LAN ASSIST for Windows Version 4.05 Release Information

Welcome to LAN ASSIST for Windows and DOS. LAN ASSIST for Windows
and DOS now provides Super VGA support on both the Host and
Viewer monitors. To determine the types of SVGA supported, refer to
   the following section.

SUPER VGA SUPPORT

LAN ASSIST supports most Super VGA 800 x 600, 16 Color Modes.
   Video Modes greater than 800 x 600, 16 colors (i.e., 800 x 600, 256
   colors or 1024 x 768 ARE NOT SUPPORTED. 640 x 480, 256 color mode
   is not currently supported.

If your workstation is configured for 1024 x 768 and you run
LAN ASSIST Setup, Windows may not be able to run. Exit and edit
your SYSTEM.INI to a lower resolution.

Once you have installed LAN ASSIST from the diskette a special
test program called VIDEOCHK.EXE can be found in the install
directory. If your video card does not appear on the list of
supported cards, you can run this program from the DOS prompt
to determine if we can support your particular card.

   NOTE:
If you change the video driver, mouse driver or keyboard driver
for Windows after you have installed LAN ASSIST you will have very
unpredictable results. You must uninstall LAN ASSIST first, then
change your driver and rerun Setup to reinstall your workstation.
If you know the name of the driver and want to change the INI file
directly without using Windows Setup then you must change the
LANASIST.INI file and NOT the SYSTEM.INI file.

Any problems experienced with proprietary video drivers can be
eliminated by using the 800x600x16 drivers that are supplied with
   Windows, SUPERVGA.DRV.

INSTALLATION INFORMATION

If you are using the Norton Desktop for Windows do not choose the
option to put Windows Chat in your start up group when installing
your workstation. If you want this option then enter it manually
   after the installation is complete.

The workstation install only needs to be run on the Host computer.
The viewer does not need the additional drivers in its SYSTEM.INI.

MOUSE SUPPORT

A mouse driver needs to be loaded before Windows on both the Host
   and the Viewer.

Mice that are not compatable with the Microsoft drivers cannot provide
mouse support in a "Windowed" session.

STANDARD MODE

You can assist a host running in Standard Windows mode if the machine
is a 386 or above and is running TBMI2. 286 machines running Standard
   mode Windows cannot be assisted.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

   1000 User Networks
If you wish to assist a user on a 1000 user network you must use
the DOS LAVIEWER program. The Windows version does not currently
support the 1000 users. Only the first 500 names will appear in
the list but you may assist any user with the command line options
   of LAVIEWER.

The ALT key on the Host computer may be 'stuck' in the down
position if the viewer uses Alt Esc or Alt Tab to switch to their
local Windows. The Host keyboard will appear frozen. If you
press the Alt key on the local Host computer keyboard and release
it or you switch back to the the assist session, the keyboard will
   resume normal function.
