THE NEW PRINT SHOP ADDENDUM FOR VERSION 3.3

Thank you for purchasing The New Print Shop, version
3.3. This addendum explains some important new features that have
been added to this version. For other features, please refer to
The New Print Shop Reference Manual.

The New Print Shop now gives you a number of new
features such as color on screen (including previews, which are
now faster in this update). And now you no longer need to press
Alt-F10 for a color preview; if you have a color monitor and
printer, you can preview in color at any time.

We have added WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get)
text input so you can see what your text will look like as you
type it. We've also made color selection easier for you. Bit-
mapped fonts are smoother. And if you use a VGA monitor you will
now have true VGA support. Some of these new features are
explained in step-by-step detail below.

We have included answers to some frequently asked
questions from customers regarding The New Print Shop. Please see
the section titled "Answers to Frequently Asked Questions" in
this addendum.

EASIER COLOR SELECTION

If you have a color printer, it is now easier to select
colors for borders, graphics and text. Instead of using the
Customize menu choice, you can select colors while you are
selecting your graphics or borders or entering your text. (If you
do not select a color printer, the following steps will not be
available.)

MONOCHROME BORDERS
To select a border, see page 21 of the Reference Manual. A new
color menu has been added. To select a color for your border, do
the following.

      1. Select a monochrome border.

      2. A color menu will appear on screen. Choose from the eight
colors listed, including a new rainbow choice that
         appears last, after green.

MONOCHROME GRAPHICS

To select a graphic, see page 22 of the Reference Manual. After
selecting a layout, select a color for your graphic by doing the
following.

           1. Select a monochrome graphic.

      2. Under the "Change Graphic" menu, press F2 to change the
color. Each time you press F2, the color will change.
Keep pressing F2 until the graphic is the color you want,
including a new rainbow choice that appears last, after
         green.

      3. Repeat this procedure for any other monochrome graphics
         you wish to color.

TEXT

For instructions on typing your message, see page 24 of
the Reference Manual. Repeat this procedure for each line of text
you wish to color.

           1. Choose a font and style.

           2. Type your text.

           3. Move the cursor to the line of text whose color you
              want to change.

      4. Press F2 to change the color of that line of text. Each
time you press F2, the color will change. You can also
look beneath the Edit Commands to read the color
currently chosen for that line of text. Continue pressing
F2 until the text is the color you want it to be.

NEW FONT STYLES

In addition to the five font styles already in The New Print Shop,
three more have been added: Chunky, Block and Emboss. Page 25
of the Reference Manual explains how to change font styles. After
you select the font, the style menu will appear. The three new
styles are at the end of the list, after Shadow.

     1. If you wish, select a border and graphic.

     2. Select Message.

     3. Choose a Font.

     4. Select a Style by highlighting the one you want and
        pressing ENTER.

      5. You may change styles when in the text entry mode by
pressing F4 under the Edit Commands menu.

SMOOTHER BIT-MAPPED FONTS

Fonts are now smoother in banners and in signs when you
double the size (by pressing the F5 function key).

      1. If you wish, select a graphic.

       2. Select the banner layout you want to use (one line of
text, two equal lines of text, etc.)

        3. Select the font and font style.

        4. Enter your text.

         5. Modify your text by choosing a new color, font, or
            style.

         6. Print your banner.

SIGNS
           1. Create a sign; select a border and graphics if you
               wish.

           2. Select a font and style.

           3. Type your text.

           4. Select the line of text you wish to double in size
by moving the cursor to that line.

           5. Press the F5 function key to double the size of the
              font.

           6. Print your sign.
SUBDIRECTORY SUPPORT WHEN SAVING

In previous versions you have only been able to change disk
drives. Now you can change OR RETRIEVING FILES to any directory
on your hard disk when saving or retrieving files. This will work
with graphics, Saving fonts, and your own saved files. For
example, to save to a different directory on your hard disk do the
following:

     1. Select Print or Save from the Project menu.

     2. Select Save Design.

     3. Type the title of your design.

     4. Press F9 to change drives.

     5. Select the drive to change to (A, B, C or other drives).

     6. Select "Current Path" or "Previous Path" to save to.

     7. If you choose "Previous Path", a list of subdirectories in
the current drive will appear. Select the subdirectory
you wish to save to. "Current Path" takes you to the
        current directory.

DELETING SAVED DOCUMENTS

Also new in version 3.3 is the ability to delete a saved item
from within The New Print Shop.

You no longer have to exit The New Print Shop and delete a
saved project from ther DOS promput. To delete a document, select
a project from the main menu (greeting card, sign, etc.) On the
next screen there is a fourth choice: Delete a Saved Item. When
you select this, you will get a list of all the documents of this
type that you have saved. Select the file you want to delete
and press ENTER. You will be given a chance to confirm that you
really want to delete that file before the program deletes it.

MONITOR

The New Print Shop attempts to sense which type of monitor is
attached to your computer MONOCHROMEI COLOR when it starts. You
can go into Setup to override the choice in case there are
problems or if you PARAMETER IN SETUP just prefer a different
setting.

 MONITOR SELECTION IN SETUP

      1. At the Main Menu, select Setup.

      2. Select Color or Mono Display.

      3. Select Default Display, Force Mono/LCD Display, or Force
         Color Display. Select Force
Mono or Force Color to override the default.

USING THE CONVERT PROGRAM WITH THE NEW PRINT SHOP

The New Print Shop comes with a utility that allows you
to use graphics from the original versions of The Print Shop, The
Print Shop Companions the Graphics Libraries and graphics that you
have created yourself. (The Print Shop Deluxe graphics cannot be
converted into New Print Shop graphics.) It can also convert
graphics from other publishers or organizations, as long as The
Print Shop file formats have been followed correctly.

In addition, if you do not have a color printer, but
would like to use some of the multicolor graphics that come with
The New Print Shop or its Graphics Libraries, you can convert them
to single color for use with your system. (NOTE: The
multicolor versions of the graphics will remain unchanged and
useable if you later have access to a color printer.)

To use the CONVERT utility, follow these easy steps:

      1. Since New Print Shop files are compressed, you must
install The New Print Shop before using the Convert
program. To run the Convert program, change to
The New Print Shop directory, by typing CD\NEWPS (or the
name you gave the directory, if different) and press
         ENTER.

      2. Type CONVERT and press ENTER. Press the Spacebar after
         reading the welcome message.

      3. Choose between converting original graphics or multicolor
graphics by moving the high- light with the arrow keys
         and pressing ENTER.

      4. Choose the type of graphic element to convert.

a If you are converting original graphics, choose among
borders, graphics or fonts.

b If you are converting multicolor graphics, choose among
graphics, full panels or wide borders. If you are converting full
panels, you will also have to choose among vertical, horizontal,
or letterhead full panels.

      5. Select the disk drive (and directory, if necessary) from
which you would like to convert files.

a The program will list all the disk drives available on
your system. Select the drive that contains your original or
multicolor graphics.

b The program will list all the directories on your disk.
Select the directory that contains your original or multicolor
graphics by using the arrow keys and the ENTER key. If there are
no files of the type you have requested in the directory you have
chosen, the program will report "No Files" in that directory.

      6. Using the Spacebar or the F1 key, select the files you
         would like to convert.

a Pressing the Spacebar selects one file at a time.
Pressing F1 selects all the files in the current directory at
once.

b As soon as you press either the Spacebar or F1, notice
that a prompt appears on the bottom of the screen, telling you to
press F10 to convert the selected files.

         7. Press F10 when you have finished selecting files to
            convert.

      8. Select the disk drive (and directory, if necessary) into
which you would like to put the converted files.

The program will list all the disk drives available on
your system. Select the drive into which you would like to place
your converted graphics.

NOTE: If you are using a hard disk, the program will list
all the directories on your hard disk. Notice that the directory
you are currently in is highlighted at the bottom of the screen.
Be sure that the directory you want your converted graphics to go
into is listed in the highlighted area.
You must press ENTER after you put the highlight bar on
the directory of your choice. For instance, if you want to place
the converted graphics into the NEWPS directory on your hard disk,
which is drive C, be sure that the highlighted area at the bottom
of the screen says "C:\NEWPS\". If it only says "C:\", you will
end up copying the graphics into your root directory, which could
cause some confusion later on.

The message, "There are no more subdirectories', simply
means that you have run out of subdirectory choices in the current
directory. You then have two options: you can press F10 to place
the graphics in that directory; or you can press Escape to back up
and try a different directory.

      9. Press F10 to begin the conversion process.

     10. Some graphic elements require you to type a new name to
avoid duplicate files. You will need to do this if you
are converting borders (both thin and wide), graphics, or
         full panels.

     11. After the conversion is complete, the program will return
to the list of graphic elements.
To convert additional elements, repeat steps 4 through

If you are finished converting graphics, press Escape to
return to the Main Menu. Then select "Exit" to return to DOS.

That's all there is to it. From now on, when you use
The New Print Shop your converted graphics will be available.

ANSWERS TO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: How do I locate full panel graphics?
A: At the Project menu, select Graphic. At the Select
Graphic Layout menu, choose Full Panel. Then select
the full panel graphic you wish to use.

Q: How do I locate color graphics?
A: A color printer must be selected in Setup before you
can select or view the color graphics.
If you do not have a color printer, you can convert the
color graphics to monochrome using the Convert
         instructions in this addendum.

Q: Why does my printer print out strange characters
            ("garbage")?
A: There are a number of possibilities, but most often it
is because the wrong printer is selected. To choose
your printer, go into Setup at the Main Menu and
select it. After selecting the printer, choose Save
Setup from the Setup menu. Now, whenever you load The
New Print Shop, the printer you selected will be the
            default printer.

Q: What do I do when my printer is not listed in the
printer list that is in the program?
A: Find out from your printer manual which printer your
            printer emulates. Then select that
printer. If that does not work, use the following
            table as a guide:

Q: Why doesn't my project print at 300 dpi (dots per
            inch) on my laser printer?
A: The laser printer may not have enough memory to print
the project at 300dpi. Select 150dpi or 75dpi. You
could also increase the memory in the printer by
            purchasing some from your dealer.

Q: Why do I not have enough memory to select a color
            printer when I have 640K?
A: The New Print Shop can only access the 640K of
conventional memory, not extended or expanded memory.
In addition, any device drivers or memory-resident
programs use up some of the conventional memory. The
New Print Shop requires 405K (514K for color) of
conventional memory in order to start. You can see how
much memory you have by using the DOS CHKDSK or MEM
command. If you need more memos, try removing some
device drivers and memory-resident programs. Or, you
can boot your computer from a bootable floppy disk
that only has the system files on it. To create a
bootable floppy disk, type FORMAT A:/S from the DOS
            prompt.

Q: Why doesn't my mouse work with The New Print Shop?
A If you had your mouse driver loaded into high memory,
The New Print Shop previously could not use it. This has
been fixed with this new version.

Q: Why do greeting cards and signs print off center on
the Hewlett Packard Desk Jet 500C and 550C?
A: When printing greeting cards and signs to the Hewlett-
Packard Desk Jet 500C or 550C, you will need to cut a
little piece off the bottom of your greeting card or
off the top of your sign in order for the output to be
perfectly centered. This is because of the printer's
paper feed mechanism, which needs approximately one-
half inch to grip the paper.
