ADDING FILES - File Director
If you are adding files in the File Director, and you
decide to cancel, the operation will not stop until
	the current file is finished.

AUTOMOUNT - Recommendation
Do not unmount an automounted drive.

AUTOMOUNTING FLOPPIES
When you insert a compressed disk in an
Automount drive, the drive does not appear
on the DBLSPACE drive list. The DBLSPACE
utility will not recognize it until you access it.

Immediately after you compress a disk in an
automount drive, it is sometimes not recognized
as compressed. If you remove the floppy from the
drive and insert it again, it will be recognized.

BERNOULLI DRIVES - Automounting
When you first bring a Bernoulli drive online,
you must mount it by hand. Thereafter, it
will automount. (See also, SYQUEST AND
BERNOULLI DRIVES in this Readme file.)

CHKDSK vs. RESCUE - DoubleTools Driver
When the DoubleTools driver mounts a disk with
MDFAT errors, it will mount read only.
CHKDSK and RTOOL can fix these errors, but
you may have to run CHKDSK twice.

RTOOL: If you have MDFAT errors, run

		RTOOL /F once.

		or

CHKDSK: If you have only MDFAT errors, you can
run CHKDSK /F once. If you have both FAT and
MDFAT errors, run CHKDSK /F two times in a row.

COMMIT - Compression Central
In the Drive Balancer, when you have selected a new compression
ratio or CVF size, you click the COMMIT button to make these
	changes to your compressed disk.

When you click COMMIT, Compression Central closes all
running programs, shuts down Windows, resizes your disks,
and restarts Windows. You must restart application
	programs manually - including DoubleTools.

"COULD NOT FIND MICROSOFT DRIVER" MESSAGE - DTConfig
If you receive the error message "Could not find Microsoft
driver" while running DTConfig, it means that DTConfig was
unable to locate its backup copy of the Microsoft
	DoubleSpace driver.

Restart DTConfig and determine if you are running the Addstor
or the Standard driver. If you are running the Standard
driver,	go to your DOS directory and copy the file
DBLSPACE.BIN to	DBLSPACE.DOS. If you are running the Addstor
driver, copy the files EXPAND.EXE and DBLSPACE.BI_ to your
DOS directory, go to a DOS prompt, then go to your DOS
	directory and type "EXPAND DBLSPACE.BI_ DBLSPACE.DOS <ENTER>."

DEFRAGMENT - Insufficient free-space errors
The Defragment utility needs extra disk workspace
while it is running. Even though you seem to
have sufficient disk space, you could see an
	"Insufficient free-space" error.

When you see this error message, either stop
the defragment utility, or delete some files to
make more room on the disk. This error will
not damage your disk or any of your files.

DELETING DOUBLESPACE CVF - WARNING
Delete active CVFs from using the DBLSPACE shell or the
DBLSPACE /DELETE command. If you delete an active CVF
without deleting its ActivateDrive line from the
DBLSPACE.INI file, your system will not function
	correctly.

DISK ANALYZER ICON - Compression Central
When you click the Disk Analyzer icon, you have a choice of
three displays, File Fragmentation, Isolated Sectors, and
	Compression Map.

In these screens, if you click the Magnify icon or the Files
icon without selecting any of the colored squares
representing files, the action applies to the entire area
	represented in the display.

If you click one of these icons after selecting any of the
squares, the action applies to the entire area
	represented by the selected squares.

DOUBLETOOLS DRIVER - Configuring AutoMount under MS-DOS 6.2

The following section is only relevant to users of
MS-DOS 6.2 or later. It is not relevant to users of
	MS-DOS 6.0 or PC-DOS.

	In MS-DOS 6.2, both DBLSPACE.INI and ADDSTOR.INI can
configure the DoubleTools driver for Automounting. The
Microsoft driver is configured only by the DBLSPACE.INI
file. DTConfig effects only those paramters stored in
	ADDSTOR.INI.

We recommend using one of the following two methods to
configure the Addstor driver's Automount facility:
	1. Use DTConfig to set AutoMount to all. Whatever settings
you then specify through DBLSPACE /AUTOMOUNT command will
	be in effect.
	2. Use DBLSPACE /AUTOMOUNT=1. Whatever settings you then
specify through DTConfig will be in effect.

DOUBLETOOLS DRIVER - Free Space Reporting
The DoubleTools driver reserves some space at the
end of your disk for safety reasons. DOS also uses a
different method of estimating compressibility of new
files. Because of this, it may report less free space
than DoubleSpace. Occasionally it will allow you to
write to the disk even though "0 free space" is reported.

When you run CHKDSK with the DoubleTools
driver, you may see that DOS reports different
"total disk space and "bytes available on disk"
	than with the DoubleSpace driver.

It is normal to see a difference in these numbers.

DOUBLETOOLS DRIVER - Memmaker, QEMM, 386Max, etc.
If you have run Memmaker, QEMM, 386Max, or any other memory
management software that specifies the size of device drivers,
and you install the DoubleTools enhanced device driver, you
should run the memory manager's optimization (Optimize for
QEMM, Maximize for 386Max, Memmaker for Memmaker) again.

DOUBLETOOLS DRIVER - NoUMB switch
The NoUMB switch described in the DoubleTools manual no longer
exists. The DoubleTools driver now defaults to accepting
upper memory blocks rather than trying to allocate them. If
you wish to have the DoubleTools driver allocate its own upper
memory blocks rather than move it into upper memory with a memory
manager, add the USEUMB switch to the ADDSTOR.INI file (which
is the new name for the DTDRVR.INI file described in the manual).

DR DOS - 5.0 and 6.0 with UDEON
At this time, UDEON does not run with DR DOS (with
	or without SuperStor).

DTDRVR.INI - Name change
The name of the driver configuration file described in the
DoubleTools has been changed to ADDSTOR.INI.

FILE CABINET - Compression Central
If you open File Cabinet on a disk with a large number of files,
the files are shown on multiple screens. If you select
some files, your files will become unselected after:

	You change the sort order

		or

You scroll down to the next page

GLOSSARY - Addition to Glossary
Create: In DoubleSpace terminology, when you want to create a
compressed drive, you perform a "create" command.
You are then prompted for information for the
compressed drive such as: Drive letter, Compression
		ratio, etc..

INI FILE - File Director & Compression Central
Here is a summary of some of the settings of the DoubleTools
INI file (DBLTLS.INI). If there is an invalid value listed in
your INI file, DoubleTools will revert to the
	defaults (listed below).

Most of these values can be set from the DTCONFIG
program. (Click the DTConfig icon in your program group.)

SourceDrive=C: This can be any fixed local drive.

INSTALL - Not on SuperStor compressed drives
DoubleTools does not install on SuperStor
	compressed drives at this time.

INSTALL - Games
The following games have some special installation
	information:
	 "The 7th Guest"
If you are running the DoubleTools drive and you are installing
"The 7th Guest" software, you will see the message:

		Not Ready: Abort, Retry, Fail

Select Fail to continue your installation.

	"The Curse of Enchantia"
Install this game only with the DoubleSpace driver.
The DoubleTools driver does not allow the install of
	this game at this time.

"INTERNAL ERROR" MESSAGE - Silent Tools
If you see an "Internal Error" message when attempting to
defragment a disk, a minor problem has occurred in
communications between the DoubleTools driver and Silent
Tools. This situation is not dangerous. You can correct
this problem only by restarting the driver (exiting Windows
	and rebooting your computer).

MEDIA SPANNING - Please send in your Registration Card
The media spanning option in the File Director
as documented in the DoubleTools User's Guide
	is not in this release.

MOUNT INFORMATION - Compression Central
This section is relevant only to users of MS-DOS 6.0.
If you are using PC-DOS 6.1 or above or MS-DOS 6.2 or
above, this section does not apply to you.

Mount information: If you are running the Microsoft
DoubleSpace driver and you mount a drive from
Compression Central, you can access the drive only
as long as you remain in Windows. If you exit
Windows, the drive will show as "invalid", and you
will be unable to access it.

To see the drive and to access it normally, you must
	reboot your system.

This does not happen if you are running the DoubleTools
driver. Any drive you mount with the DoubleTools
driver is always accessible to you from Windows or
	from DOS.

NORTON UTILITIES 7.0 - Speedisk and the DoubleTools driver
This version of DoubleTools includes a driver which is not
compatible with Speedisk from the Norton Utilities, version
7.0. There are no known problems with the related Defrag
utility included in DOS 6. All other components of
oubleTools are compatible with Norton 7.0 Speedisk.

OFF BUTTON - Compression Central
The Off Button on the main menu of Compression Central
causes DoubleTools to terminate all of its functions and exit.
Online help does not yet include this definition.

PC TOOLS 8.0a - PCCache and the DoubleTools driver
This version of DoubleTools includes a driver which is not
compatible with PCCache from PC Tools version 8.0a. All
other components of DoubleTools are compatible with PC Tools
	8.0a PCCache.

PREVIEW - File Director
Periodically, when you select only small or
uncompressible files, the File Director preview
tells you the total size of the compressed files is
larger than the uncompressed files. This is because
there is extra space required for overhead (entries in
the subdirectory and the system area in the CVF).

RESCUE TOOLS - Slow running tests
When you are running Rescue Tools tests on an
unmounted CVF, they will take significantly
longer than if you are running the tests on a
	mounted drive.

SINGLE FLOPPY SYSTEMS - Compression Central
If you have a system with a single floppy disk
drive, the following features will not work on
	a compressed floppy disk:

		Space Gauge
		Disk Analyzer
		Drive Balancer
		File Cabinet

SLOW SORT - Compression Central
Most SORT operations are fast and efficient. If,
however, you are performing a PATH sort, you may
experience some delays. This particular sort is time-
consuming, especially on large drives with many files.
It is important to note that your system is still running.

UDE and DATA TRANSPORTER - File Director
Although you prepare UDE disks and Data
Transporter files under Windows, the people you
give them to must start their special drivers
	(UDEON and TRANS) under DOS.

UDEON.COM - DOS 6 Systems
UDEON will not run on a DOS 6 system using
	DoubleSpace or SuperStor/DS.

If you are using PC-DOS 6.1 or above or MS-DOS 6.2 or
above with Automount active, the UDE floppy will
automount. Otherwise, use DBLSPACE /MOUNT under
	MS-DOS or MOUNT under PC-DOS.

UNFORMATTED DISK - Compression Central & File Director
Please do not attempt to perform any action on an
unformatted disk in Compression Central or the
	File Director.
