ZyINDEX 5.01.4 for Windows Readme File

INSTALLATION NOTES - Follow these steps to install:
----------------------------------------------------

1. Start Windows and select File:Run... from the Program Manager
   menu bar.

2. Type a:\setup (or b:\setup if using b: drive) into the text
box and press ENTER or OK.

3. ZyINDEX prompts you for a path to use (default is c:\zyindex.)
A bar graph shows install progress. ZyINDEX decompresses and
copies files, and sets up a new group and program icons.

CAUTION: If you are using a large display adapter such as a TIGA
based adapter in 1280x1024 resolution mode, we recommend using
VGA resolution when installing. Before installing ZyIndex, use
Windows setup to change the display type to VGA. After
installation change the display type back.

UPGRADE INSTALLATION NOTES:
---------------------------

UpGrading from release 5.0
You can install 5.01 directly over 5.00; indexes from 5.00 are
compatible with 5.01.

Upgrading from releases 4.0x

If you had previously installed a ZyINDEX release 4.0x, you can
install ZyINDEX 5.01 directly over the previous one. This
operation retains any existing indexes with this caveat:

1. the ZYSET directory must contain a file named index.lst.

2. ZYSET must be a subdirectory of the directory where you
   install ZyINDEX.

If you used the default install paths of previous releases,
this will be the case. If not, you will need to create the
ZYSET directory in the proper place and copy your existing
index.lst file into it.

NOTE: Although you can retain 4.0x indexes for use with this
release, you cannot use them directly. Erase each 4.0x index,
and rebuild using ZyBUILD commands Utilities:Erase and
Build:Now!.

Using ZyINDEX on a Network:
---------------------------

If you are installing ZyINDEX for use on a Novell network,
installation places Netware aware libraries in your
Windows\system directory if they do not already exist there.
For each ZyINDEX user you need to place these libraries in
the DOS search path. The four Novell libraries are:
nwconn.dll, nwcore.dll, nwmisc.dll, and nwwrkstn.dll

Alternatively, users can copy them into their own Windows\system
directories. Although ZyINDEX does not require these libraries,
they provide index independence from drive mapping variations
among workstations and automatic sensing of user name for
Personal Scope mapping of Notes and Links. If ZyBUILD and
ZyFIND cannot find these libraries, each application produces a
notebox warning that the libraries are missing. Although you can
cancel these warnings without harm, ZyINDEX is then sensitive to
different drive mappings on various workstations, and prompts for
your user name the first time you run ZyFIND.

If you have VINES release 4.10 or later, we can provide drive
mapping insensitivity by special order. Please call 800-544-6339
for further information. We do not currently support drive
mapping insensitivity for other networks.

Building indexes requires temporary disk space. We recomend that
you locate tmp space on local drives. ZyBUILD looks for a place
to put tmp files in this order:

1) location set by DOS variable TMP, if it is defined;

2) location set by DOS variable TEMP, if it is defined;

3) the index directory

USAGE NOTES:
---------------------

1. Graphic files embedded in WordPerfect files must meet two
   requirements for ZyINDEX:

   a. the linked file from which the embedded graphics were
      inserted must be accessible;

   b. Only TIFF file formats are currently supported.
ZyINDEX does not currently view WordPerfect graphics
      formats directly.

2. The differences marking feature available with Archiving
files is not accurate when you check the option to retain
   original file format.

3. If you use Archiving when building an index here are some
   points to keep in mind:

   a. If you archive large files (greater than 100K) the screen
is inactive for 10-15 seconds (about 2 minutes for 1MB
      files).

   b. When viewing previous versions of an archived file following
a search, ZyFIND reconstructs the entire previous version in
a temporary file. For large files this can take minutes.

4. When you use wildcard expressions in a search statement, ZyFIND
limits each expansion to a maximum of 1,000 distinct words.
This applies to searches using single and multiple wildcard
characters, a set or range of characters, a numeric range
operator. You can remove the 1,000 word limit by adding this
   line to your zyindex.ini file:

                WildCardLimit=nnnn

where nnnn can be up to 4 billion. We have imposed this limit
to avoid excessively long and memory intensive searches.
   Change it with caution.

5. You can add this line to your ZyINDEX.ini file to suppress
drawing of graphics, thus saving time when you are viewing
WordPerfect or Word for Windows files that have with embedded
   graphics:

               ShowEmbeddedGraphics=0

6. When ZyINDEX is installed on a network, multiple users can
search an index, even while that index is undergoing Build
processing. On some networks, when Build processing is
complete, searchers using ZyFIND may not be able to retrieve
newly added files, with the result that the Search Results
window displays "not found" for these files. ZyFIND users
can overcome this by closing and reopening the Enter Search
Request window. This problem can also occur on a stand-alone
system running ZyFIND and ZyBUILD concurrently.

7. The autosense feature in ZyBUILD now has a binary file detect
mechanism that will skip a file designated for inclusion if it
contains too many non-printing ASCII characters, provided they
do not match a supported file format type. To force such
files to be added to an index anyway, select ANSI or IBM PC
character set in the word processor format dialog.

8. You may encounter occasions when Build processing stops and
gives you this message: "Indexing error. Indexing aborted."
This is most often caused by non-standard file formats or
faults in ZyINDEX' file format processing. Please call
ZyLAB tech support when this occurs and, if possible, make
available to us the file being added when the error occurred.

9. When using KWIC View, search results for fname= or eod can-
not contain valid contexts for "hits" on these terms. In
such a case the Search Results window displays "not found"
   instead of lines of context.
