHTST.HLP WFW.RSP
		LNCHTST.INI NT.RSP
		WTDP.EXE DOS.TST
		WTD.HLP WIN.TST
		WTDFONT.FON WFW.TST
		DOS.RSP NT.TST

	c. If you wish to create an Icon for \CPASSMT\LNCHTST.EXE use your Windows Setup in the Main Group in Program Manager.

	d. You may execute the Assessment Exam program by clicking on the Icon, or
by running the LNCHTST.EXE program from the File Manager
	     or Program Manager.

Do not directly execute the WTDP.EXE program.

2. Using the Assessment Disk
---------------------------------------------

The Microsoft Certification Assessment Disk Version 1.0
contains four assessment exams:

	*  Introduction to Microsoft MS-DOS & Microcomputer
	   Hardware
	*  Microsoft Windows V3.1 Administration
	* Microsoft Windows for Workgroups V3.1
	* Microsoft Windows NT V3.1 Installation & Support

These assessment exams are designed to help you evaluate
your knowledge and skills prior to taking actual Microsoft
certification exams. These assessment exams will also give
you practice answering questions of a format similar to
those on the actual exams. Because these assessment exams
cover many of the concepts you are required to know for
certification, the higher you score on a specific assessment
exam, the closer you may be to passing the actual
certification exam. However, these exams do not serve as
actual certification exams, nor does performance on these
exams guarantee or directly correlate to the success you may
have on the actual certification exams.

	Setting Your Name
	------------------------------------------------------
To set your name on an exam, click the Options button
on the Select a Test window. This will bring up a
dialog box that will allow you to enter your first and
last name. When you start an exam, your name will
appear in the test introduction and on any score
	reports.

	Starting An Exam
	------------------------------------------------------
To take an assessment exam, click on one of the exam
titles in the Select a Test window. Text describing
the specific exam will appear in the Description
window. To start the exam, click the Start Test
	button.

There is no time limit on the assessment exams and
you may repeat the assessment exams as often as you
	wish.

On-line help is always available by clicking the Help
button or pressing F1. Note that only the options
displayed on screen in the Microsoft Certification
Assessment Disk version 1.0 are available. You may
see some options documented in Help which are not
implemented in this version of the assessment exams.

	Answering Questions
	------------------------------------------------------
Specific instructions are provided for answering each
question. Read the on-screen prompts before
answering a question, to be sure that you understand
	what is expected.

If you answer a question incorrectly, you will be
given feedback indicating the correct answer. You
will be allowed to review previous questions and to
mark those you wish to review later, but you cannot
change your answer to a question after proceeding to
the next question. (You may repeat the exam if you
	wish.)

To 'mark' a question so that you can review it again before
finishing the exam, click on the mark button.

	Scoring
	------------------------------------------------------
After you end the exam, your score will be
automatically displayed. You can also check your
scores for each individual section of the exam using
            the Section Scores Button.

A record is also kept of all scores for the exams you
have taken. Access this by clicking on the Scores button in
	the Select a Test window.

The assessment exams are not scored as pass or fail.
The score given for each assessment exam enables you
to evaluate your knowledge and determine if additional
	study may be of benefit.

		GOOD LUCK!

3. Operational Notes and Corrections
------------------------------------------------------------
	   * Introduction to MS-DOS and Microcomputer Hardware
is no longer a core exam requirement for the Microsoft
Certified Professsional Programme. Future versions of
the Microsoft Windows exam will incorporate MS-DOS
questions and thus the assessment exam remains on
               this disk.

	   * There is a wording error in one of the
questions on the Introduction to Microsoft MS-DOS &
Microcomputer Hardware Assessment Exam which could
affect your response. The corrected question is
below. In the assessment exam the word "raster" is
	   incorrectly displayed as "faster."

Which of the following characteristics are
associated with raster screen fonts in Windows?

		A. They are provided in bitmap format.
		B. They can be scaled smoothly to even
		    multiples of their point sizes.
		C. They usually require separate installation
because Windows Setup does not install them.
		D. Their font files follow a specific naming
		    convention.

		Select all correct answers.
