1. Changes to the Program
     ======================

New dialog for New, Modify, or Delete command
     ---------------------------------------------
The dialog for the New, Modify, or Delete command has
been rearranged slightly to clarify the way it works.
Whether a new section is placed in the body of
each pagination layout depends on the state of the
checkbox labeled "Add new section to body pane of every
     pagination layout."

     * If the box is checked when the Insert New button
is pressed, the created section is immediately
placed in the body of all pagination layouts.
           Its name is "untitled."

     * If the box is not checked when the Insert New
button is pressed, the section will not be
           added.

     New dialog for Clear command
     ----------------------------
When you select Clear from the Section menu in the
Structure window, you have the option of clearing:
     1. Just fields.
     2. Both fields and criteria.
There is no option to clear just criteria, leaving the
field definitions. This option was removed because it
     seemed confusing and not useful.

2. Changes to the documentation
     ============================

     MEMCHG
     ------
The included utility MEMCHG is documented at the end of
     this README document.

Samples from "What is a Report" included
     ----------------------------------------
A directory called SAMPLES is created by the
installation program. In here are the text files and
styled reports from the chapter "What is a Report."

These samples work best with fonts from Windows 3.1. If
you find the text looks odd, you may change the
typeface of each section or field.

3. Clarifications
     ==============

     Autoguess only applies to LEARN
     -------------------------------
If you have chosen Allow Autoguess, Report Styler will
automatically guess fields whenever you LEARN another
     example of a section.
Autoguess applies to the LEARN SECTION command
only. In particular, Report Styler does not guess
     fields when:
     1. You edit the criteria in the criteria editor.
     2. You use the Import Structure command.
In these cases, you can force guessing by using the
     Guess Now command.

How logical values are stored in common database files
     ------------------------------------------------------
When you include a logical field using Database-direct,
Report Styler places a "1" in the report if the field's
value is TRUE and a "0" if false.

When using WHERE with logical fields, you may use any
of these forms (not just .T. or .F. as the manual
     states)
           TRUE: .T. or .t. or .Y. or .y.
           FALSE: .F. or .f. or .N. or .n.

Different database files store and let you enter
     logical values differently.

     Excel:
Entered and displayed as "TRUE" or "FALSE" (capitalized
for you). Caution: In Excel you CAN enter a value of
"t" or any letter you like into what seems to be a
logical cell. At that point the cell becomes read as a
     Character field, not a Logical.

     dBASE III and IV:
Stored as T or F (capped for you).

     Alpha FOUR:
Although Alpha FOUR recognizes and stores logical
fields in either upper (T/F/Y/N) or lower case
(t/f/y/n), Report Styler only matches the upper case
version. Any logical field in Alpha FOUR that contains
lower case is read as false by Report Styler.

5. Known problems
     ==============

Help for file commands in Windows 3.0
     -------------------------------------
If you use Windows 3.0 and ask for help in the dialog
boxes of most File menu commands, you will get help for
a topic other than the command you chose.

You can use the Search button in the help system to
     find the correct help message.

5. Additional features
     ===================

     Print capture for DOS applications
     ----------------------------------
If your DOS application does not allow you to print a
report to disk, you can use PRINCAP to create a file on
disk. PRINCAP stands for PRINt CAPture; it captures the
output destined for your printer. PRINCAP is included
with the release in the STYLER directory.

     To run PRINCAP:

           At DOS, type PRINCAP.

The program will load and get ready to capture
           your report.

     To use PRINCAP:

Print from your DOS application normally. Instead
of a report on your printer, you will get a file
           on disk containing the report.

You can either ask PRINCAP to generate file names
automatically for each report you capture, or you can
specify a particular name. By default, PRINCAP creates
numbered files in your default DOS directory.

     To control PRINCAP:

     1. Press ALT + P to pop up the PRINCAP control
           dialog.

     2. Press F1 for help.

     3. Press F3 to edit the file name.

To specify a particular file, type the path and
           file name.

To let PRINCAP create sequentially numbered file
names, type a path only (ending with a
           backslash: \)

If you specify no name or path, PRINCAP will
create numbered names in the default directory.

     4. PRINCAP closes the file when your application
stops sending characters for a few seconds. To
control the number of seconds, press + or -.

     5. Use F5 to change groups.

PRINCAP creates files of the form

           PCxnnnnn.TXT

Where "x" is any letter of the alphabet. By
default, that letter is "A." You can change the
letter by using the F5 key to advance to the
next letter. You can use groups for any purpose.
For example, you could have a different group
for each application, or for each day, or for
           each person.

     To remove PRINCAP from memory:

           At DOS, run PRINCAP again.

It will remove itself and tell you so.

     PRINCAP and Windows
     -------------------

You may run PRINCAP before you run Windows, or may
start it in a DOS window.

If you run PRINCAP before Windows:

It will be available in every DOS window you
           open.

It will take up memory in every DOS window.

It can capture output from a Windows application.
It will do so only if you uncheck Fast Printing
Direct to Port in the printer setup dialog of
the Printers control panel. Normally you will
           not want PRINCAP to capture Windows output;
therefore you should leave this checked if you
           load PRINCAP before Windows.

If you run it within a DOS window, it will be available
in that window only, will take up memory in that Window
only, and will not capture Windows output.

More about PRINCAP for advanced use
     -----------------------------------

You can change the way PRINCAP communicates with your
keyboard, memory, and disk by using command line
     switches:

/K Prompt the user for a new hot key to be used to
           activate PRINCAP

/Bxx Sets the size of the capture buffer in kilobytes.
PRINCAP captures text in a temporary memory
buffer before writing to disk. You can set the
size of the buffer to a value between 1 and 63.
           Default = 10k

/Dxx Sets the minimum number of kilobytes required
before dumping to the file will be attempted.
           Must be a value between 1 and 63. Default = 1k

/Ixx Sets the ID number used by the program. PRINCAP
chains into the multiplex interrupt 2Fh to allow
communication with the resident version. Must be
a hex value between 00 and FFh. Default = 93

6. MEMCHG Utility
     ==============

If you create reports that have many sections and
fields appearing on one styled page, you may see an
error message asking you to run the MEMCHG utility.

MEMCHG is a program that changes the amount of memory
Report Styler allows to hold objects like fields.

     To use MEMCHG:

     1. Run MEMCHG (installed in your STYLER directory).

     2. In the dialog that appears, choose STYLER.IMA in
           your STYLER directory.

     3. Change the DYNAMIC setting only. The default
value is 320. You can increase this. Try adding
           40. If testing shows that to be insufficient,
add another 40 until Report Styler works to your
           satisfaction.

     4. Press the Save Setting button.

     5. Close by choosing Close from the system menu (at
the upper left of the window) or by pressing
           Alt + F4.
