WHAT'S NEW IN VERSION 1.1
-------------------------
Version 1.1 includes several new features suggested by our users:

	* The Log and Graph can show daily, weekly, or monthly totals.
	* Calculates calories burned for common activities.
	* Off days can now be entered and tracked.
	* "Spin buttons" added to all Diary panel fields.
	* Editing the name of an existing athlete.
	* Calendar window can show detailed totals for a single activity
	* Training calendar is available
	* and more...

These new features are described in the TIPS AND SUGGESTIONS and
REVISIONS TO PRINTED DOCUMENTATION sections below. As you use
WinTrainer, we welcome and encourage your suggestions for future
updates.

INSTALLATION
------------
This version of WinTrainer requires Microsoft Windows 3.0 or
higher to run. Windows 3.1 is recommended for best performance.

The files on the WinTrainer diskette are in a compressed format
and must be installed using the setup program. DO NOT COPY THE
FILES FROM THE DISKETTE DIRECTLY TO YOUR HARD DISK.

To run the setup program, start Windows. From the Program
Manager, choose RUN from the FILE menu. At the prompt, enter
either A:SETUP or B:SETUP, depending on which drive contains
the WinTrainer diskette. The Setup program will load. Answer
the questions it asks, and WinTrainer will install automatically.

IF YOU HAVE INSTALLATION PROBLEMS
---------------------------------
A small number of users have reported problems where the install
program SETUP.EXE does not work properly. These appear to be
due to either a bad diskette or to incompatibility with some
aspect of their hardware or other software.

If this happens to you, we have provided an alternative
installation procedure which runs from the DOS command line.
Follow these steps:

	1) Go to the DOS command line prompt.

	2) Insert the WinTrainer diskette in the A or B drive.

	3) Change to that drive by typing A: or B: then press
	   ENTER.

	4) Type BYPASS C then press ENTER. In place of the
letter C type the letter of the drive where Windows
is installed on your system, if it is different from
	   drive C.

The installation program will create the directory
\WINTRAIN on the specified drive and install the
WinTrainer program there. If the Windows directory
cannot be located on that drive, an error message
will display. Try again with a different drive
letter. IMPORTANT NOTE - Bypass installation has no
way of checking for available space on your drive.
Make sure you have at least 2 MB free space on your
Windows hard drive before running the Bypass
	   installation program.

	5) Once the Bypass installation is complete, remove the
	   WinTrainer diskette and start Windows.

	6) Bypass installation does not create an icon in the
program manager, so you must do that now. Select
the program group you wish to add WinTrainer to, by
clicking once on any other icon in that group.

	7) Choose New... from the program manager File Menu.
	   A dialog box will display.

	8) Choose Program Item from the dialog box, then click
OK. The Program Item Properties dialog box displays.

	9) Type WinTrainer in the Description textbox. Tab to
the next textbox and type WINTRAIN.EXE. Tab to the
third textbox and type \WINTRAIN\. (As an alterna-
tive to typing in the second and third textboxes,
you can click the Browse button and browse for the
program WINTRAIN.EXE) You can leave the fourth text-
box empty. Click the OK button when you are done.
The Bill Rodgers WinTrainer icon will be added to
Program Manager, and WinTrainer is ready to use.

REMOVING WINTRAINER FROM YOUR SYSTEM
------------------------------------
If you ever need to remove WinTrainer from your system, follow
these steps to remove all files and reclaim the maximum disk
space:

	1) Make a backup copy of the WinTrainer data files (all
files in the WinTrainer directory with extensions
	   .DBF, .CDX, and .FPT).

	2) Delete all files in the WinTrain and
	   WinTrain\Sample directories.

	3) Delete the following files from your Windows\System
	   directory:
		GRID.VBX
		GRAPH.VBX
		SPIN.VBX
		THREED.VBX
		SS3D2.VBX
		M4UTIL.DLL
		M4FOXDEB.DLL
		GSWDLL.DLL

Be careful when deleting these files - there may be
other files with similar names that are needed by
	   other Windows applications.

	4) Delete the WinTrainer icon and Program Group from the
Windows Program Manager (single-click, then press the
	   Delete key, on each one).

TIPS AND SUGGESTIONS
--------------------
Tracking Nautilus and similar exercise programs

It's easy to track Nautilus-style exercises in WinTrainer.
Simply add "Nautilus" to the Activity List, as a Set/Rep
activity. Then add each exercise or machine to the Event/
Course List, choosing Nautilus as the activity. Leave the
Weight blank when setting up each activity. If you wish
to track weight or equipment settings when logging each
workout, record them in the Weight or User Amount fields
of the Log a Workout window.

Tracking the time of day for runs and workouts

To keep track of what time you ran or exercised, use the
User Amt field in the Log a Workout window, and enter the
hour (1-12) or the hour and minute (for example 1215 for
12:15). The User Amt field allows entry of digits only,
	with no punctuation characters.

Tracking Off days

To keep track of days off for activities that you perform
almost every day (like running), add a new Event/Course
called "Off" or "No Run" for that activity. Mileage
should be 0. On an off day, log a workout and select that
Event/Course. For Workout Type, select "Off day" - you may
need to add this to the Workout Type drop-down list. By
specifying a Workout Type of Off Day, you will be able to
exclude off days from the graph and log panels (see New
	Features, below).

If you want to track days off for several activities, such
as running and swimming, you must set up an "off" event/
course for each one. Each one must have a different
Event/Course name. We suggest "No Run", "No Swim", etc.

Tracking Calorie Burn

To set WinTrainer up to track the calorie burn for each
workout, choose Preferences from the File menu. Move to
the "Customizable Fields - Log" section and change the
fields to "Cal burn" or "Calories" (or anything else that
starts with "Cal"). Click OK to save.

When you log a workout, WinTrainer will calculate the
calories burned, based on the number of minutes you
exercised, your effort level (Workout Type field) or pace,
and your weight. WinTrainer knows how to calculate
calorie burn for many common aerobic activities. As you
log a workout, if you reach the calories textbox and it is
blank or zero, it means that WinTrainer doesn't know how
to calculate calories for this activity. If you have
a calorie burn chart for that activity, you can enter the
	amount manually.

Editing an Athlete's name

If you ever set up an athlete, then later discover that
you have misspelled the name (it can happen!), a special
name correction feature is now available. (Ordinarily, it
is not possible to change the Name field of any of the
	Lists, like Activities, Events, etc.)

In the Button Bar, select the athlete whose name you wish
to change. Then select Athletes from the Lists menu.
When the Athlete Window appears, make sure the right
athlete shows in the Name field, then move to the Resting
Pulse textbox and enter 9999. Press TAB, and the cursor
will jump back to the Name field, where you can now edit
the name. Click OK to save your change. Note that
Resting Pulse is automatically set back to its previous
	value.

Showing Daily, Weekly, or Monthly Totals

See "New Features" in the next section.

Faster entry of Times

When entering times, such as total workout time or split
times, you may press the plus key or the semicolon key
in place of the colon to separate hours, minutes, and
seconds. This allows entry of time without using the
shift key or taking hands off the numeric keypad. The
colon key can still be used as well.

REVISIONS TO DOCUMENTATION
--------------------------

New features

An "Activity" drop box has been added to the Button Bar.
This drop box duplicates the function of the Activity
drop box in the Select/Extract Data window. Selecting
an activity in either drop box causes the Log and Graph
panels to display data for only the selected activity.
The Activity drop box on the Button Bar is a more
convenient way to do this, and provides a handy visual
reminder of what data is being shown. The activity
selected is also used to determine what data is shown
in the Totals view of the Calendar window. (pages 6, 45)

A new section has been added to the Select/Extract Data
window. You may now specify Individual Workouts, Daily
Totals, Weekly or Monthly Totals. Select Daily, Weekly
or Monthly Totals to show totals, rather than individual
workouts, in the Log and Graph panels. (Hint - you can
print these totals using the Custom Log report.)
Note - while Totals are selected, the Stats panel is un-
available. An "All except" checkbox has been added to the
Workout Type selection on the Select/Extract Data window.
This allows exclusion of classes of workouts, such as
races or days off, from the Log and Graph. (pages 45-47)

Two new features have been added to the diary panel.
Whenever the cursor is in the date box, press T (for
"Today") to change directly to today's date. And when
double-clicking on a workout in the Log panel, the diary
panel changes to show the data for the date of the
	workout you selected.

Terminology and name changes

The names or captions of several items on the screen have
been changed to make their meaning clearer. You may wish
to note these changes in the manual.

The "Log an Activity" button is now "Log a Workout"
	(pages 13, 14, 40, and 41).

The "Activity Log" window is now called "Add a Workout" or
	"Edit / View a Workout" (pages 15, 41 and 64).

Corrections to manual

Pg. 13 - Step 1 under "Logging Information" should read
		 "Type 4/22/75", not 4/02/75. Step 2 should
instruct you to type H for Humid, and all
references to the Cloudy icon should say "Humid".
