    1. Installation
    ---------------
To install Quattro Pro on your hard disk:

       o Place Disk 1 in drive A.
o Type A:INSTALL and press ENTER.
o Follow the directions that appear onscreen.

If you have trouble reading the installation screens, use the
optional command line parameter /B to run INSTALL in a black and
      white display mode:

       o Type A:INSTALL /B and press ENTER

It may be necessary to use /B if you're using an LCD screen or a
system that has a color graphics adapter with a monochrome or
      composite monitor.

After you install Quattro Pro, to start the program:

o Type Q and press ENTER.

    2. Upgrading from a previous version
    ------------------------------------
      Before you begin
      ----------------
If you store spreadsheet files in the Quattro Pro directory,
they won't be deleted during installation, but it's a good idea
to make backup copies before you install Quattro Pro.

If you have any read-only files in the Quattro Pro directory,
make them read-write before you run INSTALL. If INSTALL encounters
any read-only files, installation can't be successfully completed.

Upgrading from Quattro Pro 4 or earlier
      ---------------------------------------
To upgrade to Quattro Pro 5 from an earlier version of Quattro Pro,
follow the instructions in Chapter 1 of the "User's Guide."

If you previously used BSINST to install additional Bitstream fonts,
you must reinstall them after installing Quattro Pro 5. If you
have the newer type of Bitstream fonts (.SPD files), you must
      use SPDINST to install them.

If you previously installed BORLAND's ProView or ProShow ValuePacks,
you must reinstall them after installing Quattro Pro 5.

If you have custom menu systems from earlier versions, save them
to a different directory before you run INSTALL. After installing,
use NEWMU to translate them to version 5 menu files, then copy the
translated files back into the Quattro Pro program directory. This
      retains all previous menu structures.

      Upgrading network installations
      -------------------------------
When upgrading a network installation of Quattro Pro 4
to version 5, the menu and resource files stored in each user's
private directory must be updated. These include any .MU, .MP,
or .RF files. Replace the .RF files with the updated versions
and create new .MP files using MPMAKE as described in
Chapter 23 of the "User's Guide."

      After installation
      ------------------
If you're upgrading from version 4.0 or earlier, or you're
having trouble with Quattro Pro 5 running properly, install
Quattro Pro into an empty directory. Either create a new
directory, or delete all of the files in your current
Quattro Pro directory, and then install the new version.
If you store spreadsheet files in the Quattro Pro directory,
make backup copies before emptying the directory.

If you have printing or display problems related to fonts,
exit Quattro Pro and delete all of the font files in the FONTS
subdirectory of the Quattro Pro directory (for example,
in C:\QPRO\FONTS). Quattro Pro will re-create these font files
the first time you open or print a file that requires them.
Note: You must delete these files after exiting Quattro Pro,
      not while running Quattro Pro.

    3. How to contact Technical Support
    -----------------------------------
If you need help with Quattro Pro, please read this file
and the manuals. If you still have a question and need
assistance, consult the "Borland Support and Services Guide"
included in your Quattro Pro package.

    4. Problems using a mouse
    -------------------------
If you have display problems using Quattro Pro with
Microsoft mouse driver version 7.04, try adding the /Y
option to the command that loads the mouse driver. For
example, change the statement in your CONFIG.SYS to

         DEVICE=MOUSE.SYS /Y

If the mouse pointer doesn't appear onscreen, you may need
to update your mouse driver. See "Using mouse drivers with
graphics cards" in Chapter 3 of the "User's Guide."

    5. Running under Windows
    ------------------------
To run Quattro Pro in a small window (instead of full-screen),
delete the file EGASPL.PCX, rename it, or move it to another
directory. Within Quattro Pro, set /Options|Display Mode to
A: 80x25. This way, Quattro Pro won't start up in graphics mode.

Windows 3.x does not support the extended text modes of DOS appli-
cations. To use extended text modes in Quattro Pro under Windows,
      you MUST run full-screen.

    6. Sound files
    --------------
You may not be able to play sound files when running under Microsoft
Windows in 386/Enhanced mode, or while running under Quarterdeck
DESQView. When using the above configurations, save your notebooks
before experimenting with sound files. See Chapter 16 of the "User's
Guide" for instructions on using sound files.

    7. Slide transitions
    --------------------
Some video adapters don't support all slide transitions. If you find
a transition that doesn't work with your video adapter, try
      another.

    8. Printing
    ------------
The Font setting of the Normal style in a notebook controls both
       vertical and horizontal spacing.

The vertical height of a row is calculated as follows:
        * A manual row-height setting overrides the default row height.
        * If the height of the row has not been manually set, the
height is determined by either the largest font in that row
or the height of the Normal style's font, whichever is largest.

If the selector is within an inserted graph block, /Print|
Graph Print|Go prints the inserted graph. To print a different
graph, move the selector outside the inserted graph and use
       /Print|Graph Print|Name to select a different graph.

    9. Links in a 1-2-3 version 2.2 file
    -------------------------------------
The maximum number of spreadsheets that a Quattro Pro
notebook can link to is 62. If a 2.2 file has links to more
than 62 files, Quattro Pro stops reading data after the 62nd
link. Data beyond that point isn't loaded.

To load a 2.2 spreadsheet with more than 62 links, convert
the links into their values first, or relocate the important
links into a link library and keep the links to 62 or less.
You can also try converting the files into a consolidated
      notebook using /File|Utilities|Consolidate.

    10. Sample .QLL file
    --------------------
Quattro Pro includes a file called SAMPLE.QLL that contains several
add-in @functions. To load this file, use /Tools|Library|Load.
Once this file is loaded, the following additional @functions
      are available:

         ADD-IN @FUNCTION DESCRIPTION
        ================================================================
         sinh(x) (exp(x) - exp(-x))/2
         cosh(x) (exp(x) + exp(-x))/2
         tanh(x) sinh(x)/cosh(x)
         hypot(x,y) sqrt(x^2+y^2)
add_months(x,y) date obtained by adding y months to date x.
It handles the end of the month and year
                                as follows:
                                        30-Nov-93 + 2 mon = 30-Jan-94
                                        30-Nov-93 + 3 mon = 28-Feb-94
last_day(x) returns the last day of month of the serial
date number x (the time of day is dropped
                                from the serial number)

Use the following syntax with these @functions:

      @LIBRARY.function (for example, @SAMPLE.sinh(x)).

    11. Selecting blocks in macros
    ------------------------------
In macros, use {/ Macro;RetainBlock} to retain selected blocks as
Quattro Pro version 5 does; use {/ Macro;NoRetainBlock} to
do block selection as Quattro Pro version 3 did. Unless you
use {/ Macro;RetainBlock}, blocks are retained like
Quattro Pro version 3 in macro execution.

    12. Optimizer tips
    ------------------
For best performance, use Optimizer in text display mode.

If dual values in an answer report are close to zero, choose
Go again a few times to refine them. The solution will stay the
same, but dual values will converge.

    13. Format code for a number in scientific notation
    ---------------------------------------------------
When creating a user-defined numeric format, you can use the
following format code to create a format that displays the
      value using scientific notation:

Cell contents Format code Display as
      ------------- ----------- ----------
      123456 N0.00e+0 1.23e+5

    14. The Borland Print Spooler
    -----------------------------
If you use software that loads utilities into high memory,
      don't load BPS.COM high.

If you're printing to LPT3, LPT4, PRN, or EPT with background
printing enabled, the device will be remapped to LPT1.

Like other TSR programs, if you load BPS.COM, then load
other TSR programs after it (such as a SideKick), you should
unload the other TSR programs before unloading BPS.COM.

While BPS.COM is loaded, the Ctrl-Break key is disabled.

    15. Using Quattro Pro with PenDOS
    ---------------------------------
To use Quattro Pro with the PenDOS operating system, start the
program with the /K command-line option. For example:
           Q /K

    16. Version 4.0 Font Table Support
    ----------------------------------
The fonts that were set in Quattro Pro version 4.0 using
/Style|Font Table have been replaced by named styles. Macros in
existing .WQ1 spreadsheet files that use the menu equivalent
{/ Publish;Font} to set fonts still work, but using named styles
instead is recommended. Use /Style|Define Style|Create to create
or modify named styles, and /Style|Use Style to apply them.

    17. Logical Expressions that Refer to Labels
    --------------------------------------------
In earlier versions of Quattro Pro, an expression such as +A1 = 0
would return 1 (true) if A1 contained a label. In version 5.0,
this expression returns 0 (false), making it compatible with
Quattro Pro for Windows. Macros that relied on the previous
behavior should be modified to check whether a cell contains a
label. For example, replace +A1=0 with

         (+A1=0)#AND#(#NOT#@CELL("type",A1)="l")

    18. Using a Colon in Block Names
    --------------------------------
In version 5.0, you can't use a colon (:) in a block name, since
it now indicates the end of a group or page name when specifying
a cell or block address. If you have existing spreadsheets that
use colons in block names, change the block names and save the
file (formulas that reference those blocks aren't affected). If
the file contains macros that refer to those blocks, use
/Edit|Search & Replace to remove the colons from the macro.

    19. Sorting Cells with Line Drawing
    -----------------------------------
When data is sorted, any line drawing associated with a row stays
with the row, regardless of its new position in the sort block.
In earlier versions of Quattro Pro, the line drawing stayed at
      the original row position.

    20. Setting the Header and Footer Font
    --------------------------------------
The font used for headers and footers (when using graphics quality
printing) is the Font setting of the notebook's Normal style. To
change the header and footer font, change the Font setting of the
      Normal style using /Style|Define Style|Normal|Font.

    21. Using Named Styles in a Network Environment
    -----------------------------------------------
In a network environment, to create a unique set of default named
styles for each user, copy the file QUATTRO.STY into each
user's private directory (where their .RF and .MP files
are also stored). Then users can change their default set of
named styles without affecting other users. See Chapter 23 in the
"User's Guide" for more information on private directories, or
      contact your network administrator.

    22. New Sort Files
    ------------------
Quattro Pro version 5.0 includes two new .SOR files. INTL850.SOR is
useful for people using code page 850. NORDAN40.SOR is a revised
version of NORDAN.SOR (identical to the revised .SOR file available
      in Paradox).

    23. Label Alignment
    -------------------
/Options|Formats|Label Align can be set for each page of the
notebook. Label Align only controls the alignment of labels that will
be entered; it doesn't affect the alignment of existing labels.
Changing the alignment of labels and numbers using the Normal style's
Alignment setting affects only cells that weren't realigned using
/Style|Alignment. It also overrides the setting of Label Align.

    24. Translating Quattro Pro for Windows Formulas
    ------------------------------------------------
When importing Quattro Pro for Windows files, Quattro Pro for DOS
can import some formulas that exceed the normal limit of 254
characters. However, formulas imported this way are read-only; if
you try to edit them, only the first 254 characters display on
the edit line, and any characters that don't display are lost
when you press Enter. If a formula is too long to calculate
in Quattro Pro for DOS, or contains @Functions that are unique to
Quattro Pro for Windows, it's converted into a value.

    25. Key Reader Unavailable
    --------------------------
/Tools|Macro|Key Reader isn't included in Quattro Pro.
