GOLD DISK MCI ANIMATION DRIVER
==============================

MCI Driver Version 2.0
----------------------
Appendix F, Gold Disk MCI Animation Driver, of the Reference manual refers
to the MCI Driver version number as being 1.10. The version number of the
driver is 2.00.

Always Waits On An OPEN Command
-------------------------------
Previous versions of the MCI Driver accepted the optional Wait flag on both
the OPEN and LOAD commands. However, many applications do not use the Wait
flag but assume the functionality as if a Wait command were used; i.e. the
driver returning to the calling application only when it has completed
opening or loading the animation. This resulted in many problems with other
applications since they assumed that the driver had opened or loaded the
animation and was ready to accept other commands; where in fact the driver
was still in the process of opening/loading because the Wait flag was not
used.

To provide compatibility with as many applications as possible, we have
modified the driver to always perform a Wait on all OPEN commands; whether a Wait flag is used or not. Therefore, the driver will not return to
the calling application until it has completed opening the animation.

However, the LOAD command will still check for the Wait flag and perform the
command appropriately. Therefore, if you want your application to perform
other tasks while the animation is being loaded, you should use the LOAD
command instead of the OPEN command.

TARGA Files
-----------
The section in the Appendix F: Gold Disk MCI Animation Driver, labeled,
"Using GIF, TIFF, PCX images" should also include TARGA (TGA) images.

MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION
=========================

Distributing Your Movies
------------------------
Page B-9 of the Reference Manual lists all the files that are required
when you distribute your movies using the method of distributing all the
individual files. Added to this list is the tga.dll file. This file, plus
the pcx.dll file, are only required if your movies are not embedded and
any of your movies contain images in any of these formats. For example,
you only need pcx.dll if a movie is not embedded and contains a pcx image.

Also, there is an error in the manual: you must always distribute the
file tiff.dll; even if you are not using tiff images in your movie or
your movie is embedded.

You cannot distribute the pcdlib.dll file. Therefore, if you have used a
Kodak Photo CD image in your movie, you must embed the image if you are
distributing the movie.
Photo CD Technology, (C) Eastman Kodak Company.

If you have decided to distribute the individual files, we suggest that
you embed the movies; then you will not require the files mentioned above.

We believe the best method of distributing your movies is:
    1. Embedding all movies.
    2. Binding the movies and playback system into a single executable
file (the second method described in the manual).

Interactivity in Accelerated Movies
----------------------------------
When a movie has been accelerated and has an interactive path which requires
a mouse click as an input, the mouse click will be detected within the
bounding rectangle of the actor regardless if only the actor's image was
specified when defining the interactivity.

OLE and PowerPoint 3.0
----------------------
If you plan to link AWI movies into Microsoft PowerPoint 3.0 you should
create an AWI OLE Server icon, specifically for use with PowerPoint, inside
the Animation Works Interactive group within the Windows Program Manager.
To do this:
1. Copy the AWI Control Panel icon that was created during installation.
2. Select the new icon by clicking on it.
3. Select the Properties menu item from the File menu. The Program Item
   Properities dialog box is displayed.
4. Change "awserver.exe" within the Command Line entry to "awserppt.exe".
5. Change the Description entry to "AWI Control Panel (PowerPoint)".
6. Click on the OK button.
