Refreshing the screen display
=============================
Sometimes the Calendar Creator Plus screen does not "refresh"
properly, so the calendar window seems distorted. To correct
the distortion, click the arrow button on the right side
of the page icon on the status bar in the lower left corner
of the calendar window.

Saving event lists and workspaces
=================================
If you are creating a large event list or a complex
workspace, you should save your work frequently. To have
Calendar Creator Plus save event list changes automatically,
choose Edit | Preferences. Check the AutoSave Lists option
and specify a time interval. Note that this only saves the
event lists, not the workspace.

To save the workspace, choose File | Workspace and then Save
or Save As.

Entering events
===============
Event names
-----------
You must always enter an event name. Do not use spaces for an
event name. If you want the "event" to be just a picture or
special effect like Shade Day, with no text, use the insert
field &rem as the first characters of the event name.

Event times
-----------
When entering an event, you cannot specify a time period that
spans midnight: for example, 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. the next day.
If necessary, enter two events with the same name: one ending
at 11:59 p.m. and the other starting at 12:00 a.m. on the
second day.

Selecting multiple events
=========================
If you are using the event list window sorted by date, you
may experience problems when attempting to select multiple
events by using the mouse techniques ShiftClick, Click-Drag,
or ControlClick. To select multiple events with the mouse, sort
the event list by name.

Layouts
=======

Number of events per day
------------------------
A calendar can display up to 50 events per day. This mostly
affects the text and year layouts, which can display more
events than the others. If more than 50 events have been
entered for one day, a year or text layout will display only
the first 50.

Circle Dates On Small Calendars
-------------------------------
If you have turned this option on in Layout Options |
Appearance, the dates when events occur should be circled on
the small previous- and next-month reference calendars. When
you change an event date, the circled date on the small
calendar does not automatically show the new date on the
screen. It is correct in the printed calendar.

To correct the screen display, click the arrow button on the
left or right of the page icon on the status bar in the
lower left corner of the screen or temporarily change the
view or the layout.

Events with &rem at the start of the event name will not
appear in the calendar, but the days on which they occur will
be circled in the small calendars.

InstaBooks and organizer pages
==============================
All small calendars, both InstaBooks and calendars to be
printed on organizer replacement pages, require small
fonts and special margin settings to produce usable pages.
Selecting an InstaBook or organizer paper stock from the
list box in the Layout Options | Page Setup dialog box
automatically sets the calendar form size and margins for
you, but it does not change the font size. To achieve an
acceptable result, you may have to choose Layout Options
| Titles & Pictures to set the font size yourself.

Calendar Creator Plus provides several predefined
InstaBook or organizer workspaces to make it easier to
print small calendars. For example, if you open the
Insta12 workspace file, the form sizes, margins and
fonts are already set for a little booklet with 12
calendars on a page.

You can also create your own workspaces by changing the
settings in the Page Setup and Font dialog boxes. To learn
how to open and create workspaces, see "Basic concepts:
Workspaces" in Chapter 2 of the Calendar Creator Plus
User's Guide.

Sometimes it is hard to select text in small type in the
calendar window. Instead, choose Layout | Layout Options
| Titles & Pictures. Select the item you want from the
Item drop-down list, then press the Font button.

InstaBook assembly, 16 forms per page
-------------------------------------
If you define your own 16/page paper stock (not included with
the program), and use it to print an InstaBook, the assembly
instructions that appear in the dialog box at the end of the
printing process may not be correct. If you have chosen
Portrait Orientation and Top Binding, or Landscape Orientation
and Side Binding, follow these steps:

1. Lay out the calendars in the same order as they were
    when they came out of the printer and cut them as the dialog
    box directs.
2. Starting on the right, stack each set of calendars in the
    top row over the one to its left. Repeat the process with the
    bottom row.
3. Place the stack of calendars from the bottom row on top of
    the ones from the top row.
4. Fold the final stack in half and staple.

New versions of predefined event lists
======================================
The predefined event lists supplied with Calendar Creator
Plus 1.02 have been updated. If you installed these event
lists with Calendar Creator Plus 1.0 and have not changed
them since, the Setup program installs the new versions
when you select the Standard Event Lists option.

If you installed any or all of the event lists and have
made changes to them, Setup does not re-install them, since
that would undo your changes.

To learn which new event lists have been installed, use
the DOS Dir command or the Windows File Manager to check
the directory where you stored the predefined event lists.
Updated event lists have the date 10/14/92. Event lists
from version 1.0 are dated 10/13/92. Any event lists with
other dates have been edited since the installation of
version 1.0.

If you want to compare the new event lists to the old ones,
rename the ones you have changed before installing Calendar
Creator Plus 1.02 so that Setup will install the new lists.
You can then open both lists and compare their contents.

President Clinton's birthday
----------------------------
The updated event lists PRESIDNT.CCE and PRESDNT2.CCE include
President Clinton's picture and birthday. If you installed
these event lists with Calendar Creator Plus 1.0 and then
made changes to them, the new event will not appear in these
event lists after you install version 1.02. Here is the
information so you can add the event yourself:
     event name: Bill Clinton &Birthday
     starting date: 8/19/46
     repeats: every year
     style: Birthday

To add the President's picture to PowerAlbum, choose Picture |
Add To Album and select the file P42-BC.WMF.

PowerAlbum 1.02b
================
This release of Calendar Creator Plus (1.02) includes
a new version of PowerAlbum (1.02b). You can open and use any
of your old albums with the new version. However, someone
who is still using PowerAlbum 1.0 will not be able to open
albums created with version 1.02b. The remedy for this
situation is to upgrade all copies of Calendar Creator Plus
and PowerAlbum to the latest version.

Merging albums
--------------
If you are using PowerAlbum 1.02b and you want to merge an album
created with version 1.0 with an album created with version
1.02, be sure to merge the older album into the newer one.

1. Start PowerAlbum 1.02b and open the new album.
2. Choose File | Merge Albums and then select the older album.
    Follow instructions for merging albums in Appendix E of
    your Calendar Creator Plus manual.

Reducing the size of an earlier album
-------------------------------------
In PowerAlbum 1.02b, albums take less disk space to store than
they did before. To reduce the size of an album created in version
1.0, follow the above instructions, "Merging albums," to merge
the older album into a newer one. The resulting merged album will
be significantly smaller.

Printing small calendars and shaded backgrounds
===============================================
If you find that small calendars are printing in solid black,
or that a shaded calendar background does not print properly,
try choosing the Print In Black And White option in the
Print dialog box before you print.

Extended characters in Preferences pathnames
============================================
Don't enter extended characters, such as characters with
accents, in the Pictures and Event Lists default path fields
in the Preferences dialog box. If your pathname includes
letters that are normally accented, Calendar Creator Plus
will probably find the path if you enter the letters without
accents.

Network users
=============
This information supplements the instructions for installing
Calendar Creator Windows and PowerAlbum on networks in
Chapter 10 of the Calendar Creator Plus User's Guide.

Installing Calendar Creator Plus and PowerAlbum together
--------------------------------------------------------
In order to use PowerAlbum to choose pictures for calendars,
you must install the program files (the ones with filenames
ending in EXE and DLL) for both programs in the same directory.
The directory can be either on the user's local disk or in a
shared network directory.

If you already have a separate copy of PowerAlbum installed, you
can do one of these:
> install the Calendar Creator Windows program file in the
   same directory as the existing PowerAlbum
> install both Calendar Creator Windows and PowerAlbum in a new
   directory

Sharing event lists
-------------------
Event list files marked as read-only with the DOS Attrib
command and stored in a read-only directory will
automatically open as read-only files if you are running on
a Novell network.

An event list file marked as a read-write file stored in a
read-only directory will not automatically open as a
read-only file. However, when you try to save changes to the
files, a prompt asks you to use Save As so you can store it
in a read-write directory.

Windows for Workgroups users must check the read-only option in the
Open File dialog box in order to open a file stored in a read-only
directory.

Sharing workspaces and albums
-----------------------------
Workspaces contain the pathnames of event lists. When you
share a workspace file with other people on a network, the
event lists belonging to that workspace must be stored in
a shared directory that maps to the same pathname for each
person. For example, if the workspace DPTDATES.CCW includes
the event lists N:\EVENTS\MEETINGS.CCE and
N:\EVENTS\VACATION.CCE, all users must have exactly the same
path for both those files.

In the same way, albums contain the pathnames of graphics files.
When you share an album file, the graphics files whose
images appear in the album must be stored in a shared directory
that maps to the same pathname for each person.

On networks such as Windows for Workgroups, mapping a shared
directory to the same path for all users may be difficult. One
solution is to treat one person's machine as a server on which
all the shared event lists and art files are stored. Other users
can then use the same drive letter to designate the "server"
machine, so their pathnames are all the same. The owner of the
"server" has a slightly different path, so he or she cannot use
the workspace or album files shared by the rest. However,
since the event list and art files are on his or her machine,
he or she can open the files and create new workspaces and
albums without using the network.

MoreFonts users
===============
If you are running Windows 3.1, you need the version of
MoreFonts designed for Windows 3.1, or you will experience
various problems, such as Help not working. MoreFonts fonts
may not appear in color on non-PostScript color printers.

If MoreFonts fonts do not appear properly on the screen or
printed calendar, or do not change size properly, try
resetting some of the options in the MoreFonts control panel.
Select Print All Text As Graphics. If this does not help, try
one of these: select Use On The Fly Screen Fonts Taller Than
and decrease the number of pixels, or select Fix Screen Fonts
Taller Than and decrease the number of points.

BitStream FaceLift users
========================

When using BitStream FaceLift, you may notice some problems
with small font sizes on the screen and in your printed
calendars. To correct this, open the BitStream control panel
and set both threshold values to 2.

PostScript printer
------------------
You may experience some problems using PostScript printers
with BitStream FaceLift. Be sure you have the latest version
of FaceLift. If you still have problems, open the BitStream
control panel and select the Unassigned SHELL Driver option.

Font Aliases
------------
The Setup program should create proper font aliases for you
if you have TrueType, Adobe Type Manager(R), MoreFonts, or
BitStream FaceLift. If you do not have one of these font
managers, or if you experience problems with incorrect fonts
when you choose File | Workspace | New, you may have to edit
your POWERUP.INI file. The file is located in your Windows
directory. Use a text editor like Notepad to edit the file.
Locate the [Aliases] section in the file and enter the font
names your font manager uses for sans serif and serif type.
The following is an example:

[Aliases]
Modern=Helvet
Roman=Times

You must exit Calendar Creator Plus and restart it for the changes
to take effect. If you have TrueType installed, the font aliases
in your WIN.INI file will be used. If you have both TrueType and
ATM, the font aliases located in your ATM.INI file will be used.

WinFax PRO 3.0 users
====================
WinFax version 1.0 and 2.0 should work fine with Calendar
Creator Plus. However, WinFax PRO version 3.0 causes
problems when used with Calendar Creator Plus. Whichever
program is loaded first will work correctly, but the other
program will fail. To prevent errors, do not run these
programs at the same time. Contact WinFax PRO technical
support at Delrina Technology for further information or
send them a FAX at (416)441-0774 or (408)363-2340.
Be sure to include your name, mailing address, and WinFax
PRO registration number.

POWERUP.INI
===========
There are several options that you can set or add to your
POWERUP.INI file, located in your Windows directory, to
optimize the performance of Calendar Creator Plus. Make a
backup copy of the file before you start. Use a text editor
like Notepad to edit the file. You must exit Calendar Creator
Plus and restart it for the changes to take effect.

Here are the default values:

[Calendar Creator Windows]
MinWordLength=7
This is the minimum word length required, under normal
circumstances, to have Calendar Creator Plus hyphenate a word
that does not fit on a line. If you decrease the number,
Calendar Creator Plus will hyphenate shorter words. (Min=3,
Max=10)

HyphenZone=30
This is the size, in 1/100 of an inch, of the allowable space
that can be left at the end of a line without trying to
hyphenate words to fit in the space. If you decrease this
number, Calendar Creator Plus will hyphenate more words.
(Min=10, Max=100)

ColumnWidthTestString=NNNNNN
Enter a number of characters to specify how much space must
exist to the side of small pictures that are left- or right-
justified in order to place the event text next to the
picture. Calendar Creator Plus uses the width of the group of
characters in the event's font and type size to calculate the
space. If you decrease the number of characters, more event
names will appear to the side of small graphics, but they are
likely to be heavily hyphenated. (Min=2 characters, Max=10
characters)

EventMarginX=1
EventMarginY=1
These control the line space between events, and the margins
between events and the date box boundaries. The numbers are
in 1/100 of an inch. If you decrease the number, events will
appear closer together and closer to the date box boundary.
(Min=1, Max=20)

SecondLineIndentPercent=8
This is the percent of the column width that the second and
subsequent lines of event names will be indented. Decrease
the number to leave a smaller indent. (Min=0, Max=50)

ClipboardFormats=2
This controls the graphic file format in which the calendar
is placed on the Clipboard when you choose Edit | Copy
Calendar. Enter 1 for Bitmap, 2 for Metafile, or 3 for both.
Some applications accept pictures pasted from the Clipboard
better if they are bitmaps, others prefer metafiles.

If you are using a high resolution, 256-color video driver,
you may experience problems with the bitmap format. In that
case, you must use setting 2.

PrintPreview=0
This controls the display of text in the small print preview
calendars that appear in the Printing dialog. The default
setting of 0 turns off the display of text, showing only
pictures and lines. A setting of 1 will display the text
along with the pictures and lines.

If you are using video drivers that were not supplied with
Windows, you should leave this setting at 0 to avoid possible
problems. Otherwise, you may use a setting of 1 to display
the text.
