FASTMENU.TXT

Cakewalk Professional has always followed the popular convention of
using ALT-key combinations to open drop-down menus. Some folks,
however, don't like this convention.

The FASTMENU.MAC file has macros to make opening menus faster. The
macros let you open drop-down menus without using the ALT key. For
example, to open the File menu, you can press plain F instead of
ALT-F.

The macros are:

Hotkey	Keystroke	Menu
------	---------	--------
F	ALT-F File
R	ALT-R Realtime
M	ALT-M Mark
E	ALT-E Edit
V	ALT-V View
S	ALT-S Settings
K	ALT-K KeyMacro

NOTE: When using these macros, the R key no longer "presses" the
Record button to start recording. Instead, it opens the Realtime
menu. You need to press R a second time to select the "Record"
choice from the Realtime menu. So, you can either (a) get used to
pressing R twice to start recording or (b) delete the R macro.

How To Use FASTMENU.MAC
-----------------------

Go to (1) if you don't have a CAKEWALK.MAC file.
Otherwise, go to (2).

-(1)- If you haven't created and saved any macros, then you do not
already have a CAKEWALK.MAC file. In this case, simply use the DOS
copy command to make a CAKEWALK.MAC file that is a copy of
FASTMENU.MAC:

  COPY [drive:\dir\]FASTMENU.MAC [drive:\dir\]CAKEWALK.MAC

Note that CAKEWALK.MAC must be in the same directory as CAKEPRO.EXE

-(2)- If you have created and saved macros of your own, then you
already have a CAKEWALK.MAC file. If you copy FASTMENU.MAC to
CAKEWALK.MAC, you'll destroy your existing macros. Instead, use the
new MERGEMAC.EXE utility to merge FASTMENU.MAC into CAKEWALK.MAC:

  MERGEMAC [drive:\dir\]FASTMENU.MAC [drive:\dir\]CAKEWALK.MAC

This adds the macros from FASTMENU.MAC to CAKEWALK.MAC. If there are
hotkey conflicts (if there are already macros in CAKEWALK.MAC that
use the hotkeys in FASTMENU.MAC) then MERGEMAC will ask you which
macro should "win" and end up in the merged CAKEWALK.MAC file.
