		      ARCserve  V4.0
		      ================

	This readme file describes the use of PATCH31.NLM, PATCH311.NLM and
	CLIBP002.NLM. It also describes the known limitations of
	ARCserve V4.0.

	PATCHES
	=======

	Included with ARCserve V4.0 are three patch programs provided by
	Novell. PATCH31.NLM should be loaded on file servers which are
	running version 3.10 of NetWare. PATCH311.NLM should be loaded
	with version 3.11 of NetWare. These two patches correct problems
	with the CLIB.NLM shipped with NetWare. The third patch is
	CLIBP002.NLM which is a patch to PATCH311.NLM and is described below.

	PATCH31.NLM   (For NetWare 3.10 only)
	===========

	PATCH31 enables ARCserve to accomplish the previously unsupported
	operations:

	* Unattended Backup/Restore of remote 286 File Server's Hidden and
		System files including the Bindery and Trustees

	* Unattended access of remote 286 File Server Volumes
		other than SYS:

	* Archiving will now preserve Directory and File "Trustee Rights"

	PATCH311.NLM (For use with NetWare V3.11 only)
	============

	* Provides for recognition of AFP directories (MAC support)
		on volumes in addition to the SYS volume.

	* Will enable Name Space information to be maintained when an
		application logs out from a file server.

	* Provides ability for mkdir and rename to work with directories and
		files with extensions on remote 286 file servers.

	* Getting volume statistics function will now properly report the
		number of blocks available. This is important in determining
		the amount of available disk space when restoring or archiving
		to a file server.

	* Fixes the open call on remote portable NetWare server.

KQ * Extended file attributes can now be retrieved from a remote 286 file
		server.

  x      CLIBP002.NLM    (A Patch for Patch311.NLM only)
	============

	A third Novell Patch program is also included. This file called
	CLIBP002.NLM is a patch to the CLIB.NLM shipped with NetWare V3.11.
	This patch fixes a problem which caused the host server to abend
	when backing up a remote NetWare 2.x server. It must be loaded if
	you will be processing any NetWare 2.x servers.

	INSTALLATION PROCEDURE FOR ARCserve
	===================================

	The NLM's should be loaded in the following sequence:

	Load CLIB (CLIB will automatically load STREAMS).
	Load PATCH311  or   Load PATCH31
	Load CLIBP002 (Load only with PATCH311)
	Load TAPEDRV or TAPEDU (Use TAPEDU if you do not have tape support).
	Load ARCSERVE

	ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
	======================

	- When an ACTIVE job is deleted from the queue, ARCserve will have
		difficulty releasing resources through CLIB. It is
		recommended that ARCserve be deactivated in order to properly
		abort an active job.

	- The OS/2 extended file attributes will be preserved during a
		restore to an OS/2 workstation only.

	- Appending to tapes formatted with previous versions of ARCserve
		is not supported. Tapes from previous versions can be
		restored or reformatted.

	- OS2AGENT.EXE runs under NetWare Requester Version 1.3x for OS2.

	- In order to backup the following AppleTalk files, they must be made
		shareable. They may be found in the desktop.afp directory:

		appledata.afp
		icondata.afp
		iconindes.afp

	- In order to backup database files, which may be open during backup,
		they should be marked shareable. (i.e. *.btr files under
		Btrieve)

	- The NFS (Network File System) file audit.log cannot be backed up.
		The file svrjob.db can only be backed up if it is marked
		shareable.

	- User Space Restrictions on a remote 386 volume can be fully backed
		up. Due to a problem in the CLIB.NLM, however, approximately
		only 75% of the User Space Restrictions can be restored.

	ARCserve NLM COMMAND LINE ARGUMENTS
	===================================

	ARCserve NLM may be loaded with the following arguments:

		Load Arcserve <argument>

	NO_ESTIMATE - ARCserve usually counts the files and directories on
			targets before backup. This parameter disables the
			scan before backup.

	512 - this parameter changes the packet size to 512 bytes. This is
		supplied for unattended workstation jobs when the LAN driver
		does not support 1K packets.

	SILENT - this parameter turns off prompting when ARCserve encounters
			open files. This applies to the local server only.

	TAPE DRIVER NOTES
	=================

	- Upgrading from the HP 5.25" inch drive to the HP 3.5" drive will
		require an additional argument to be used when loading the
		tape driver in order to read tapes created with previous
		versions of ARCserve.

			Load tapedrv block = 2

	- Drive chaining is not currently supported on the NetFrame and
		3Com host adapters.

	- The Gigatrend MultiDAT will not initialize without a qualified
		tape in the drive.

	- For multiple device chaining, please note that termination is
		required at each end of the SCSI bus. Also note that the
		SCSI ID for each device must be unique.

	- Cheyenne Software, Inc. is in the process of certifying new
		tape drives and host adapters. Please call
		Cheyenne Software, Inc. for status at 516-484-5110

	NEW FEATURES
	============

	ARCBATCH.EXE - This is a program which enables users to submit script
		jobs from the command line and batch files. The scripts must
		be previously created through the job forms using ARCserve.

		It uses the following syntax:

  ARCBATCH /H=ServerName /Q=QueueName [Optional]   /S=ScriptName  /T=JobType

  JobType = 1:Server Backup, 2:WS Backup, 3:Server Archiving, 4:WS:Archiving

  Example:  ARCBATCH /H=ENG   /Q=CHEY_A_Q  /S=MY_SCRIPT  /T=1
