Sample files
============

All sample files are copied to the target directory.

All sample files were created with an HP LaserJet IIIP printer selected. All
text uses the fonts available with that printer. If you print these charts
using a different printer, the fonts may not map into optimal selections
on that printer, especially if the smaller fonts are not available.

You can change the typeface of all symbols in a chart at the same time with
the Symbol Text Fonts command (Tool Bar button with the single "F" in it).
Select all symbols (Symbol Select All), then click the "F" button. From the
font dialog, select a typeface name that you want. If you only change that,
all other font properties will remain unchanged. You can do this with any
group of selected symbols.

User's Manual Supplement
========================

INSTALLATION:

If the current shell is not the Program Manager, no attempt is made
to add the Chartist-2 icons and group. Also in that case, no association is
automatically set up with .CHT files. The user will have to set these
items up with whatever shell is being used.

Note: If you are running under Windows 3.1, the registration database
is checked, and updated if necessary, each time you run Chartist-2. This
takes care of File Manager associations and OLE server registration.

If the current shell is the Program Manager, and you are updating
Chartist from the distribution, no changes are made to the Program
Manager data. The files are simply updated from the distribution.

NEW FEATURES (Relative to v2.02):

1. Exclusive file use. Document files are kept open with the SHARE_EXCLUSIVE
option set. This means that multiple instances of Chartist cannot edit
the same document at the same time, if they are on shared paths, or if
SHARE.EXE is being run on the host machine. The Error Message "File Is
In Use." will be displayed in this curcumstance.

2. The printer dialog now has a scale factor setting, in percent. This
setting lets you enlarge or reduce the printed output by the specified
amount. Be sure to use TrueType or device scalable fonts in the chart
   to take advantage of this.

3. New command, Symbol Align To Grid (Ctrl+S). This command causes the
selected symbols to re-snap thier centers onto grid points. It is intended
for use after a group re-size (see below) if necessary. This command
operates without regard to the Options Snap To Grid setting.

4. Commands in the Symbol menu have been re-grouped into pop-ups to save
   vertical space in the menu.

5. The Edit Cut (Ctrl+X), Copy (Ctrl+C), Paste (Ctrl+V), Undelete (Ctrl+Z)
now use these accelerator keys per the Win 3.1 standard. The old keys
   still work.

6. Symbol Size (F6) now works on a selected group. The entire group is
re-sized (including inter-symbol distances) about its center. You must
activate this command for a group with the F6 key or menu command as there
are no stretch handles when a group is selected. After a group re-size,
use the Symbol Align To Grid if necessary to re-snap the symbols onto
   grid points.

Also, if you hold down the shift key while re-sizing one or more symbols,
the aspect ratio is maintained (only left to right movement of the mouse
   is used in this mode)

7. Hold down Ctrl+Shift while clicking inside selected symbols in a group
to toggle the selected state of those symbols (one at a time). This
allows you to remove symbols from a selected group.

8. The Symbol Text Font (Ctrl+F) or "F" button, lets you change font
properties for a selected group of symbols. The Symbol Text Enlarge
(Alt +, on numeric pad) or Reduce (Alt -, numeric pad) grow or shrink
all text in selected symbols by 2 points.

9. OLE client functions. On Win 3.1, symbols can contain linked or embedded
OLE objects in the Picture or Reference property. When an OLE object is
in the symbol picture, double-clicking on the symbol activates the
OLE primary verb for the object, rather than the Edit Text dialog
(you must use the menu command or F3 for Edit Text in this case).

10.You can select Line Add with the Tab key, a more convenient action for
right handed mouse users. The old Alt-Ins still works

11.Line Add Waypoint (Ctrl+Tab) is a new command that effectively puts a
draggable handle on a line, allowing you to manipulate its route by
selecting the inserted handle (which is a small Titl-Cent shape), and
dragging it. The old line is split into two segments.

12.Chartist-2 is also an OLE server. Selections from Chartist-2 documents can
be linked or embedded into OLE clients' documents. This function only
operates in Win 3.1 (or later). Refer to your other applications'
documentation for how to link or embedd objects.

13.Metafile pictures copied to the clipboard from Chartist are no longer
limited in size by the printer settings. The maximum size is now a
Windows imposed limit of 32.767 millimeters height and width. This limit
only effects the "original size" of the picture. The content is unaffected.

14.Errors loading non-existent printer drivers are no longer reported.
