MicroProse Entertainment Pack Vol. #1: Dr. Floyd's Desktop Toys

Thank you for purchasing "Dr. Floyd's Desktop Toys". We at
MicroProse have worked many months with many late nights to
develop this product for you. If you did not purchase this copy,
we request that you please go to your nearest software retailer
and do so. We rely on your purchases to keep us employed, so we
can make more software for your enjoyment.

MEMORY PROBLEMS
We recommend that you run Windows in "386 Enhanced Mode" for best
performance and use of memory. In particular, if you have a PC
with only 2 MB of RAM installed, you will need to be in 386
Enhanced Mode to run many of the programs in "Dr. Floyd's Desktop
Toys." The simplest way to do this is to start your Windows
environment by typing "win /3". See your Windows User's Guide
for more information on memory usage and the 386 Enhanced mode.

SOUND SUPPORT (Windows 3.1 or later only)
We highly recommend the use of a sound board with "Dr. Floyd's
Desktop Toys". If your computer has no sound board installed
(i.e. you only have the PC's built in speaker), we have included a
PC Speaker Driver on Disk B. We believe this one works better
than Microsoft's PC Speaker Driver. On some computers, Dr.
Floyd's speech synthesizer will not work with the Microsoft PC
Speaker Driver, but will work with the Speaker Driver on Disk B.
Before you install this driver, read the file "SPEAKER.TXT" on
Disk B.

We have also included Microsoft's PC Speaker Driver on Disk A.
Before using Microsoft's PC Speaker Driver, read the files
"AUDIO.TXT", "LICENSE.TXT", and "SPEAKER.TXT" on Disk A.
See the instruction sheet that accompanies this program for more
information on installing either of the PC Speaker sound drivers.

SCREEN SAVERS
Included with "Dr. Floyd's Desktop Toys" are several screen saver
modules. They are:

Spiders - generates webs as in our WebSpinners game.
Cipher - displays an encrypted quote and decrypts it.
Plasma - generates swirls of constantly changing colors.
MPS Slides - displays screen shots from some of our other
MicroProse games.

These modules can be run using either "After Dark" or the Screen
Saver that comes in Windows 3.1. To run these, you must have the
module files installed in the right directory. Our Setup program
copies "After Dark" modules into the directory with "After Dark",
or Windows 3.1 modules into your Windows directory. Read the
documentation that came with Windows or "After Dark" to activate
the modules. (By the way, our lawyers remind us that "After
Dark" is a trademark of Berkeley Systems.)

DE-INSTALL PROGRAM (Windows 3.1 or later only)
We have included a program that makes it easy for you to remove
any of the programs in "Dr. Floyd's Desktop Toys". Of course, we
hope that you never have to use it. If you do find yourself
running out of space on your hard drive, run our "DeInstall"
program, and it will selectively remove any or all of the
programs and their associated data files. Be sure that you are
not running "Dr. Floyd" or any of our screen saver modules at the
time you attempt to deinstall them.

WINDOWS 3.0 AND PENTOMINOES
Due to a bug in Windows 3.0, the left panel puzzle display in
Pentominoes may be garbled by selecting several puzzles in a row.
Scrolling the puzzle will refresh the display and show the puzzles
clearly again. If you find this to be a nuisance, we recommend
upgrading to Windows v3.1.

IF YOU USE A DIAMOND SPEEDSTAR VIDEO DRIVER
There is a bug in Diamond Speedstar's Video Driver that does not
allow the Jigsaw Puzzle to rotate pieces correctly. If you have
this problem, switch your video driver to one of the standard
video drivers that comes with Microsoft Windows.
