>>> *** WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! *** Central Point Software / PCTOOLS

         Central Point Software's PCTOOLS has a utility named DISKFIX which
         is used to detect hard drive and directory problems.
         DO NOT RUN THIS UTILITY ON A DRIVE MANAGED BY INFINITE DISK.
         This utility does not properlay interpret the access date which
         has been added to each and every file on your system. DISKFIX
         will delete every file on your hard drive which has an access
         date (all files!)
         Central Point is aware of this and is working with us on a fix
         for the problem.

>>>   SERIAL NUMBER

         When entering the ID interface you will be asked to enter in the
         serial number supplied on your registration card. This entry is
         case sensitive and the first two letters must be in caps for
         the system to accept the number.

>>>   CRITICAL SYSTEM FILES

         Certain system files must be present when booting your machine.
         These files are automatically marked as non-migratable by the
         PROTECT /C function together with the IDDRV.SYS device loaded
         in CONFIG.SYS. The IDDRV.SYS statement must be the first
         line in your config.sys. Do not remove these statements!
         Critical system files may be migrated as a result.

         The following list of files will be completely ignored by Infinite
         Disk. They will never be allowed to be migrated.

         COMMAND.COM    AUTOEXEC.BAT    CONFIG.SYS    SMARTDRV.EXE
         ID.EXE         IDMIG.EXE       IDRECALL.EXE  MIGRATE.EXE
         RECALL.EXE     IDIR.EXE        IDRES.EXE     IDSTATS.EXE
         PROTECT.EXE    UNINSTAL.EXE    ID.DAT        ID.INI
         SHOWHDR.EXE    AGE.EXE         IDCMD.EXE     ID.HLP
         IDSYNC.EXE     IDVXD.386       STATE.RST     ICOPY.EXE
         AUTOMIG.EXE    AUTOMIG.L1      AUTOMIG.L2    IDVA1.DAT
         IDVA2.DAT      IDVA3.DAT       IDDRV.SYS     EMM386.EXE

         If you do encounter the problem where your machine will not
         start-up due to migrated system files - DO NOT PANIC!!
         Reboot your machine from a DOS boot diskette and then issue the
         recall command for the needed file(s).

         Example:       C:\INFINITE\RECALL system.fil

>>>   SYSTEM STARTUP

         If you place the WIN statement or other shell type command in
         your autoexec.bat, it is important that the group of Infinite
         Disk commands placed in your autoexec.bat occur BEFORE the
         shell type statement. For example, if you see messages
         indicating that Infinite Disk loaded -- AFTER you exit Windows
         -- you must correct this problem by shifting the statements.

>>>   XCOPY COMMAND

         There is a limitation to using the DOS XCOPY command when using
         compressed files. If you attempt to use this command to copy
         files that are compressed, you may get truncated files as a
         result. Files must be recalled prior to using the xcopy command.
         We have a solution for this problem, but it will require that you
         execute the following statements before XCOPY will work properly.

         Get into the directory where XCOPY.EXE is located.
         (usually the DOS directory)
         Type in the following commands:

         RENAME XCOPY.EXE DXCOPY.EXE
         COPY C:\INFINITE\ICOPY.EXE (Assuming your Infinite dir is on C:)
         RENAME ICOPY.EXE XCOPY.EXE

>>>   DOS BOOT DISKETTE

         It is always a good idea to keep a bootable floppy diskette handy
         at all times. Infinite Disk will not ordinarily migrate files
         which are needed to reboot your system, however, it is possible
         for a determined individual to override these failsafes and migrate
         a critical file. In such a case, you would need a bootable diskette
         to restart your system.

         To create a bootable diskette, you need a blank formatted diskette
         for your "A" drive. Use the DOS format command (FORMAT A: /S)
         to create the boot diskette. To test the disk, insert in the
         "A" drive and reboot. You should be prompted for date and time
         and then come to an A prompt.

>>>   SELECTABLE COMPRESSION RATES

         You may now choose between 3 separate compression rates with
         corresponding performance rates. (e.g. FAST, FASTER, FASTEST)
         Use the configure option under ID to select your preferred rate.
         The former default was FAST which means maximum compression.

         You may change the compression rate at any time without impacting
         the recall or decompression process.

>>>   MICROSOFT WINDOWS SUPPORT

         Do not leave the ID interface running under DOS in the background
         while in windows. REASON: When you enter the ID interface,
         the Infinite Disk TSR (which does real-time file aging and dynamic
         recall) gets suspended, so when you swap to do other business in a
         different window, a file that may need to be recalled from
         migration will not be automatically recalled. Files that you
         use will not get aged also.
         To simplify, just exit the ID interface when your done using it.
         The TSR will then resume operation.

         If you have another disk cache utility available, we highly
         recommend using it instead of SMARTDRIVE that is supplied with
         Windows. You will see a vast improvement in system speed.

         We have also made substantial improvements in system performance.
         You should not be aware of the Infinite Disk TSR (which does
         real-time file aging). Benchmarks show very minimal overhead
         (far less than popular compression products!!) If you do detect
         any degradation, please let us know. You may have a unique
         situation.

>>>   COMPRESSION UTILITIES

         STACKER - DOUBLE DISK - SUPERSTOR - ETC.

         These products define device drivers or virtual disk drives
         to store compressed data within. We have completed improvements
         to our TSR to support compressed drives as managed drives.

         Users who are currently managing their hard drive by another
         disk compression utility must follow some simple procedures
         outlined below.

     1. DO NOT MANAGE THE UNCOMPRESSED DRIVE.
     2. Move the line with IDDRV.SYS that was inserted into your
            CONFIG.SYS to follow the line that performs the drive letter swap.

         If you are unsure...call for support at (404) 339-1812.

         We cannot guarantee support of all versions of all compression
         products. Infinite Disk has been designed to be compatible with
         ALL software products and has been verified to be compatible with
         the more popular compression products including SuperStorPRO and
         Stacker version 3 and DOS 6. WE RECOMMEND that you take the extra
         precaution of backing up your hard drive before installing
         Infinite Disk together with another compression utility.

         Generally, you may see some small improvement in compression with
         Infinite Disk as files are migrated to level 1 (compressed in place).
         However, tremendous gains can be realized by migrating unused files
         from your compressed drive to an offline media.

>>>   PERFORMANCE

         Most all of the file processing functions that come with Infinite
         Disk will now operate 10 to 100 times faster than version 1.0.
         These functions make extensive use of memory, buffers, etc.

          If you are still noticing performance slowdowns using Infinite Disk
          functions or, for example, Windows startup, then please consider
          the following:

          1) The single greatest gains in performance on your system,
               overall, will be due to the addition of an effective disk
               caching product. Unfortunately, SMARTDRIVE is not a very
               effective cache utility and we highly recommend almost any
               other cache utility instead.

           2) Fragmentation is also a major cause of disk drive slowdown.
               Consider running a DEFRAG utility such as Norton's SpeedDisk,
               or some equivilent product.

>>>   LEVEL 2 ARCHIVE DISKETTES

         Diskettes to be used for level 2 archival must be formatted and
         empty with no internal label. If you wish to use a previously used
         diskette as an archive volume, it is best to first reformat the
         diskette. Alternatively, you may delete any existing internal
         label using the LABEL command at the DOS prompt.

>>>   NETWORK USERS

         Users who will be using the network drive as their level 2
         migration. You must specify a sub directory unique to you.
         Infinite disk will give everyone a default archive path.

         Example: E:\IDARC\

         If all users on the network use the same sub directory,
         you will over-write each others files.
         Create your own sub directory to protect your files.

         Example: E:\USERX\IDARC\
