DoThumbnail version 1, November 19, 1992

This README file contains late-breaking information
that we were not able to include in the manual.

IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!

On page 29 of your DoThumbnail User's Guide there are
explanations of various useful DoThumbnail options such as
database compression and thumbnail size. These parameters
may be specified in the file Halcyon.ini which may be
found in the \halcyon directory after installation. These
options will be configurable from within the program in
the next release.

Here is a clarification to the "storeimport" explanation:

storeimport:	If this is set to 0, DoThumbnail will
store ALL imported images in the thumb-
nail database. This makes for REALLY
BIG DATABASES but it also makes them
		portable--i.e. you can transfer them
to another machine and still be able
		to view the images.

If this is set to -1, DoThumbnail wil
store NONE of the imported images. This
makes for much more manageable database
		sizes but limits portability.

If this is set to N, with N being a non-
zero integer, DoThumbnail will store the
only if it takes longer than N seconds to
		import that image.

A Note on Screen Drivers:

Please note that the thumbnail images are created using the color
depth of the screen drivers. In other words, if you're using 16
color screen drivers (4 bits per pixel), the resulting database
will be half the size of the database created using 256 color
(8 bits per pixel) drivers. Similarly, 24 bit drivers will create
databases 3 TIMES larger than 256 color (8 bit) drivers.

A Note on Importing Vector Files:

Keep a close eye on system resources when importing larges number
of vector format graphics. In addition, it's usually prudent to
import vector files in small groups of 10 to 15 rather than in mas-
sive quantities, as one bad file could ruin an entire database.

Sample Files:

Please diregard references to sample files made in the
manual. The tutorial uses the bitmap files already pre-
sent in the \windows directory.
