     Vermont Microsystems products:

        1. 100% VESA compatible SVGA's
        2. 100% TIGA 2.X compatible adapters
        3. Tseng Labs ET4000 based SVGA with minimum of 1 Meg ram.
        4. S3 86C911 based SVGA's with minimum of 1 Meg ram.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. SOFTWARE COMPATIBILITY:

        A. AutoShade 2.X
        B. 3D-Studio Release 1 & 2

Note: If you wish to run AutoCAD Release 12, 11 or 10 (P386) then you
must install the driver from the "AutoMate/PRO for DOS" disk.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

6. CONFIGURING 3D-Studio:

    a. Before you configure 3D-Studio for AutoMate, erase the file 3DADI.CFG
(if it exists) from your 3D-Studio directory.

    b. To begin the configuration just go to your 3DS directory and type
3DS. This will automatically put you into the configuration utility.
The configuration will ask several questions which must be answered
correctly for AutoMate to work correctly with 3D-Studio.

    c. The first question asked is:

Does your computer have a VGA or SVGA board?

Just answer the question by typing "Y" or "N".

    d. The next question is:

Will RDPADI render on a seperate screen (Y)?

You must enter "Y" for yes.

    e. Next you will be asked to:

         "Select Rendering Mode"

Enter "0" for 256 color mode.
       Enter "1" for RenderReady mode.

RenderReady mode gives you a percieved 24-bit color image.

Refer to your AutoMate/PRO users guide for more information
         on RenderReady.

    f. Next you will be asked to:

         "Select the VMI-2X default mode"

Enter "0" for default mode off.
Enter "1" for default mode on.

VMI-2X allows you to render at half the configured resolution
but will give you an image that looks like the configured
resolution. The advantage of this mode is that it will render much
faster than if you rendered at the full resolution.

Refer to your AutoMate/PRO users guide for more information
         on VMI-2X.

    g. The next question is:

Will RCPADI render on a seperate screen (unlikely) (N)?

You must enter "N" for no.

    h. Next you will again be asked to:

         "Select Rendering Mode"

Enter "0" for 256 color mode.
       Enter "1" for RenderReady mode.

    i. Next you will again be asked to:

         "Select the VMI-2X default mode"

Enter "0" for default mode off.
Enter "1" for default mode on.

    j. Finally your 3D-Studio screen will come up and you are ready to begin
       using 3D-Studio.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

7. CONFIGURING AutoShade 2.X:

    a. To begin the AutoShade configuration, go to the SHADE directory
       and type:

                        SHADE /r

The configuration will ask several questions which must be answered
correctly for AutoMate to work correctly with AutoShade 2.X.

    b. The first question asks you to:

         Select pointing device.

Enter the appropriate option for your system.

    c. The next question asks you to:

         Select display device.

Enter option 2 (P386 ADI display driver)

    d. The next question asks you to:

         Select rendering display device.

Enter option 2 (P386 ADI rendering driver)

Do display and AutoShade rendering devices share a single screen?

You must answer "Y" for yes.

    h. The next question is:

Do display and Autodesk renderman rendering devices share a single
         screen?

You must answer "Y" for yes.

    i. The next question is:

         Does Flipscreen require a redraw?

       Enter "N" for no.

    j. The next question asks you to:

Select the rendering hard copy device.

Enter the appropriate option for your system.

    k. Finally your AutoShade screen will come up and you are ready to begin
       using AutoShade.
