----------
Modem LEDs
----------

The status bar at the bottom of each communication session features Modem LEDs, which correspond to the most common front panel indicators on external modems. You can control whether this feature displays by selecting Modem LEDs from the View menu. The Modem LEDs are:

AA (Auto-Answer) Configured to answer calls
CD (Carrier Detect) Connected with remote modem
OH (Off Hook) Modem has your phone off the hook
RD (Received Data) Receiving data from remote system
SD (Sending Data) Sending data to remote system
TR (Terminal Ready) Delrina WinComm PRO is ready
MR (Modem Ready)* Modem is ready

Before or after you connect, all LEDs are off. While dialing or connected, LEDs closely match actual modem indicators, though not precisely in sync, because of Windows comm drivers and buffering. With devices other than modems, such as direct cable connections, the LEDs indicate equivalent status information.

* This LED shows Delrina WinComm PRO's best guess at whether the modem or device is powered and operable. A modem's MR indicator cannot be read by software, so Delrina WinComm PRO infers its state from the modem's DSR (Data Set Ready) signal.

---------
Host Mode
---------

Host mode looks and acts a bit different from the rest of Delrina WinComm PRO, because it is actually a script program written with Visual Basic. The Host Monitor displays in the foreground (except with Windows 3.0), centered in Delrina WinComm PRO's Host session window. To watch or interact with callers, or to use features of the Host session window itself, simply move the Host Monitor over to one side (click and drag its title bar).

---------------------
Additional Port Types
---------------------

Delrina WinComm PRO features Modular Communications Engine (MCE) architecture -- a unique program structure that gives you excellent performance and the clearest possible menus, no matter what port type you select. When you select a port type in Delrina WinComm PRO, it actually loads a .DLL (Dynamic Linked Library) with complete support routines and menus for that particular communications interface.

Delrina WinComm PRO comes with support for these port types:

Standard Com Ports -- Described in the manual.

Standard Int 14h Ports -- This selection applies to shared modems on LANs, Asynchronous Communications Servers (ACS), TCP/IP, or other devices accessed through third-party software drivers that use the Int 14h interface. Prior to using Delrina WinComm PRO, you will need to install the third-party driver according to instructions from its manufacturer.

QuickSwap Com Cards -- This selection applies to PCMCIA modem cards addressed through the QuickSwap interface.

Please contact Delrina if you need support for additional communications interfaces. One of the advantages of MCE architecture is that support for other interfaces merely requires adding another .DLL to your existing Delrina WinComm PRO directory.

------------------------------------
Using Delrina WinComm PRO on a Local Area Network
------------------------------------

Delrina WinComm PRO can be installed on PCs connected to a LAN, or on the LAN server itself. (In either case, the number of licenses purchased must at least equal the number of copies that may be simultaneously in use.) Even if Delrina WinComm PRO is installed on the server, it is possible for each user to have his/her own program preferences and Phonebook, as long as the LAN is configured so that each user's personal WIN.INI file is invoked when the user logs onto the network.

To maintain your own separate program preferences, you must keep your preference file (WINCOMM.PRF) in a separate directory, and list that directory in your WIN.INI file. This is easy to set up. Just start Delrina WinComm PRO, select Options from the Phonebook menu bar, select Startup, and then enter that directory as "Directory to start from." This places

    [wincomm]
    DIRECTORY= <directory name>

in your WIN.INI file, and copies WINCOMM.PRF to the specified directory, unless it's already there. (This is the only time Delrina WinComm PRO modifies your WIN.INI file.) Each time you start Delrina WinComm PRO, it checks WIN.INI for this specification.

Among other things, the preference file gives your Phonebook location. So, by defining your own, separate Phonebook location (using Options/Phonebook location) and copying your session files to that directory (*.wcs and *.wcb files), you can maintain your own, personal Phonebook.

-------------------------------
Installing Under Norton Desktop
-------------------------------

Norton Desktop 2.0 has a problem running programs that assume Windows Program Manager is present, or that use setup code provided by Microsoft. While there's no problem with Delrina WinComm PRO itself, its Setup program (like many other programs listed in Norton's README.TXT file) requires special care. Before running Setup, be sure to bring up Windows Program Manager inside Norton Desktop. This will enable Norton Desktop to run the Setup program successfully.

------------------------------------------------
Compatibility with Previous HyperACCESS Versions
------------------------------------------------

WinComm PRO has a different structure from HyperACCESS/5 for DOS and OS/2. While none of HyperACCESS/5's files are directly compatible, you can convert its System List entries into Delrina WinComm PRO Phonebook entries. To do this, export the desired systems from HyperACCESS/5 as described in its manual. Then run the CONVERT.EXE utility included in the WinComm PRO Group.

Delrina WinComm PRO has a full-featured API (Application Programming Interface), rather than a proprietary script language similar to HyperACCESS/5's HyperPilot language. You can automate your communications or create your own custom front end with Visual Basic, C++, C, or any language that can drive .DLLs -- or you may use Delrina WinComm PRO's built-in C interpreter.

--------------------
Documentation Errata
--------------------

Pages 4-17 & 6-41, figures do not show "Modem LEDs" in View menu drop-down.

Pages 4-19 & 6-44, no description of Modem LEDs.

Page 6-69 should mention that when Delrina WinComm PRO is minimized while receiving files, its globe icon fills in like a dial only with protocols that report in advance the total amount of data to be sent (i.e., Zmodem, HyperProtocol, and CompuServe B+).

Page D-3 fails to mention that the ANSI emulator's keys can be configured to send IBM PC scan codes, for use with BBS Doorway mode.

Index page 8, "Status bar" index entry should list pages 6-24 and 6-44

--------------------------------
Removing Delrina WinComm PRO from Your System
--------------------------------

Delrina WinComm PRO makes no changes to your WIN.INI file (unless you change startup directory using the Options menu, which adds a [wincomm] section to WIN.INI.) This makes removing Delrina WinComm PRO from your system so easy that there is no need for the Setup program to include a "Deinstall" option. To remove Delrina WinComm PRO, simply delete the directories and files listed below.
